Best Head Unit for The Price!

I purchased this headunit to replace my Sony WX-GT90BT, which was already a great headunit. I was looking for more power, but wasn’t really interested in buying a separate amp to power my 6x9 door speakers. This headunit surprised me and exceeded the 40 watts RMS per channel rating on the box. Currently, from my tests, each channel runs at around 43 watts RMS. The EQ settings are amazing, NFC to connect your phone is such a treat, and the custom color options are awesome for matching up the radio with the rest of your dash lighting. The 5V preouts are amazing and send an amazing quality signal to my subwoofers. Sony is way ahead of its time by adding in a built-in amp and other manufacturers should follow in this direction. I’m waiting for a double DIN version of the MEX-XB100BT to come out and I’ll be first in line to buy it.
Keep in mind, the power and ground wires are 14 gauge wires connected to a fuse box. I suggest you do NOT connect these to your factory wiring harness. Instead, buy an amp wiring kit and connect the power directly to the battery, as recommended in the owner’s manual. I bought this pretty good and affordable wiring kit: Rockford Fosgate RFK10. This is the only way you’re going to get the most power out of the Sony MEX-XB100BT. This isn’t your average 14-17 watt RMS per channel typical headunit. To get the full 40+ watt RMS per channel, power it directly from your battery. It’s worth the time and effort, and you will get every watt for your money; and then some.

I chose this head unit because I wanted the class D internal amp that came with it. At 40W per channel it is far higher than what everybody else seems to be doing. I've been really happy with it. Initially the highs were a little too bright for me. After a couple weeks, it broke in and it sounds great now. The bass boost is fantastic. It makes my 10" sub hit pretty hard. Great for listening to hip hop when you want lots of bass but not a lot of volume. I imagine it would work well even with just 6x9s. The 10 band equalizer is very nice. I haven't done a custom one yet but switching between the presets change the sound significantly. It even has a preset for electronica so it covers quite a few genres. The aux input has it's own volume boost so you can use your phone with it and your headphones and not have to worry about changing your volume up and down constantly. The color changing on the front is nice. I have it glow based on the music and cycle through all of the colors. It's a nice effect at night.
I could have spent more and got something with a touchscreen but I'm very happy with what I have. When Android Auto is more mature then maybe I will upgrade to a full touch unit. I doubt any proprietary solution will ever be able to compete with what Google will do in the next couple years. Buying an expensive touchscreen unit now is like buying an WinMo phone right before the iPhone/Droid came out.

Radio sounds great! I'm glad I purchased this unit. Bluetooth works great. Everyone says they hear me clearly when speaking to them over the phone. My iPhone connects via Bluetooth as soon as I enter my vehicle. I can now enjoy listening to my Pandora, YouTube, or any other programs without the need to have any cables connected to it. It gives you the option to plug in your usb stick, but haven't had a chance to try it. I don't have the need to use it other than to charge my phone. The 100x4 boost the sound so much it sounds like I have a subwoofer in my truck. And I do not have any kind of high quality speakers installed other than the stock speakers it came with. The customization is pretty neat as well. It lets you download an app which communicates with your device and sets up the display color, sound, Bluetooth settings, etc. So far I'm happy with my purchase and recommend this one to all.

I had trouble hearing the stereo with my roof off. I also wanted bluetooth since I had trouble hearing on my cell phone due to the wind.
My prior radio
was a $600 Blaupaunkt that came as standard equiptment and had an sd card reader reader that could only read 1Gb cards that were common 10 years ago but are now obsolete.
The Sony radio has to be wired directly to the battery and this was the hardest part since the car is mid engined and my battery is in the trunk behind the engine.
I originally thought a wire was loose since the buttons on the rado kept flashing and the color on the display kept changing colors. It was very distracting driving at night. I then found out that the settings could be changed to stop the buttons from flashing and that a solid color could be picked for the display.
I downloaded Songplay and it eorks great. Can have radio play music from my phone and also from Pandora using bluetooth.
I also bought the Sony speakers recommended for this radio since they were the same size as the standard speakers. This was a mistake.
The radio has something where the rear speakers can be used as a type of subwoofer. I used this setting and I can barely hear any sound coming from the rear speakers and dont feel any addition bass. However if I switch ot back to regular mode it sounds great. The Mega Bass feature adds more bass and it sounds a little better.
This also has a 10 frequency equilizer. My other radio had a microphone that does a sound test and automatically sets the equilizer based upon the what it hears from the speakers during the test.. I used the same settings on this radio and it didnt seem to make any difference.
Overall I am happy with this radio and how it works with bluetooth and songplay. However the flashy light show was really annoying.
I didnt try out the remote control since it seems dumb since everything is within reach.

I purchased this to my 2000 Jeep wrangler. I needed something high power and can do USB audio. This thing is amazing. It has a class D amp built in. Has its own external power supply fuse box and outputs 45watts RMS x 4. I have a two pairs of 5.25" kicker comps and they sound amazing as the RMS for the speakers where 45watts RMS each. It was a perfect setup. Everything sounds clear, clean and loud. Only con is how they laid out the menu settings.

I've always believed that Sony makes a superior product - while they may not be the "best" when it comes to car stereos, they put out a dependable product that does the job. This is a nice little deck that adds a built-in amplifier which makes installation even easier than a stand-alone amp. No, it won't blow your socks off like a 2000W system, but paired with decent speakers it does make a noticeable difference from a stock deck running stock speakers. Deck had all the bells and whistles I was looking for and for the price I couldn't beat it. The only complaint I have so far, is the bluetooth sometimes pops and cracks; but, everyone I've spoken to with it has stated that it sounds like I'm just using my phone and they hear me perfectly well even at high speeds. Now, I'll just have to see how long the deck lasts!!

Great radio and lots of power from the built-in amp. The connection works well for streaming your music or taking voice calls. Siri works pretty darn good for things like sending a text or adding stuff to your calendar. I bought this same unit for my sons Tahoe and was so impressed I got one for my car!

This sound system was rated as one of the highest for auto audio. Best Buy was the only place that had it and it was at a great price. Very retro looking but with lots of awesome surprises. Put this in an 86 Camaro. Looks awesome and sounds phenomenal

I love this stereo. It's sounds fantastic and the built-in amp gives my stock speakers an extra kick. I have a premium stock stereo system, so I didn't have to purchase speakers. I can only imagine the sound that would come from a system with aftermarket speakers. The only downfall is the stereo prompts you to open the app EVERY TIME it connects to your phone via Bluetooth. I like that it will automatically mute the stereo when you're on a call, whether your call is routed through the stereo or not, then resumes when you hang up. Definitely worth the money if the quality of the sound of your music is important to you while you're in your car.
