I initially went into my store for a 75 inch LG that was on sale, the associate talked me into this 65 sony as it was a far superior display. Well inside the store under all the lights and max brightness it looked great. Took it home mounted on the wall and..... wow, disappointment. Turns out the x850 is edge lit which means the blacks are washed out by the time the colors are right, and too dim when the blacks are right. The locally dimmed x900 was about 50% more and just couldn't be justified. Ended up bringing it back and exchanging it for a vizio p series 65 which is locally dimmed (100 zones vs sonys 60 zones on x900) We love the vizio, even though it still was not as good as my 10 year old plasma- we kept it on the wall after the 14 day period. I only give the sony an extra star because the interface was very smooth and responsive.

We purchased this on Dec 16th, 2018.. Very excited and Display was great. Fast forward less ths 3 months and the lower 1/4 portion of screen has 4 hard r/g/b lines after turning it on. Very, very upset at this point and no one is willing to own the defect. :( Troubleshooting involved a reset of the unit, power cycles, changed inputs, changed cables, by-passed receiver. We have original receipt but, still no help. Very disappointed and have never seen an issue like this with even the cheapest LED units.. Regretful..to say the least 1300.00$

After losing our beloved 65" LG to Hurricane Florence, I started my due diligence in reseaching a new telivision. I read all the reviews, watched all the videos and checked all the tech sites just to be more confused then when I started. I went to Bestbuy with the intention of just buying the tv with the best picture for the amount i wanted to spend. Truth was, all the TVs I looked at had great pictures, but something about this one jumped out at me. It seemed much clearer and more lifelike than the others. I had read several negative reviews about picture quality on this model but for the life of me couldn't tell why. Then the associate there at the store said something to me that made sense. " You can read all the reviews you want but it comes down to one thing.... Which one do you like looking at the most?" I had a Sony years ago and loved it so I took the plunge and got this one and I couldn't be happier. The picture was even better when I got it home and got it adjusted. The motion on it is super smooth the picture is brite and crystal clear and the colors really pop. Im thrilled with my purchase. Thank you Sony and Thanks for the help Bestbuy!!!

Far Superior to the 4-Series TCL it is Replacing

I had a 12 year old, 40-inch TV that I finally decided to replace during the Black Friday deals last year (2018). As a long time user and fan of the Roku device, I bought into the TCL hype and purchased the 55-inch, which had a great picture -- but the size seemed a bit disappointing considering I was hoping to make a significant leap. I upgraded to the 65-inch TCL, series 4. I do not have any issues with the picture quality of the TCL (and didn't have any significant banding issues that many seem to complain about); I had two other issues with it (the actual Roku applications themselves and the lack of Bluetooth). Best Buy had an *extremely* generous return policy -- I purchased the TCL a few days before Thanksgiving 2018 and ultimately was able to still return it in January 2019 -- so I gave the TCL a good run. It was decent, but pretty lacking. Enter this Sony TV. It was more than I was hoping to spend (it was almost an extra $400 after the return of the TCL), but, for something that I plan to use for a very long time (remember, the TV it is replacing was another Sony that was 12 years old, and still worked fine, but was just too small), it was definitely worth it. I kind of have the same "complaint" about the built-in Android apps on this one, but I feel they're superior to those found on the actual Roku TV (TCL). More likely, it's not an issue with the actual apps, but the processor in the TVs -- the Sony is far superior. But, I have my actual Roku device plugged into one of the four HDMI ports and use it, which is the epitome of UI/UX goodness. It's flawless. The other major complaint I had with the TCL was the lack of Bluetooth, or the inability to use Bluetooth headphones. I had a super long 3.5mm headphone cable which I was able to use with the TCL (Sony has the same input as well), but it was inconvenient to have to constantly be plugging the cable in at night, for night time listening, then unplugging at the end of the night (or leaving the kids or wife wondering why the sound on the TV wasn't working even though the volume was turned up). Now, with the Sony, I've convinced my wife to leave her Beats wireless headphones upstairs, instead of leaving them downstairs in the basement where she uses them on her treadmill. Pairing them was simple, and they work great (the trick to get them to automatically connect is to turn on the TV first, then turn on the headphones). It's pretty flawless. Additionally, and this is more of a recent discovery, so I can't say it's absolutely working (but it seems to be, at least a little), but it was always a big complaint of ours that the volume of a TV show was at one level, then commercials almost always sounded so much louder). Or, the volume when using the gaming system was set at 25, but the normal listening volume of a TV show would be half that. I Googled and found an article that had recommended audio settings. I only tried one of them -- the one that made the most sense -- and it really seems to help. Sound Settings > Advanced Settings > Input Sound Settings I don't think it's affected the excessive volume when it comes to commercials vs tv show, but a bit. Or maybe it's just a psychological difference, as I expect the difference to not be so great -- and since everything else about this TV has met/exceeded my expectations, I just assume this other issue is "fixed" by this TV as well. The improvement this TV offers over the TCL (at an increased price, mind you) is significant, and it may not be limited to just this model, but I am extremely glad I made the switch. This TV definitely receives a 5-star rating from me.

