Excellent speakers for the price. Connect them with good subwoofer and they beat tower speakers. There is online YT mod how to improve them even further. For the price cannot be beaten. Got open box for 125/pair.

Purchased these speakers for a small sound system I needed for casual listening. I was surprised at the quality of the sound. Very nice highs and midrange and even the bass was good for a bookshelf speaker. Excellent speaker from best buy.

Awesome Sounding Speakers For Their Size!!.. Might Be A Lil Bright Sounding For Some.. But They're Crystal Clear.. Even When You Put More Power To Them.. Very Lil Distortion If Any.. Good Bass For The Size.. They Get Loud!!

The Sony speakers are replacing older Onkyo speakers. The Sony speakers have a good balance of highs and lows. The bass is reasonable at normal listening volumes. Horns and strings sound bright at times but overall a good budget speaker. Price was about $75 for the pair during the holiday sale.

Great speaker for the price. Even better when on sale. My primary use has been for left and right mains in 5.1 entry level hometheater setup. I used without a subwoofer for about a little over month and bass was surprisingly good when placed about 1ft from wall. Pretty clear imaging as well. Crisp highs and decent mids. Once paired with a subwoofer and sony’s center speaker and properly calibrated this speaker offers impressive performance for its price. I handled reference level really well. My speakers are approx 14ft away from viewing position. Using a denon x1700 at 80 watts per channel at 8ohm with avr set to 6 ohms for these speakers.

These Sony CS5 bookshelf speakers are really top notch. I was a bit skeptical of the positive reviews I had read, but I was looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers and decided to give these a try. I also ordered a pair of Q Acoustics Concept 20 bookshelf speakers and compared the sound of the two sets back and forth.
The Concept 20s edged out the Sony Cores, but not by much, and the Concept 20s cost over twice as much (actually four times as much because I caught a great deal on Best Buy for the Sonys). I kept the Concept 20s, but I also kept the Sony CS5 speakers for my office. They are too good to return.
I was impressed with the full, clear sound of the Sony speakers. The bass is very acceptable, especially for bookshelf speakers, and the mids and highs are clear. Add a small subwoofer, and the Sony Cores shine even more.

I have had these hooked up in my media system for a couple of months now, and I am still happy with the purchase. I got these in large part because my receiver is the Sony core receiver. I also own the Sony core sub woofer, which I am also happy with. Great all around sound. The system is set up in a large living room that opens up into a kitchen and paired with a 75 inch TCL television. I recommend these for anyone looking for a new system or replacement speakers that are reasonably priced. One other note, I currently have these as my front right and left channels.

Used these to replace old BA speakers in a speaker/subwoofer set. They are a little bigger than I had expected, but I did know the dimensions so that's on me. I was not looking to break the bank so I was not expecting a whole lot. The sound however is great!! At nearly full volume there is no clipping or distortion at all as far as these ears can tell. That may be because of the built in crossover of the BA sub, but maybe not. Either way I'm very happy.

I am totally surprised at the sound quality of these Sony speakers. I had recently purchased some BIC America bookshelf speakers for my family room that sounded fantastic and considered buying another pair to use in my living room. However, after reading some of the reviews on the Sony speakers I thought I would give them a try since the price was comparable to the BIC's. After hooking these Sony speakers up to an older model Pioneer Receiver and playing one of my high quality CD's I was totally blown away. I could not believe their clarity and response. I was surprised that Sony could make a set of bookshelf speakers sound this good. I could go into much more detail about my experience with these speakers but the bottom line is that for the money you can't go wrong. I highly recommend to anyone looking for some very reasonably priced bookshelf speakers. If you want some really deep base to go with these speakers I recommend the Sony powered sub-woofer. This combination will provide you with a very good sounding setup.

I had been looking for inexpensive three-way speakers for my Yamaha R-S202 receiver. Looked at all major brands that had nothing to fit my $200.00 spending plan, and they were two ways. Even looked at the more high-end speakers that were two ways or multi-speakers for thousands of dollars. So I settled on these three-way book self-speakers from Sony, and I love the sound, Big improvement over my cheap two ways. Highly recomend them.

I bought these speakers for the library, so I decided not to spend a lot. The reviews here and on Amazon were impressive so, at a quarter of the price of a slightly larger pair of Bose, I decided to give them a try, thinking I could always return them and face the music on the Bose pair If they didn’t deliver. These babies aren’t going anywhere. They’re just as described in the 5 star reviews. I went with 4 stars only because they produce a beautifully full dimension 3 channel sound even though they don’t have quite the same bass richness or the treble cleanness as the $450 Bose pair...but pretty close! My house is wired for speakers throughout so I can enjoy whatever I’m listening to everywhere and these do not disappoint at all when I head into the library. For the money, these will not disappoint at all.

