Spacious sound for a smaller space

I've used several different soundbars on my bedroom and family room systems. All with varying results as far as sound quality. Using the Sony Bravia Theater Bar 6 has taken the the sound in my bedroom to a new level entirely.
This is an almost perfect soundbar for a bedroom or office, some place you don’t have the extra space or need true discrete 5.1 theater sound. I replaced a twelve-year-old soundbar in our bedroom with this guy and it’s been quite a noticeable improvement. We have soundbar systems and full-blown theater systems all over the house and this one not only fits perfectly but sounds great in a smaller room.
To be clear, this is a true 3.1.2 system. The soundbar itself has a dedicated center channel driver with dedicated left and right main drivers. On the top, it also has two up firing dedicated speakers. It also includes a substantial wireless sub-woofer. I was a bit skeptical before powering everything up, but after listening to the overall sound, I quickly changed my mind. The word that comes to mind when describing the sound is, spacious. The sound truly does fill the room. The sub-woofer is large enough to pack a significant punch without sounding strained or thin on the explosive parts.
While you can set the system up without any trouble just by connecting it to an HDMI with eARC port, the downloadable companion Bravia Connect app will get you up and running quickly while allowing you to fine tune things like speaker to listener distance settings, which help to get the sound dialed in for where you will be listening from. The included remote (and app) has buttons for power, input (don’t get too excited, it’s either the HDMI input or Bluetooth), bass level, mute, sound field, etc.. The sound field button turns this mode either on or off. I would have liked to have seen a couple of other sound mode options here. I kept it on as it sounds the best for my room.
It's probably difficult to make a soundbar an attractive component, they all do pretty much the same thing, but this one is not unattractive, and since it’s deeper than most because it also accommodates the up-firing speakers, it has an interesting look to it. The sub-woofer looks the part by being sizable and sporting a perforated grill assembly along with a front port. You get an HDMI cable, power cords for both the soundbar and sub, the remote and batteries. So, you get everything you need right in the box. I found the power cables to be quite short (at least which ever one you choose for the soundbar), you may even need an extension cord for it. It has the capability to be wall mounted if you choose, but this seems to be an after thought on Sony’s part, because that just means it has a couple of keyed screw holes on the rear plastic panel, which are small and a bit sketchy looking and don’t really convey confidence that it’s going to hold for long.
Overall, I like the sound and the size of this bar. It fills the room with sound that seems to come from more places than just the center. The bass is good, but I did wish it went just a bit louder at times. At no time could I turn it up loud enough for it to be overwhelming or too loud (still referring to the sub-woofer here). The rest of the speakers seem clear and full ranged, and all coordinated well with each other. I appreciated the easy setup, and the companion app adds some fine-tuning abilities that help to make the system sound it’s best. I do like Sony sound systems, and I have a variety of them, so I’m used to the price that they cost. I’m not sure everyone would agree that the cost of this system is worth it, but I believe it to be a fair price for a good sounding system like this.

Sound Improvement

This soundbar delivers an immersive experience from a small form factor that would work well in a small to midsize room used for watching TV and movies or gaming. It’s simple to install but it does require the Bravia Connect app to fully configurate the virtual sound stage settings in the soundbar. The downside is that it lacks physical control buttons on the soundbar and the led indicators aren’t the most intuitive.
Overall this soundbar provides good sound quality considering its size. The immersive sound stage is impressive for a 3.1 system and is definitely an improvement over the typical TV speakers. The soundbar produces good mids and highs that sound clear and sharp whether you are watching a movie, playing a game or listening to music. The subwoofer is matched well with the soundbar and it provides deep enough bass to make the overall sound more realistic. It won’t rattle your windows but it does a good job of providing enough umph without too much distortion. The center speaker allows you to hear conversations clearly and there is a Voice setting on the remote that will enhance the dialogue. Sony includes a remote control to control the soundbar or you can use your Bravia TV or the Bravia Connect app on your phone or ipad. The only downsides I have with this soundbar is that it lacks an indicator display and control buttons. There is a single LED that shows blue or white or red depending on the connectivity status and a second LED that blinks when a function like volume is pressed on the remote control. So you don’t see an indicator that shows the actual volume or subwoofer levels on the soundbar, to get that you need to use your phone and Bravia Connect app or your Bravia TV screen. Secondly, the only control on the soundbar is the on/off button. It doesn’t have an input control button or a volume control button so you have to use the remote or mobile app.
Installing this soundbar was simple because the Bravia Connect app walks you through the necessary set up functions and the soundbar automatically pairs with the subwoofer. The app verifies that the HDMI cable is properly cabled to the right ports in your tv to help eliminate any audio issues. The soundbar supports HDMI eARC but also has an optical cable port for using an optical cable. Connecting with Bluetooth was just as easy, once I set the soundbar input to Bluetooth via the remote it readily paired with my iphone. In the Bravia Connect app you set the distances from the soundbar to the couch and soundbar to the ceiling to help configure the immersive sound stage.

