without doing a heads up comparison which you can do for yourself for all cameras in this price range I will say what sealed it for me between the T3i, a57, and D3200 was the ability to shoot 1080p video w/sound. I said lens quality could be better because the lens lockup ring is plastic, all my old Minolta mounts are metal. I have an older Minolta Maxxim 35mm and all the lenses are compatible, and work very well. Without handling the other cameras I would imagine they all do things pretty much the same as for as shooting modes and customization. One thing I do like is if I am using the lcd screen and want to look thru the eyepiece it detects my eye and automatically switches. Battery life seems good and picture quality is very good.

I am loving this camera. It is a big step up from my old A33. Love the photo quality and I really love the new features. One thing I really love is the bigger battery. I get more shots than I did with the smaller battery of the A33. The clear zoom is a great feature takes really clear pics.

I have had this SlR for 1 week now and I cannot put it down it's so nice having a very nice camera. I had a Olympus point and shoot before and now since I got this thing my pictures look like a real pro shot them. I do wish it had better low light shooting but so far it's great and me and the wife love it and we are very happy we bought this SLR instead of the Nikkon D 5100 or D 5200 we 1st looked into getting. If you buy this camera you will love it!!!

Love the camera. Photos are very high quality and with the availability of older minolta lenses that you can get for a lot cheaper than the newer lenses it gives you a cheaper entry into dslr technology. I would buy another if I ever need one. Love the features on the a57. For the features and price you cant beat this camera.

I purchased this camera because I have children who play sports (soccer and basketball) and I was tired of taking blurry pictures of them! This camera solves that problem. I am still trying to learn how to take quick manual pictures during a sports games, but the automatic settings are very impressive. Most shots I take are clear and focused on the correct person / object I am trying to shoot. I have a 32GB SDHC Class 10 card with a 30 m/s transfer rate so I don't have to worry about taking too many pictures. I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone upgrading to a DSLR camera.

Image Stabilizer Introduces Wobble in Video

I bought this mainly based on the reviews I saw on YouTube and written reviews by Camera/Gadget websites and blogs. The main purpose of this camera was to get a video shooter with DSLR photo capabilities when needed.
Photo capabilities, this camera has all the features other SLR's in its class offer but in addition has Image Stabilization built in. Shots taken in low light are easily hand held. However being able to focus in low light may take some time to hunt for the subject you're looking for.
Video capabilities, this camera's main selling point was because of its built in sensor based image stabilization. The IS introduces extra "wobble" in video when the camera is jerked or moved "quickly". So it is able to compensate but you get the feeling "something's changed in the matrix" or something out of a covert spy movie when they hack into the security system and the camera's blur for just a second as they take over.
I dont like the proprietary hot-shoe. One must by an adapter to use a standard size hot-shoe accessory AKA external microphone.
I dont like that you can hear the lens auto-focus in video if you're using the on-board microphone.
Overall I haven't found any other features that truly stand out aside from the compromises one makes in the features that set it apart.

A good crossover from Minolta SLR.

As Sony had purchased Minolta's camera line and continued the Alpha line, the Sony appealed to me through a combination of price, functionality and acceptance of my previously owned lenses. The A57's controls are well laid out and so, the use of the various mode choices are rather intuitive and easily selected.
As I'm still learning the A57, the only concern that I've found to date is that the current use of plastic in the camera body construction, rather than the metal of my former camera, and the location of the large viewscreen on the body's rear, both seem to demand extreme caution to protect them from incidental contact damage.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the design and performance of this camera and I would certainly recommend it to all.
