    Great TV

In my quest to find the best TV (at this day in time) I have finally settled on the Sony X900B. I've had the Samsung 8550 and the Sony X850B in the process and returned them both. I will give my opinions on each in order to ease the big decision to purchase such a high priced item. I did not include an LG TV because I was not considering one. I have one at home right now that's great (sans some flash lighting and lack of deep blacks) but I wanted to change it up. Sony X850B vs X900B These TVs are pretty much the same when it comes to the smart TV interface. The big differences are the speakers, Xtended Dynamic Range (X850B doesn't have it) and the Motion Flow (960 vs 240). The Xtended Dynamic Range really sets this TV apart from any other on the market. The blacks are deep and the whites are bright. It gives the picture a depth that I really couldn't achieve on the Samsung 8550. Even though the Samsung is a tad bit brighter and having them both at home side by side. You have to see them (without store settings) in person to compare them. This makes the X850B look washed out when they are compared no matter how much you tweak the settings. Dark scenes on the 850B got too dark where you couldn't see any separation, especially on a movie like the Dark Knight. It's completely different on the 900B. With the Motion Flow being higher, you get smoother frames when watching sports and movies/shows with lots of action/movement. It does make a difference. Now the speakers: THE BEST SPEAKERS EVER INSTALLED ON A TV...PERIOD. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than a separate sound bar or surround sound system but it could easily replace one that you may already have. They are loud and the bass is "there". Not as deep as a separate sub, but it's there when other TV's don't even try to go there. Yes the 950B is extra wide with them, but I like the look. As far as 1080P up-conversion, it really depends on the source. Garbage in garbage out. I know it does a great job on some channels when compared to others. HBO on Comcast probably shows the best where their HBO Family, not so great. Blu-ray plays great. No complaints overall. The only negative I can say about this TV is that the Wi-Fi does drop every once in a while. Never while I'm actually using it, but mainly after having it off for an extended amount of time. The only easy fix was to just go into the settings, turn Wi-Fi off, then on again. Works every time. One other thing was sometimes the apps crash but I've narrowed that down to the Amazon Prime app which is terrible. It's slow and hesitant. Even on the Samsung. When an app does crash, it's usually after I've been using the Amazon Prime app. Just turn the TV off and on again and it's good to go. 3D when compared to the Samsung 8550 is trash overall. Samsung trumps the Sony in this area, but I don't watch 3D at all so it didn't matter to me or change my decision. Samsung 8550 I really liked this TV. Overall quality is outstanding. It's bright and the images pop. Their Auto-Motion Plus works great and 4K video on Netflix/Amazon played with outstanding quality. The Wi-Fi speed and connection was fast and it never lost sync. The smart TV interface is the best there is and the capability to upgrade with the Evolution Kit ($300+) is a big plus. The only reason I returned it was because of the dreaded "dirty screen effect". There are a couple of videos on Youtube that you can play that will enable you to see it. The only thing with that is once you see it, you can't "un-see" it (so I would advise not to go looking for it if you're out of your return window); especially during football games, solid colored screens, any movie with snow or a clear shot at the sky. You can mainly see it when panning. It'll drive you crazy. In my case, I had a 5 inch wide vertical line on the left side of the screen and a slimmer on the right. Drove me insane. Overall the picture quality of the X900B was superior. A huge reason I settled for the Sony was because I found a "65 at BB, that someone had returned, and it was reduced to the same price as a new Samsung 65" 8550. It had all the accessories/books/remotes and no marks/scratches and came with a full warranty and return policy (45 days for Elite Plus). I don't know if I could have shelled out the full price ($800+ more) if I hadn't but I didn't so. When I saw it, I knew it was a great deal so I didn't even think about it. I had done my research and this is what I wanted. I was out the store in 5 minutes. That's a W-I-N. No brainer right?

We bought this TV after we returned a Samsung HU9000 (an excellent TV but just wouldn't fit our need) we bought this XBR-65X900 form BestBuy. What an amazing TV! The picture quality is phenomenal, the contrast spectacular and for those who do not have a good surround sound system this TV offers fabulous sound quality as well. If the goal is to watch everything in 3D there are other TV's out there that will do a better job but nothing beats this for the most incomparable picture quality, color contrast and sharpness. Without a doubt this is the best TV money can buy (money part of course within reason). And if that is not enough, the service by the salespeople at BestBuy and the installation by Geek Squad were truly exemplary. I will only buy these types of big ticket items locally because I can deal with them directly and the local business gets the most needed help. Win, win for all. If I could, I will gladly give more than 5 stars for this product and for my experience with BestBuy. Lest you wonder, I do not have any special relationship with this or any other retailer.