I have to admit I’m in love with the Sony Bravia Theater Bar 6. I upgraded from an aging, but still good, Samsung soundbar that was nearing 8 years old. While I was satisfied with the Samsung soundbar, the Sony Bravia Theater 6 quite frankly blew my socks off and made me wonder what I was missing. While it will never - nor will any soundbar - equal a dedicated, multi-speaker setup, this gets pretty darn close. And the ease of installation is just the icing on the cake.
IN THE BOX
Inside you’ll find the soundbar, the subwoofer, two power cables (one for each, they’re interchangeable), a HDMI cable (thank you Sony for continuing to provide essentials), a remote, and some footers that allows you to put the soundbar on the TV stand (mine’s on the wall, so I didn’t pay much attention to that).
I found the soundbar to be quite compact, light and small. But I’m comparing it to my old Samsung soundbar that a tiny subwoofer built into it (it was as as long as a 65 inch TV and pretty heavy).
SETUP AND INSTALLATION
It’s simple. You plug in the power cord to both the subwoofer, and then for the soundbar, and then you plug the HDMI cable into the soundbar and into the TV. IMPORTANT TO NOTE, you must have a TV with eARC HDMI port. Otherwise, it will not work. Granted, most new TVs have it, so it shouldn’t be a problem, but something to look into before dropping a lot of money on this soundbar and subwoofer.
At that point you’ll want to download the Bravia app (although I’m not 100% certain it’s required, but that was the instructions on the box). When you open the Bravia app, you’ll turn on some permissions and then your phone will find the soundbar and subwoofer and make sure the HDMI is working and the sub is paired. It took just a few moments. Then you’re asked some questions about placement of the subwoofer and soundbar (i.e. when sitting, are you less than 5 feet away or further?). The app allows you to control the volume and the bass level, but little else. It’s where you would change the input to Bluetooth (to stream music from your phone). Which is a little annoying, I would have preferred a button or something like that on the device itself.
But after that was all done, my soundbar was rocking. I use a Google TV plugged into one of the HDMI ports in my TV and I use that Google remote to control my TV’s power and volume. Everything worked flawlessly. I was stoked at how easy it was, and I hope everyone else would have the same experience (candidly, I’ve had issues with other soundbars and eARC inputs on my TV. But I will admit the TV I was plugging this soundbar into is a Sony TV, however, it’s about 10 years old).
SOUND QUALITY
What immediately struck me was the clarity of dialogue in TV shows and movies. I didn’t really have a hard time hearing it with my prior soundbar, but it was just so much more clear. It works especially well in complex sound environments, where the dialogue comes out crystal clear even when there’s a lot of other ambient sounds going on at the same time. I will note that if you have a newer Bravia Sony TV, you can utilize Acoustic Center Sync, whereby the TV’s speakers act as a center channel to enhance dialogue. But my Sony TV was too old to test that out.
Obviously the star of the show is Dolby Atmos and the simulated surround. Again, as I said earlier, NO sound bar will replace a dedicated 5.1 or 7.1 setup. But so long as you have minimal obstructions in your room, this soundbar does a great job at firing sounds off walls and ceilings to simulate surround sound. You won’t be spooked into hearing footsteps behind you, but the effects are nonetheless impressive. It’s not pinpoint accurate, but you definitely get the feeling of sound “around you.”
The bass is very robust. I love that the speaker is wireless, and I found it very satisfying in heavy action sequences- especially explosions. The subwoofer combined with the simulated surround really enhances the viewing experience.
Playing music was great, I like playing loud music when my family’s not home and this setup can rock the house. It provides a very balanced profile and nothing I played was distorted in any way. It’s more than adequate.
MISC.
There are some sound modes that you can adjust within the app. But it’s very minimal, such as music, movies, or night voice. The night voice made things a little softer so as not to shake and rattle your whole house while the kids were asleep. But it was too much of a pain to open the app so I prefer to do what us parents always do at night, and that’s simply turn the volume down a little bit at night.
CONCLUSION
This is expensive and may not be worth it if you already have a soundbar, but if you are just listening to your TV speakers, this is a must have upgrade. You can get really good surround sound quality audio with simple setup. While it works best with Sony Bravia TVs, you should still give it a look even if you own a different brand TV. The Atmos technology in soundbars is no joke and will vastly increase your listening and entertainment experience.