I like every thing about this television except the remote. I'm not an expert in high definition but this TV has a great picture and color rendering. It was easy to set up and has controls that are easy to use. The problem with the remote is that there are controls right next to the direction buttons. This makes it easy to activate something by accidentally touching a button when trying to use the arrow buttons to navigate.

We have a three year old 55” Sony tv. Comparing this 65” to the 55” the colors are more rich looking and the sound on this tv is great. We set about 24’ away from the tv therefore the 65” makes it a lot easier see and I can actually read the small print that appears sometimes. I would recommend this tv for the medium price range. I’m sure there are better tv’s but for the size and price range I believe this one is is one of the best.

This TV is great. Fantastic picture! Although getting 4K programming is not an easy task at present, when you can watch this TV in 4K, the picture is breathtaking. The up-converting does a decent job with HD 1080P signals, but does not compare to true UHD or 4K programming. The only issues I have run into are updating software and the remote control. When trying to complete the software update for the TV, it presents an error screen that has not changed with two months of use. Therefore, I'm still on original TV software. The only complaint I have is the remote control for the TV has the directional arrows for functions too close to the command buttons. This results in causing you to have to start all over when your in the middle of selecting what you want to do. Beyond that, the TV is great. Functionality of menus and WiFi hookup is easy. There are lots of options for programming within the applications and programming functions that come with original home menu. I'm a big believer in Sony quality and this TV is not an exception. So far I am very happy with this purchase.

Exceptional viewing experience!!! Easy to use, many features above and beyond what we have had in the past. The apps are easy to use and it switches between items like the blue ray and cable automatically when you put the disc in or turn the player off. The picture quality is unbelievable, we like it better than some of the higher priced ones!!!!

We just purchased the 65" Sony X850F television and have been totally happy with the purchase so far. The picture quality is far superior than I had expected and the features that come with the TV are excellent. The setup took just minutes to complete and everything connected quickly without having any extra work.

We are really enjoying this TV. I admit, I was apprehensive in setting it up but it was easy. I wish I remembered what we did since one reviewer seems to have had a hard time but as far as I recall, we just turned it on and followed instructions. We were able to hook it up to our internet and get the remote to work. Since we currently have satellite TV, we had to get the new TV to interact with our DISH service but we got through that without needing to call DISH. The DISH remote works on the new TV as well as the Sony remote. Sometimes I have to re-sync the Sony remote to the TV but I think that's because of using the DISH remote as well (which we seem to need to access our DVR shows saved on the DISH box). Now for the picture. I think the picture is startlingly clear, crisp and vibrant. Our living room is not huge but we do have seating to the side of the TV and when I sat on a side seat and looked at the TV I was amazed at how great the picture was from the side - just as good as if we were looking straight at the TV. We did not need to adjust the picture a great deal to get a setting we liked either. As with most big screens, the sound of the TV isn't booming and that's why we got a sound bar to go with the TV. We figured that with something this nice, we'd want the extra sound as well. While it's not necessary it is a bonus that we're glad we got. I have no regrets on getting a TV in this series, even though there's a newer model. We got a black Friday deal on this (vs the 900 series) and I can't imagine why we'd have needed a model in the higher series given how happy we are with this one.