I've owned this TV for about 2 months now and after getting the picture and sound the way I wanted it, I am blown away. I'm still surprised by the picture each time I turn it on. The upscaling capabilities for cable input and bluray is awesome. The sound is also very good once I figured out where It needed to be. At first I was nervous the sound wasn't full enough, but it's all in the settings, this thing has great sound now. I'm also coming from a very nice LED 3D TV to this one, as well as having a nice surround system, and the picture and sound is still that good. Being able to get rid of the small theatre system speakers everywhere really cleaned up the look of things as well as remote input box that lets you run one wire to the TV. I got the wireless subwoofer and sony media player when I bought the TV and I couldn't ask for anything better. Oh, I almost forgot... The 3D is light years ahead of my previous model. It's clear and clean and I can actually sit through a whole movie and enjoy it without the headache. It is a wide and heavy TV but it was the exact same length as my mantle, so for me that worked out perfect. I really have no regrets with this purchase, and neither do any of my friends that wanna watch all the games and fights at my house now...lol

WE WERE IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE TV AS WE VIEWED IT ON DISPLAY IN THE STORE, AS WELL AS WITH THE FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER IN WHICH THE SALESMEN SHARED THEIR KNOWLEDGE WITH US AND ANSWERED OUR QUESTIONS. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE FROM BEGINNING TO END -- WHEN OUR TV WAS DELIVERED AND SET UP -- WENT VERY SMOOTHLY. BEST BUY GETS AN A+ FROM US AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO OUR FRIENDS. THANK YOU.

I had this TV delivered a week ago and after setting it up with the sub and media player, all I can say is WOW. The picture and sound are outstanding! Although this is one step below the flagship model, the picture quality is still outstanding. Don't believe those reviews that say you can't tell the difference unless you are up close. Just watching regular cable and non 4K Netflix, you can see the difference in picture quality. I've been watching a 50" Panasonic plasma since 2008 and this is the first set I can truly say that surpasses my plasma. I was thinking of waiting for the android TV versions but I found out that only the top of the line flagships will have the side speakers so when the price dropped, I decided it was time. Best Buy is also good because they price matched when the price went down again recently.

Deep black levels. Little to no clouding. Outstanding color. Best 4k upconversion. Wish it came in 70 inch version. I was not planning on purchasing a 4k set after returning the 70 inch x850 4k Sony model due to a bad panel. I had the store manager connect a bluray player to multiple sets (4k and 1080p) to see how they handle 1080p content since 4k content is not prevalent. The Sony 4k sets in general blew all other brands and models out of the water without calibration. The picture is stunning. I love this TV.

Make no mistake, this is a great 4K set hands down with some of the best speakers I've heard on a TV. With some (or a lot depending on preference) calibrating the picture on this set is stunning with accurate colors, tones and black levels when watching blu-rays, Netflix (streaming or from media players - Xbox One, Xbox 360 in my case) and gaming. The picture quality on gaming alone is pretty breathtaking. I have the 65" model, and beside the major caveat being the cost of the set, it's one of the consistently best-rated models on the market and performs well. Because I'm a bit of a videophile, my one complaint - nitpick, really - is since this TV is an edge-lit LED-LCD panel, I do notice along the left top and especially bottom corner there is more than enough edge-light bleeding than I would expect from this TV given it's cost. The right top and bottom corners of the set don't seem to experience as much. I have calibrated my TV using the Xbox One calibration option which, in my mind, is totally fine vs paying for professional calibration - if you know how to tweak the myriad of settings on this set, you'll be fine. I do have the GS protection plan on this, but am considering reaching out to Sony directly regarding the edge-light bleeding. Again, I understand this is natural, but even with the backlight and brightness turned down, seems like it shouldn't be as noticeable as it is. Personally, I find the issue to be more present when using the smart TV Netflix app vs watching Netflix on the Xbox One or Xbox 360. The color along the left side edge-lighting appears faded and almost greenish in tint when using the smart tv Netflix app. I'm hoping maybe the Sony experience support who reviews these comments can get in touch with me and discuss that issue further. That one main grip aside, this is an amazing 4K set and is defintely worth a look if you're in the market for a TV like this. Though, for the same price, albeit smaller screen size, you can get a 55" LG OLED... Which I may consider depening on how I feel about this edge-light bleeding. I've only had the TV for two weeks now, so still weighing my options.

The picture on this TV is incredible! HD TV shows now look so lifelike and almost give the appearance of being in 3D. We watched a 3D BlueRay film and the provided Active 3D glasses were very comfortable and did not strain the eyes at all. We are going to buy two more pair so our friends can watch with us. The sound is very good too. We got the subwoofer and the 4K Sony streaming media player for free as part of a Best Buy promotion and also earned a $75 gift certificate with the points received for the TV purchase. I would highly recommend this TV to anyone who is interested in 4K and great sound without having to buy a sound bar or who do not have a 5.1 setup already.

The Sony XBR-65X900B definitely exceeds my expectations. I researched many ultra high definition TV's and decided to go with this elite brand. The Sony TV does upscale all 1080 content to "near" 4K quality. The sound is awesome!!! I received the Sony wireless subwoofer as a promotion item for free, and it definitely accommodates the mid and high levels from the TV speakers. This TV also has the new H265 codec to allow streaming 4K content from Netflix (unlike last years Sony model X900a). My research paid off !!!! This TV is great!!!

Believe me when i tell you that Best Buy has the most knowledgeable customer sales representatives and the product presentation at the store was also the best . I went to the St. Matthews location of Best Buy in Louisville Kentucky. Keep up the Great work! I also totally recommend the Geek Squad!

