You should not buy this product if: 1) You dont have a widescreen monitor 24+inches attached through DVI or HDMI to your computer. VGA is not enough to fully enjoy HD movies which have much more lines of resolution. Full HD refers 1920x1080 lines of resolution, something you wont find on anything less than 24 inch screens. Smaller screens will work for playback, but your still not getting everything you should with HD. 2)You dont have a video card or software compatible with HDDVD and BLURAY playback. All but intel's newest 965 and 3000 model integrated graphic solutions will not support it. ATI cards below the 9000 series will not support it, same with NVidia below the 6000 series. I've heard the 5200 might but i have never tried it. The NVidia 6150 was the first integrated solution to support it. 3)You dont own an HDTV with a BLURAY player, a BLURAY drive, or PS3. 4)You dont have the cash to cover necessary upgrades to get the full HD experience. If so than proceed with the purchase because this is a great drive. Relatively easy to install and operate if you know what your doing, and if not just have geek squad put it in

    Not Good

I was very excited about purchasing this product for burning large amounts of data on 1 disk instead of multiple disks. From the beginning, it did not work correctly, as there were multiple write errors. Went through many disks until gave up and returned the item. Great concept product, but I wouldn't trust this Sony product to deliver in the future.

Not Perfect But It's A Start

This is in my opinion is a great product. I can burn a 25 GB discs in about 45 minutes (which is about how long it took with my first DVD writer). Although it's still quite expensive, it does its job quite well. Commercial BD Roms require PowerDVD Ultra and will play just about all current BD Movies.

Had this burner for 14-months to the day when it quit working. Pioneer and Lacie make much better models. SOny only makes good cameras, forget anything else.