Captivating Sound for Your Home Theatre

The Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 6 is a home audio system with a sound bar and subwoofer. The pair provides an immersive sound that will captivate you and everyone around you. If you are looking to build out a home theatre, this system is a great starting point. Although there are some downsides… Note that this was tested in a midsize living room. This is my review of the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 6.
*TLDR at the bottom
=========================
IN-THE-BOX/SETUP:
In the box, you will get a soundbar, a subwoofer, a power cord, an HDMI cable, a remote control, and some documentation. The remote control’s batteries are also included.
The Bravia Connect app will need to be downloaded to properly set up your system. A QR code on the included pamphlet can be scanned to obtain the app. Setup took me a little less than 15 minutes. Sony’s included documentation is helpful, and the app does a great job of explaining the additional items needed to complete the setup. The setup process within the app has certainly improved compared to the last time I set up a BRAVIA product. Kudos to Sony! Once the setup is finished, one can immerse oneself in admirable sound.
=========================
SOUND QUALITY (MOVIES, VIDEOS):
One of the first things I did after setting up was, of course, watch various trailers and a film. The out-of-box sound is fine by default, but you will notice the lack of surround sound, which makes sense due to the lack of rear speakers. Sony did think of this problem, and surround sound can be “experienced” by turning on Sound Field mode using the remote. This mode, while it does not provide a true surround sound, Sony’s digital sound field processing technology does a great job at providing a more immersive experience with this mode turned on. The sound is louder, and the system makes you feel that there is a wider soundstage. With Sound Field turned on and the booming sound from the subwoofer, trailers, movies, and videos all sound amazing. This was especially prevalent in the new How to Train Your Dragon live-action trailer when The Red Death comes thundering in. Are you wanting a movie night but don’t want to wake up the wife or the kids? I was able to watch the film 65 in Night Mode, which does an excellent job at reducing the highs, such as gun shots and explosions. Night mode also decreases the rumbling lows, and with voice mode turned on, one can hear dialogue crystal clear.
=========================
SOUND QUALITY (MUSIC):
This system also has Bluetooth, which I used to jam out to some tunes. My home theatre is in my living room, and occasionally I do use my home audio system to listen to music. I was able to listen to a variety of genres, and all sound great. I did find that turning on Sound Field mode and increasing the bass slightly does enhance the listening experience. One item I did notice was that the sound is balanced for the most part. Some genres did have a slightly imbalanced sound. For example, the lows and mids are more prominent in Hip-Hop and EDM music. Mids are higher in Punk music. But genres like Rock, Latin, and Pop are fairly balanced. Now, when it comes to older music, some older music has that static/hissing sound. While playing around in the settings, I found something called DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), which enhances and clears older music or compressed audio files. I enabled this feature while playing The Platters’ - Only You and TV on the Radio’s - Wolf Like Me. The difference is slight, but these songs certainly sound clearer.
=========================
FEATURES/OTHER NOTES:
Below are some of the speakers' features in detail, and other additional features I have yet to mention.
- The theatre bar supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
- The system can be controlled with either the remote or the Bravia Connect app
- The Bravia Connect app can be used to update the Theatre Bar 6(firmware updates)
- 3 Sound modes available to choose from (No EQ available, unfortunately)
- Night Mode: For late-night TV watching, reduces the highs (guns, explosions) and lowers the bass level
- Sound Field Mode: Simulates surround sound and creates a wider soundstage
- Voice Mode: Increases dialogue range, great for the hearing impaired or those films with imbalanced sounds
- Built-in Bluetooth has little to no latency
- DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) enhances older music and compressed audio files if turned on in the app
I also have some notes to add about the speaker that I could not add above. A light indicator on the sound bar indicates when a setting is changed. While it is helpful to know that the sound bar received input, the light indicator does not tell you what setting the sound bar is on. You will either need to guess or look in the app to see the sound bar’s current settings. This is a minor complaint and more of a request, but the remote is not backlit. I watch most films in a dark room, and not being able to see the controls is a bit of a nuisance. Finally, if you are looking to upgrade or add an additional speaker to this setup, unfortunately, this system is standalone, and no other Sony product is supported.
=========================
CONCLUSION/TLDR:
Overall, this is a great home audio system. If you haven’t used a home audio system and are looking to add one to your home theatre setup, this is a great starting point. The sound bar and the addition of a subwoofer provide a full cinematic experience, as you will hear everything from the dialogue to the rumbling of a spaceship. Now, if you are looking for a home audio system with upgradability in mind, I cannot recommend this one as it does not support additional speakers. This is a great system for those who are starting out and upgrading from TV audio and have no plans to upgrade the system down the line. The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 6 does an excellent job with movies, videos, and music. Just tweak a couple of settings in the app, and the system will provide a captivating sound. If you are looking for a good start with a great home audio system, I wholeheartedly recommend you try this one out!