These are absolutely fantastic speakers. I know to go with Sony when I want high quality, deep bass, and an expansive soundstage. Just having a single pair makes music come to life with astounding clarity. They sound amazing with a Sony STR-DH770 7.2 channel receiver. I want to emphasize that the bass on these things is no slouch and reproduced an impressive dynamic range even without a subwoofer. The design is obelisk-like and classic Sony, which I absolutely love.
These are impressive speakers at this or any price range.

I'd searched high and low for affordable floor speakers to add to the home stereo system I was piecing back together after years of not being able to listen to my vinyl LPs. I wasn't able to find any within my budget range, so I decided to buy bookshelf speakers instead. I spent a long time researching and ultimately decided on these. WOW, they're surprisingly great speakers and put out some powerful, clear, high-quality sound! I never jack my volume way up out of courtesy to my duplex neighbor, so these work perfectly for my needs, yet they're still powerful. Very happy with these.

Excellent speakers! The sound is great for music listening and movies. With a sub they are well balanced with just a little bright in the highs. They seem to have a decent crossover unit built in and don't need re-built crossovers as some sights suggest. I think these are a great value but were less money when I purchased them, Wait till they have a special on them.

These little speakers are absolutely mind blowing.
I originally bought a pair a few months ago and returned them as they didn't sound any better than my Celestions at the time, but decided to try them again about 2 weeks ago, different room placement, and they 100% came to life (using them nearfield for computer speakers) where my desk is now. Bass doesn't go incredibly deep, but they are bookshelf speakers, and the bass that is there is nice and smooth. I have a Mirage LF100 subwoofer that they blend nicely with, however, most of the time the subwoofer is off as I find I don't need it.
For their sale price of $74.99 I cannot recommend them enough.

I bought these bookshelf speakers several years ago when I bought my first a/v home theater system. I upgraded my system to a newer system for Christmas and chose to buy new Sony speakers for it. I don’t regret that at all. These bookshelf speakers have been the loudest, the clearest and best speakers I’ve had for years. I had a set of old Pioneer floor speakers that I will never stop using because they have great sound… but these guys do out perform them at every turn. They may not have the ultra bass the old guys have, but they do have good bass. I’m waiting for another sale to buy a couple more sets.

See, I am not any acclaimed audiophile, or have a blog, or column anywhere, but I can certainly tell the difference between good and bad audio reproduction. Also, the only credibility to this is that my few friends who come to me with their requirements and are happy with my advices.
I work as a IT consultant, and this year working all the time out my room and desk, I felt the need to make my work time more enjoyable. So I thought of getting some good speakers. I wanted something similar to my old setup for ~11 year - 2 M-Audio 5x D toe’d-in at corner of my desk. I relocated and gave my old setup to my younger brother. After my move I bought a Riva Festival (very nice speaker) for its integration to airplay, chromecast and Spotify. I enjoyed listening to it on the couch, or doing chores. Now I wanted something for my work desk (at home), looking at me and giving me a company.
I started my research with a budget of upto $500. The first obvious choice were Studio Monitors, Bi Amped, 5-6 inch woofer. I heard Adam Audio’s tv5 and Kali lp-6. Both them sound great and come highly recommended. I would recommend Kali for I liked the sound was more comfortable - and surprisingly at $100 less.
So now my budget came down $300, I was sold on Kali. During the research lot of reviewers spoke about ELACs, Klipsch’s, Pioneer passive speakers. These passive speakers + amp were taking me to ~500+. I do not know how people find used speakers which are good. May be I am new to this country, so it will be a while before I understand markets apart from bestbuy and amazon.
Anyways, as a junkie I still kept wandering online. I came across Sony SSC5 with an inexpensive Fosi Amp on CheapAudioMan blog. This setup up is in the range of $200. Then during the thanksgiving the setup came lower to $150. It was so low, that I was really tempted to try it, and I got it.
Oh Man, it is unbelievable. The sound is so pleasant and it is so easy to listen, there is no fatigue. I dont have vinyls, I use Spotify at 320kbps, at times Amazon Music. I just like to listen good music, and its important that we focus on it more than the technicalities and just enjoy it. Imagine that feeling when something sounds so nice that, the hands stop, head rests on the back and eyes get closed.
They sit handsomely on my desk, over inclined pads, slightly toed in. I am truly amazed at the soundstage. It always feel as if the sound is coming from just behind the monitor/screen. I use a 5+ feet desk, and they are edges. I wish they came in red veneer. Also, I liked that they rear ported which keeps them compact enough (front porting I think need space in front). They are ~6 inch away from the wall and nothing is boomy.
Specifications you can read in the product details. They sound really well, and then from time to time when you realize what you paid for them - you just cant stop smiling.
