The Sony DCS-H300 is a really good grab for the money. It is much user friendly, with similar features, than many other more expensive cameras. It offers more megapixels than costlier cameras and has plenty of program and setting choices for the wana-be professional. Its an excellent introductory camera with a great price. Comparative ratings also place this camera above many competitors, including my Nikon Coolpix L820, which is almost double in price.

I bought this camera for my grandpa who's in his late 80's. It's a good size for someone with big, somewhat clumsy hands. I like that it comes with a neck-strap and has a "simple" menu mode. It also has a lens cap that is attached to the camera, so it cannot be lost. My grandpa was able to take pictures, upload them to his computer, and e-mail them. The pictures he took are really sharp with good color. Another bonus is that is uses normal AA batteries, so when they drain out, replacing them is easy. That said, there are some cons: - The battery/SD card compartment cover is not easy to open/close and feels flimsy. - It's not incredibly obvious which way the batteries are supposed to be oriented. There are markings in the battery slots, but it's very hard to read.

Hi puffytummy, we're glad that you and your grandfather love the camera. Thanks for the feedback on the battery slot, We'll take note of this and forward it to the proper department. Thanks_Mitch

This was a first camera in a long time for our family. Have been using phone cameras, but wanted to capture some more action and distant shots of family. This takes great photos and is easy to use and understand. There is more that it can do, but still learning. Easy point and shoot with many more options to explore!

I bought this camera shortly after it was released from Sony, and couldn't be happier with the results it gives me. I'm not a professional photographer, but I've won many contests and awards with my photos. This camera can take awesome pics in macro - or with the incredible zoom. The focusing is quick, the LCD screen can be moved to different positions to make it easier to see in bright light, and it has a viewfinder for those of us "old school" photographers! Easy to use in any mode! I've taken many Ribbon Winning photos with this camera! The few issues I have with it is not with it's performance. The lens cap is useless, and is easy to fall off and get lost. It doesn't come with a printed manual. I'm not one to run to the computer every time I need to know something about the camera - so that is probably my biggest beef. And altho I don't take many flash pictures as I feel it gives things a "fake" look, I have to say I don't like this flash at all. It almost always makes people look way over exposed. But this camera is so awesome in low light, you won't have to use flash very often. You can take a photo in such low light with unbelievable results - you'll be blown away! This is my 2nd Sony, and I'm sold! I have many film SLR's and a Canon DSLR, but this HX300 is my "go to" camera! I wouldn't be without it!

I was looking for a simple point-and-shoot for a trip to DC. This one was on clearance and I took a chance. This camera is very easy to use and the zoom is magnificent. It captures motion very well. I recommend investing in rechargeable batteries, though.

Easy to use point n shoot. Lots of neat features like panorama mode. Uses AA batteries which make convenient - no need to carry a separate charger since these batteries r everywhere. Takes good, clear pics in daytime, not as crisp when using d flash. Good price for a point n shoot.

Sony is a good brand. So I was not surprised that the item is a good purchase, Not super high end, but for the price, you get a lot of what u want. Good zoom, megapixels..comfortable to grip. I like that it uses regular batteries. I always think that if u are somewhere off thebeaten track and want to take some pix.it's always good that if your camera battery dies, you don't have to go to a specialty shop. 7-11's are everywhere

Love this camera for a not experienced photographer, it is easy to use and focus, has a great zoom with image stabilization. Videos are clear due to the stabilization when not using a tripod. Has a Panorama mode for taking breathtaking Panoramic photos.

It takes great pictures and is so easy to use! At 62 I didn't want a difficult camera to learn but I wanted to be able to take good pictures when we travel and of my dogs and grandchildren...this is the camera!

Good , solid camera. Excellent Zoom. Is a bit clunky, but if you do not mind the size and want better than your average point and shoot, I recommend this without reservation

This camera is excellent for beginners. It is easy to use and the photos are excellent. The zoom lens was even better than expected. It's easy hold and use and the digital screen makes viewing your subject easy.

i'm still in the process of learning how to set up a shot on full-manual, but i can say for sure that at least it IS possible with this guy. and i like having the super-easy "point and shoot" mode to show me what 'optimal' settings are for any given shot! my only real gripe is the f-stop is always semi-automatic... you can either be wide open or full narrow; no settings available in between. and it can really chew through some batteries in manual mode, i bought some rechargeables about a week after getting it and noticing the drain. i still use my phone camera for most things even after getting this; i shoot landscape/skyscape mostly. BUT, with a tripod, the 35x optical zoom and 30-second shutter are able to grab shots the phone can only dream of. for that alone, picking up this camera finally put some variety into my gallery and it took no time for it to feel like a worthwhile purchase

I bought this camera to do skateboarding videos and photos. It works very well for that, if you want a quality camera but have no need for a dslr, this is the way to go, I highly reccomend this camera!

This is easy to use, takes marvelously clear pictures, and is as adjustable as you want it to be for exposure and effects (mostly). It does use batteries at a fair rate, but I bought 8 rechargeable AA's and am always ready when the lights go out.