Added this to my new 98 inch TCL and it makes for a stunning home theater experience. Even my wife loves the sound and she can be sensitive to that at times. Easy to set up and control the sound and subwoofer. Black color blends in with the tv. Price on the "open box" was incredible. Adam at Best Buy was awesome in helping me out, showing me several different models I was interested in and letting me hear the difference. This was a no-brainer choice and we're thrilled with it.

I currently have 4 full surround setup in my home (Family Room, Outside, Master Bedroom and Master Bath). Im's either going to change the soundbar in my living room (Sony TV) to a Dolby Atmos setup or upgrade/replace my Master Bedroom system (LG TV). But if I can get my wife's approval I'd rather upgrade the living room. I'm testing the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 6; 3.1.2ch subwoofer, Dolby Atmos/DTS:X System. The system consists of a Soundbar and a Subwoofer. The soundbar has 2 upward facing speakers on each end. They support Dolby Atmos & DTS:X. First I have to convince myself that I like the sound of these speakers, that they are loud enough for the room (16x24 but open to the kitchen/dining area). When I got this system I thought that they could be "upgraded to Atmos 5.1.2" speakers with the addition of a pair of rear speakers (I was wrong; Sony offers a Theater Bar 6 5.1.2 system which includes wireless speakers, but they can't be bought separately. I have other Atmos systems and I love their surround quality.
The soundbar is on the wide side, It's about a foot longer than the B*** soundbar it might replace. But for improved separation this should be expected The subwoofer, is also on the large side, at least 50 taller then the B*** it's replacing. So I'm expecting deeper bass, (which spoiler) it does have deeper, fuller bass then the B*** does. And for me the subs size is not an issue, it's quality is more important.
I set up the system using Sony's BRAVIA Connect App. This app connects with Bluetooth, it can also change the speaker to connect to BT sources. The soundbar only supports BT, no casting or ApplePlay. The app does not have any room tuning capabilities that I've come to expect with the Atmos setup that I have elsewhere. It also does not indicate what version of BT it supports. Setup and configuration was very straightforward, no issues. The app is pretty simple with quite limited options. The system does not support Google Home, Alexa or Apple home (all of which I use with my home automation system).
I'll start by saying this Bar 6 system is darn efficient (read: loud). To just evaluate the sound quality I streamed Boston's first album. 'More than a Feeling', sounded very airy, the high's bounced around the room effortlessly, the Atmos surround speakers creating a nice soundstage, but it lacked some separation. The bass was very tight (room filling, but not chest thumping), the bass complemented the rich high's. The mid's were rich and the vocals were exceptional. As Boston's 'Foreplay' switched to 'Long Time', and the rhythm picked up, the speakers sounded very sweet, excellent to listen to, and excellent sound details. Except for some separation and surround effects, they approached the quality of my family room system (6x the $s). In fact the horn section brought a bit of a smile to my face, so realistic. I was very impressed with high's and low's as they were much better than my existing B*** soundbar. I then listened to Pink Floyd's Animals, 'Dogs' had a richness and overall smoothness throughout. The high's in Pigs were most excellent. I then listened/watched to the new Top Gun in 4k, I set the surround to 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos (no 3.2.1 setting), but the quality of the sound still rocked the room, not chest thumping, just a little rumbling, and the center vocals were better than I expected. But rear surround speakers would have improved the surround experience, as would have more stereo separation.
All and all I'm quite impressed. I'm still convinced that seperate speakers still blow away what you can get out of a soundbar. If I don't use this system in my living room they will replace some older (planar) speakers in my master bedroom. I wish I could easily add rear surround speakers, that would be a big step up to my bedroom system (My wife and I both watch movies and baseball games there frequently). This soundbar has very rich voice qualities and is overall a punchy speaker system. A very full rich sound, and quite efficient. Easily filling my great room with high quality sound, certainly a step up from my B*** system that supports DTS, but not Atmos. The quality from 4K movies was very good. I wish it had some sort of home automation built in.

