I got this camera last month in Best Buy Pasadena. I remembered that this was the last Sony recoder on the gadget stand that day so I'm lucky to have this great recorder. This Sony Recorder ICD-PX820 has 2GB of storage which you can record audio with it for long hours. It also doesn't consumes a lot of power on your battery. I tried recording a full 8 hours straight in a high quality audio and the battery is not yet drain-out. So I tried to use it again the next day and there's still power on the battery. It's powered by (2)AAA batteries and has many great features in it. It comes with a Manual booklet, a USB cord, (2)AAA batteries and a CD installer software which you really don't need because this is a plug and play device. The Audio file is in MP3 format. You can also transfer MP3 songs in it. It has a 2 input on the top which you can plug an additional microphone and an input of headphone. It has a simple design and the size makes it easy to bring anywhere. you can carry it on your pocket. It's actually quite bit smaller than your regular cellphone. It is easy and reliable to use. I really like this recorder and I highly recommend this product to everyone.

Used it in a 3 hrs seminar and got very good recording quality. Digital Voice Editor software is pretty easy to use w/ Windows but not compatible w/ Mac which is a weakness. Menu buttons are not very smart designed but still easy to use. MP3 function is good either. There is still plenty space after storing seminar recording and more than 8 hrs music. Lacking a speaker. Appearance is not attractive enough. Battery life is excellent.

Its super high quality feature is actually very good quality and it has a lot of memory space available. The information saved is very easy and fast to transfer to a computer, and you can divide each file into short ones if you'd like. It is very lightweight and so easy to use. I love it! You don't lose the information saved when changing batteries either.

I bought this to record conference calls and meetings because I am TERRIBLE at taking notes. For conference calls it works perfectly. For meetings I put it in a briefcase or a jacket pocket and it records super well. I am impressed because it's really cheap. After I've recorded I connect the device via a USB cable to my PC and the Sony software transfers the files. Unfortunately the labeling of the files is a little confusing and there's no way to configure naming and notes in the program. Instead you must go to the My Documents folder and rename the files yourself. Otherwise I could not be happier. ONE drawback, and this is kinda odd.. When you want to delete a file, you hold down the delete button. It will then PLAY the file while also asking if you are sure you want to delete - in which case you would hit the delete button again to confirm. This is kinda odd b/c in deletions you have to hear a second or three of each file. Overall very satisfied. It's easy to use, lightweight, long battery life, great recording quality from a briefcase or next to a phone, and a really great price.

Great Quality and Easy to Use

I use this device for my college classes and I'm very impressed with it's over all quality. The sound is most impressive, I use it in the HQ setting (though there is a Super HQ setting) and the playback is crystal clear. The absolutely best part about this version is the USB connection and the easy transfer to my PC. The files are all MP3 so there is no conversion needed. Someone else mentioned the fact that when you go to delete a file it plays the start of the recording. For anyone that has (by mistake) deleted the wrong lecture or recording you know why that function is there. The only problem is the Menu buttons, I have to use my fingernail to mash them, BUT the over all design of the device is excellent.

I had recently purchased the the Sony 800 but was not satisfied because of the fact that if i record something i wanted to save it on my computer and it didn't have that option so i returned it and got this one! Its great easy to use and I have a Mac just record and plug in and thats it!!! no additional things needed it does come with a CD for PC users but i installed it for a friend and it worked great. It has VOR which was a plus and so small now just looking for a case

I am old school. I had not purchased a recorder in over a decade. I purchased Sony Digital Voice Recorder and was amazed by the technology. The amount of information that can be stored, particularly without a tape having to be used is remarkable to me. There are folders after folders of ways to store your recordings. I bought it for a class I am taking. I also like that it has the automatic feature of turning itself on or off when recording based on sounds it hears. Another feature is tha it can be hooked up to your PC.

I haven't tried it for anything else but recording classes, but so far it has been extremely useful and has worked excellent. My clases are full of noises from people writing or moving. I have some professors that speak sound and clear and others that you can barely hear, but when playing back the recorder, you can hear them without a problem. It's very very easy to learn how to use it. It offers the opportunity to edit the recorded message, but I haven't try that either, because I haven't needed it yet. Enjoy!

I bought this digital recorder because I'm a paranormal investigator and a digital recorder is a must-have on any investigation. I bought this one because I trust the Sony name and quality. On my first investigation using this device, I recorded 5 EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) within the first 20 minutes of recording, and many of them were mere whispers! I like that I can separate recordings into folders to keep them together until I can transfer to my computer. The repeat and divide functions are also very helpful in my line of work.

Used it right out of the package. Still haven't read the manual. Can't wait to see what else it can do! I have used it numerous times during mystery shopping. The sound quality is awesome. I've recorded in situations with some serious background noise and could still easily hear the conversation I was recording.

    Excellent all-around digital recorder

I use this primarily to record lectures from my desk in the classroom. The recorder picks up the professor well without too much ambient room noise. Files are easily downloaded both to Windows-based and Mac OS-X-based computers. Battery life is good - at least 7-8 hours of recording per 2 AA alkaline batteries.

The mic is very sensitive. Don't eat chips while you're trying to record a class. Great and small. Fits easily into bookbag.

    Bad. Horrible

This honestly is a big disappointment. The buttons are unintuitive, it doesn't record well at all and you have to hold it out all the way and yell at it for it to record anything. You can't record lectures - live or offline, you can't record conversations - business or casual. It doesn't meet my needs one bit. Best Buy doesn't have good voice recorders. Period.