I did a good amount of research before bying this TV. And my last minute motivation was the Cyber Monday promotion (shy of U$1,000). I took a long time to upgrade and got rid of a 60" DLP Mitsubishi, which worked great for more than a decade. Of course comparing the old to this new TV is not fair but I believe it is really great for the price. In my opinion: The good: - picture quality on HD sources. - For a LED TV has a good view angle. At least on my small/medium room. Despite some review I read - I am ok with the level of blacks and haven't noticed any defect or shadows. Of course the black are not extremely black but again you need to be really picky and for the price no complains. - Built quality and how easy was to set the hardware up myself. For me this is where Sony shines. - Enough inputs. Although I would like to see an old video input for my really old sony camera. - You can program the picture quality by input. That is interesting. Not sure how it works for competitors TV's but I believe this is very useful if you have a game console and DVD or stream device in other inputs for example. In my old TV you would have to re-calibrate at every different usage. The not so good: - There is zero documentation besides how to un-box and basic connections. - For me, the picture quality out of the box were not ideal. In fact I was really disappointed. But after surfing the web I found an online video that went through step by step what you should do. Life saver. Now I can see how great the PQ is. - Android smart TV is not straight forward as it is on Apple TV or Roku for example. Again, plan to be looking for online videos on how to manage it. - Excellent quality in 4K and 2K. But If you have any source below that, things start to get really pixelated. 720K is kind of ok, but I have some channels (OTA) coming in 480 and it is a real pain to watch them. No opinion: - I have not tested the sound. I have my devices connected to a AV receiver so I never use the TV sound.

I bought this after considering several different tv’s. The picture is out of this world! The upscale processor is amazing! My cable provider’s video output is only 720p but with this tv it looks almost as good as native 4K. Netflix 4K programming looks amazing! Even the shows only offered in 1080p on Netflix look almost as good as native 4K. This is the first tv I have owned with a native 120hz refresh rate. No motion blur. Action scenes and live football look as smooth as I’ve ever seen. I’m debating hooking up my Xbox One X to this tv, I’m sure it would look amazing, but I play Xbox in a different room in my house, on a 4K Sony tv I bought a couple years ago. That tv is also amazing, which is a 55”, but this new 65” blows my other Sony tv out of the water. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

I bought this tv as an open box display product. They were just about to mount the new top of the line tv and it had to go. Also it might have had a missing remote or legs to stand it upright, but I didn't care because I was going to mount this TV and remotes are cheap on Ebay. Luckily everything came in the box anyways and I added the extended warranty just in case since it was the display model. I've had it for over a year now and it's still running great. The display is really nice including on dark scenes which was my biggest gripe on a vizio I had and a TCL. Speaker quality is good, and the android TV os works really well. I just wish the remote had a keyboard for easier searches. Google home is built in but sometimes It doesn't understand what you are asking for.

Heard Sony TV so many good thing, and got this X850F under $1,000 which is a good deal. But after set it complete, it is a bit disappointing. First of all, the TV is leaning back, you can see in the picture the top of TV lean back about 1 inch than the bottom. I check SONY website review, saying a lot of TV have same issue. So it is not the TV base problem. It is the way how base supporting the TV. It is a design default. Of cause if you mount it on a wall. No issue. Second, when you try to initiate any apps like youtube or other popular apps, the responding time is kind slow, I guess the processor in this TV is using a slow one. Third, the commercial of this TV shows the function that compatible with google home, which you can use voice control the google home speaker to control your tv. Isn't it cool? But in reality, the google assistant function is not good with this TV, many times when you give order through google home, the TV is no response. Only 50% chance the TV respond from google home speaker. Well if you only use the TV remote control, it works fine even with the google assistant, but once you are using google home system, it is a bit disappointing. I returned this one to Best Buy and pay the same amount to get a Samsung TV, hopefully the Samsung works for me.

Was looking for a 75" but was out of stock everywhere. This was on sale for Black Friday. Limited 4K content makes it fairly useless to buy a 4K TV ... but I was trying to look ahead. Sony usually makes good quality products and so far, this one seems to fit the bill. Pros: It's 4K and a good size for an average family room Cons: Limited availability of 4K content, Setup is full of things that take a while to figure out, the remote is overkill with Netflix and Google play buttons neither of which I use, speakers are useless so you will need to invest in a good quality surround system, picture is good, but I have started to notice flicker in motion and UHD doesn't really make it better to watch HD content. Overall, I wish I hadn't purchased this TV and waited for what I wanted to come back in stock.