This Sony Bravia theater system is an amazing compliment to my existing Bravia T.V. I’ve swapped out several soundbars on this T.V. and so far I am most happy with this setup. This particular set is replacing a stand-alone soundbar with a price tag higher than this combo, and I’m quickly realizing the benefits of having a subwoofer to accompany your soundbar.
Sound wise, my old soundbar actually sounds better than the Bravia soundbar, but once you add the subwoofer, I find this setup to be much more impressive. This combo does a good job at creating a multi-dimensional sound, but again, it doesn’t throw the sound around the room as well as some other bars I’ve used. The subwoofer, however, produces a very clean, rich bass that really compliments the soundbar.
The settings allow you to crank up the bass, which can be pretty impressive if you play just the right thing. The app lets you to easily toggle between Bluetooth and HDMI mode, so you can stream music from your phone. I like this type of setup because I don’t have to worry about accidentally connecting to my speaker via Bluetooth.
The soundbar is longer than I was expecting, and visually compliments my Bravia better than my last soundbar. My Bravia T.V. in the photos is a 55”. The subwoofer is fairly large, but is also slim, so It’s not too intrusive in my bedroom.
Overall, a really great set, and much better than I was expecting. It also seems to be more responsive with my T.V. remote, but I imagine that’s because my T.V. is also a Sony. The one odd thing I’ve encountered is two loud odd sound disturbances while watching sports, but they haven’t happened since. I also have a much easier time hearing dialog with this soundbar than my previous one.

We purchased this theater/sound bar to compliment our new Bravia II television for our family room. the form factor is designed very well and is aesthetically pleasing with our entertainment unit. The sound quality is good. It produces excellent highs and mids that are easy on the ear. The bass is balanced however it can produce booming low frequencies without the mud. Set up was very easy and the app gives you additional control over this system. We also purchased this as a bundle with our Bravia II which was on sale as well.

This soundbar completely transformed my setup. The audio is insanely clear, the bass hits hard without rattling anything, and the overall sound feels way more expensive than what I paid. Dialogue is crisp, action scenes feel powerful, and even regular TV sounds clean and punchy.
Setup took just a couple of minutes — plug it in, connect, and it was ready to go. The subwoofer paired instantly and adds that deep, rich low-end you can feel, not just hear. It fills the whole room with balanced, immersive sound.
The design is sleek, the build quality feels solid, and the volume gets loud with zero distortion. Honestly, this made movies, gaming, and music way more fun. If you want a reliable, powerful upgrade without the hassle, this is the one.
Easily one of the best home audio purchases I’ve made. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants real theater-quality sound at home.

The soundbar and sub woofer create excellent sound and viewing experience. The price range is good. If you are looking for a simple setup to get an immersive experience, you won't be disappointed. Please note though that this is a 3.1.2 (3 front channels, 1 subwoofer and 2 up firing channels) set up and does not have rear speakers. So, it won't sound as good as a 5.1 system.
Here are some more observations after using it for almost 2 weeks.
Setup is super simple. You connect the sound bar to your TV's ARC or eARC HDMI port using the provided HDMI cable; plug in the power supply; launch the BRAVIA app on your mobile and go through the setup instructions in the app. It took me around 15 mins to unbox and setup.
The design is sleek, there is mesh speaker grille that covers front and top. It looks premium. There is one small LED that will let you know if the bar is ON or OFF. There are two mounting holes in the back which will make wall mounting it simple but I have it on my entertainment center. The remote is also pretty simple and provides usual functions. You can also use BRAVIA app to control the settings.
The best part is obviously the sound. It definitely sounds much bigger than it looks. The bass is good and if you increase it a bit than it gets even better.
The only missing feature in my opinion is the in-built WiFi. This is really disappointing in 2025! It also means that there are no wireless firmware updates and you have to do the updates manually via USB. This definitely is ridiculously outdated.
Other than that I really like it and would definitely recommend it.

The Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 6 is an excellent upgrade from TV speakers and delivers a truly immersive home-theater experience in a clean, simple setup. The Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound is rich and spacious, dialogue is crystal clear thanks to the dedicated center channel, and the wireless subwoofer adds deep, powerful bass without being overwhelming. Setup was quick using HDMI eARC, and the sleek black design looks great with my TV. Movies, sports, and even music sound noticeably better, making this a fantastic value for the price. The Bravia Theater Bar 6 has been an excellent addition to our living room entertainment system. Voices are clear and can be heard above the noise. Bass is powerful, especially given the size of the subwoofer speaker. Bass is as good as many other models I tested with much bigger speakers. Up-firing speakers help add depth to the sound and the Bravia control app has great options built in.

Great Sound, But Lacks True Surround for the Price

I had the opportunity to receive the Sony Bravia 6 soundbar as a gift and I was genuinely excited to put it to the test. Given its hefty $650 price tag, I went into this experience with high expectations, hoping to be thoroughly impressed. For context, I’ve been using a nearly decade-old Vizio sound system, which includes a subwoofer and two rear speakers. While that setup began to suffer from frequent connection issues, its sound quality remained strong. Naturally, I saw this Sony system as a chance to upgrade — with the hope of better audio quality, more reliable connectivity, and modern features.
Let me begin by clarifying that, since I didn’t purchase this unit, my review is entirely unbiased and sincere. I have no incentive to praise it undeservedly, which I believe is especially important for anyone seriously considering spending $650 on this sound system.
Design & Setup Experience:
In terms of size, the soundbar is on the longer side, but that’s to be expected if you’re aiming for a theater-style setup or have a larger TV stand. The subwoofer, on the other hand, is quite large — significantly bigger than my previous one. That said, its size is justified by the deep, rich bass it delivers.
One area that left me underwhelmed was the Bravia app. Given Sony’s reputation, I expected a polished and feature-rich companion app. Instead, it’s very basic — not terrible, but definitely not impressive. Still, it gets the job done, and you’ll need it to complete the installation process. For connectivity, you have the option to use an optical cable or HDMI ARC. While I’m not an audiophile, my research pointed to HDMI ARC being the superior option for audio quality — thankfully, Sony includes the HDMI cable in the box.
Firmware Update Frustrations:
After setup, the system prompted a firmware update, and this turned out to be a major headache. The process was confusing, the instructions were poorly written, and I ended up having to try multiple USB flash drives (five, to be exact) before I could get it to work. Reaching out to Sony’s support didn’t help; their guidance was minimal and not useful. It eventually worked, but only after about ten attempts. For a product at this price point, the update experience should be far smoother.
Audio Quality & Limitations:
Now to the good part: the sound quality is excellent. Sony delivers crisp highs, a well-balanced midrange, and powerful bass. However, this system is being marketed and priced like a full surround sound experience — and it simply isn’t. The lack of support for rear speakers is a major letdown. I had assumed I could purchase and add Sony rear speakers to enhance the setup, only to discover that the system is completely standalone, with no compatibility for expansion.
That’s a big oversight. At this price, many users will expect a complete surround sound system — or at least the option to build one. As someone who came from a setup that included rear speakers, I can confidently say that this Sony system, while great in sound clarity, lacks the immersive depth true surround sound provides.
Build Quality & Final Thoughts:
The build quality is solid and feels premium, and I do believe this soundbar and subwoofer will last a long time. They’d probably perform best in a smaller to mid-sized room, where the absence of rear speakers might be less noticeable. Also, I’ve experienced no connectivity issues since switching from my aging Vizio system — which is a major plus and tells me it was probably time for a change.
Still, it’s hard not to compare the two. My old setup, despite being close to 10 years old and far cheaper, offered a more immersive movie-watching experience thanks to those rear speakers. In terms of raw sound quality, the Sony may edge out the Vizio slightly — but not by $650 worth, especially if immersion is a priority.
Final Verdict:
If you’re looking for a stylish, high-quality 2.1 sound system and are okay with the limitations, the Sony Bravia 6 delivers great audio. But if you’re expecting a true home theater experience, particularly at this premium price, be aware: the lack of rear speaker support and the frustrating setup experience may leave underwhelmed.