The picture quality without a single adjustment coming straight out of the box is just fabulous! The look of the speakers on the side do not bother me like I thought they would. With the TV on, they simply look black and not noticeable. The sound is really good with the wireless sub. I do wish it could go louder than it does if you have it on max 100 for something special that you want to hear extra loud. Looking forward to 4K content.

SONY XBR-65X900B produces a fantastic picture. To compliment this, I added a SONOS soundbar and subwoofer which is fantastic as well. My only negative comment which is present with all the 4K models except LG's OLED, is that viewing angle decreases the visual acuity. That does not bother me since I sit in front of the TV and the LG OLED 4K 65" is $12,000!

We purchased the Sony XBR-6X900B to upgrade our 43" Pioneer Elite plasma TV. While we LOVED the Pioneer, it was a bit small for our room. The 65" really fills the wall and looks great but if I would have paid $5,000 for it when it first came out, I would have taken it back to the store after a couple of days. The unit we have was an "open box" but came with everything (including the box) and paid $2,700 which I feel was a good deal. Geek Squad delivered it and installed it along with a new Sony Blu-Ray player and a 4k "pass-thru" Dennon receiver and all of the upgraded cables/cords to go along with it to get the best picture/performance possible. After having GS at our house for about 6 hours, the remotes were finally turned over to me. WOW! At first, we were impressed but I think it was merely due to the overall size of this TV. With the speakers on the sides whether you like them or not, it truly makes a statement on the wall. The disappointments have everything to do with picture quality. Viewing angle makes a huge difference. Having to get used to this.. For being an upscaling 4K TV, our old Pioneer had a better picture on most programming. The motion-blur is way frustrating as this is the one "pet-peeve" of mine. Plasma: No Blur. LED: Blur. For slow panning, the picture is good but have any type of action movie or sports, no matter what setting I try, I can't make myself say "this was a great purchase". For colors, the TV is good. Very dark blacks and vibrant whites. One thing to note: if you are used to plasma TV's (like me), this Sony LED has side backlighting which means that each side of the screen will have a slightly lighter bar running top to bottom and is noticeable when watching a darker scene. With very limited (actually none in my area) 4K content being broadcasted, all i'm comparing my review on is HD and Blu-Ray... As I mentioned, the built in front facing speakers make a bold statement and probably sound great but we have a surround sound system so these are just for show. As one last attempt of convincing I'm happy with this TV, I'm having Geek Squad come out next week to calibrate the unit (using my Reward points) in hopes that something is corrected. If not, I think I'm going to exercise my 45 day return policy and look into OLED. I wish plasmas weren't going away... Side note: We also "upgraded" our cable/internet equipment to the Xfinity X1 platform which has created it's own level of frustrations. Comcast says all is good on their end so I'm hoping that the Geek Squad will find an issue with something that is causing the issue. If they do, I will update my review.

Geek Squad installation/delivery was essential. They got us up and running and set up our Logitech Harmony remote. We also opted for having wired connections run through the wall - a VERY good way to go. Installers explained system operation to me very patiently. We shopped this purchase HARD! We believe we got a terrific deal on a state-of -the art 4k TV. It looks and sounds GREAT.

We always love Sony TVs and have been buying Sony TVs for many years. This XBR900 has beautiful video/picture, especially with 4K or blue-ray contents, and relatively good UI (OK, not as good as iOS but significantly better than Samsung IMHO). The built-in speakers are decent for TV watching but can be better for action movie sound effects. Overall it has been an awesome TV for us.

I wanted a new TV that had both a great picture and decent built-in sound. This TV easily exceeded my expectations. The 4k scaler can make even DVD input look great and HD video is amazing. Using the "Cinema 1" setting gives realistic color tones and takes off the typical LCD coolness. The sound is really great. When used with the wireless subwoofer it gives good bass and clarity for all types of audio. Setup and calibration of the screen was easy and fast. The fact that the TV has two places to mount the feet on the bottom is great as this TV is pretty wide thanks to the speakers--if it didn't have the inner mounts it wouldn't fit on a lot of TV stands. The number of extras in the box is insane. Two remotes (one touch), two pairs of 3D glasses, a HDMI port replicator, mounting screws, a magnetic cover for the camera, and even cable clutter guards/clips. The built-in Netflix and Amazon apps work great with no issues. It has more functionality than I have tried (Playstation Now, etc.). It's also worth noting that this TV is currently (December 2014) noted as the "best TV" by thewirecutter.com, so all of the positive reviews you are seeing are not just self-delusion by people that spent ~$4k on a TV. It really is that good.

We have been really pleased with our new TV. The picture quality is wonderful and the sound is good too (without a sound bar). Our only complaint has been TV flickering at start up. It didn't do this when we bought it, but after software upgrades we have experienced this annoyance. After it "warms up" it is perfectly fine. Sony thinks it needs to be plugged directly into the wall outlet vs. through a surge protector...we'll see if that fixes our issue. Generally, I'd recommend the TV, but I think the price should come down ~25-30% from what we paid in the not so distant future!
