At first I thought this recorder was just going to be satisfactory but it exceeded my expectations. In lectures it does filter out background noise and isolates the professors voice very well. Even at distances it does a fantastic job, the file sizes are relatively small so that you can copy them to your laptop as I do. The only draw back is Sony doesn't have sound editing software for Mac OS computers only Windows. It's just as well because I use Audacity only Mac and it is a very simple to use and powerful program for sound editing.

I have an older digital recorder and the sound quality and record time aren't the best. These recorders have come a long way since my first one, longer record times and the audio is saved as a small MP3 file so no goofing around with conversion software. The sound quality is exceptionally good. I used it a work in a large conference room. Even soft spoken individuals were easily heard as the audio was very clear.

I purchased this to record meetings for later review and incorporation into official minutes, so I'm typically using it in conference rooms with 10 - 12 people in attendance (plus others on a conference line). Voices are picked up clearly - often better than what I heard at the meeting. The ability to directly download recordings to my computer for archiving/sharing is an added benefit. Highly recommended.

The recorder has great sound when you replay. Easy to use and hide if you don't want someone to know. Just all around awesome.

My wife actually bought this for our 4 year old. He likes to record himself singing, and talking. He doesn't know how to delete anything yet, but it only took him about 2 minutes to figure out how to record, and playback his recordings. It seems to have pretty good audio quality. He's dropped it a couple of times on hard wood floors, and it doesn't seem to bother it at all. So, I'd say it's working great!

I bought this recorder to help me study for a test. It is very easy to use, the perfect size for travel and the volume is great.

Compact easy to use unit. Has more than sufficient storage to record and retain many hours of recordings. Highly recommend.

This is a good voice activated recorder. I used it to monitor 'in home care' services and was surprised at how well it picked up sound from far away. (aprox 10 feet at times, but it sounded like it was inches away) The only 'problem' I had was that it possibly didn't start recording until louder sounds were present. Still, I was satisfied with it and it definitely got the job done.

Has mass storage and picks up sounds great. I use it for work and school so I can catch up on meeting minutes and lectures.

I use this for EVERY class. Its simple to use, just place it on my desk/table and leave it, it has plenty of memory.

This is very small so it's easy to carry, I used it in a church and it picked up the music clearly with no feedback.

Last minute purchase, for a conference seminar. Worked great, clear voice pickup, without a lot of background noise. The 2 AAA batteries lasted for all three 8 hour days without needing to be changed and after 15 hours of recording only 1/3 of storage used. Would definitely purchase again.

My wife purchased the recorder because I needed it for a class I am teaching. I mentioned I wanted to record my classes and download them to the computer so students could listen again if they wanted. Not really knowing what I was getting, I found the product easy to use. Being a technological neophyte, I am pleased with the recorder.

The mic is really good. Batteries last a long time. easy to use.

Before I purchased this item I looked for its performance in lecture halls for college and I found very few reviews. I decided to give it a try anyways and found that it's incredibly useful. Make sure to sit further from people talking around you, face it towards the teacher and it should record your professor from up to 20 rows behind.