Packed well, and arrived safely. The sound bar and sub have a very attractive look – excellent fit and finish and will easily fit into any room settings.
Unpacking and setup is very easy, A simple quick start guide with a QR code to download the Sony app allows you to quickly set up the different settings and parameters of the sound bar.
Hookup consists of plugging in the bar and subwoofer to power, and the HDMI ARC cable. The sound bar has two padded feet that can be attached for shelf mounting. It can also be wall mounted if desired.
The features include 3.1.2ch, subwoofer, Dolby Atmos®/DTS:X compatible, Blue Tooth wireless connectivity, optical input.
Using the app, and connecting phone to the sound bar, allows you to control all settings with the phone, along with using the remote.
After hooking up, I went on to test sound with Dolby 5.1 input. First, the bass is impressive – powerful for such a small enclosure. However, it seems to have more of a “thump” than the actual low bass octaves. It has three front firing speakers, with the center speaker giving clear speech. The upward firing speakers are supposed add a dimension, however, mounting directly under the tv seems to limit that. Comparing streaming movies with 5.1 audio, and Blu Ray disc with 5.1 audio, the disc seemed to have a little better quality bass and effects.
I also connected wirelessly with laptop via bluetooth. Paring went well, and the sound output from the system was very good, and it seemed the bass seemed a little deeper, with less of a “thump”. The treble was clear, bring the cymbals out well, and mids clean.
There are numerous settings in the app – system, sound, HDMI, Bluetooth, etc., etc. One “con” for me is while there is a bass level control, it is lacking treble, midrange, or other levels to tailor sound to one's liking. Also I did notice a very slight lag of sound from picture.
Although a little pricey, this could be a nice addition to your home theater. Definitely a big step up from tv speakers. Due to couple negatives would give 4 1/2 stars.

This soundbar is great for smaller and moderate sized TV rooms. The subwoofer can get pretty loud but it elevates your movie watching experience. The setup was easy on this but it does require you to install the app, but the app isn’t needed after you finish setting up the sound system. For the price I’d definitely recommend this product, especially if you have a moderate sized space that you watch your TV in.

I purchased this soundbar and wireless subwoofer last month at a discounted price of $449.99 (price-matched to Amazon’s $448.00). For that price, it’s an excellent audio system for my second Sony Bravia 7 TV. I’m not sure I would have purchased it at full price, it seems a bit expensive for a 3.1.2 setup. Rears cannot be added to this.
It was very easy to set up and configure using Sony’s Bravia Connect app. There are enough features and settings to customize the sound to your liking. The wireless subwoofer packs a punch as well.
Overall, I’m happy with the purchase, especially for the price I paid.

This soundbar setup sounds really nice, especially at the price point. The app has some settings to allow height and distance customization which really helps the Dolby Atmos shine. However, this is not a WiFi soundbar and if you use Spotify (like I do) you cannot stream directly to the bar unless you use Bluetooth. You can open the app on your TV or streaming device, but then you are required to keep your tv on while listening to music. I ended up returning this for that reason as well as the fact that the subwoofer would briefly disconnect when changing the volume. It came right back on, but this was fairly annoying.

Hi MUNROTC,
Thank you for your candid review. We're glad you enjoyed the sound and price of the BRAVIA Theater Bar 6, and we apologize for the frustration with its connectivity and the subwoofer issue you experienced. You are correct that this model does not have Wi-Fi for direct music streaming.
If you ever reconsider, our BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 or 9 models both feature built-in Wi-Fi and direct streaming to meet your needs.
Thanks for choosing Sony. Best regards, Eliab

Excellent Sound Quality. The only downside is TV is not getting connected to Sound Bar at times when we switch on. So we have to switch off & on the soundbar or tv to reconnect.
