I have another camera that is similar so it was very easy to pick this Sony camera up and start using it. The zoom is awesome at 50X and you can use it manually to keep from making noise around critters. I take it everywhere. I cannot upload photos because there is a 5 MB limit and most of my photos are 6-7 MB.

Really good in low light and a great zoom. 55mm filters will fit if you want to use them.

As an owner of several DSLRs i wanted a casual camera to tote around for fun shooting without losing a lot of quality and be able to shoot some video too. This camera has not let me down, it's great. Video quality is very good but the best part is the zoom is terrific. For the distance zoom I would need to spend thousands to equal it in one of my DSLRs. I'm not saying the image quality is as good as my Canon but it's still pretty good. One recommendation: buy a tripod if you intend to shoot a lot of ultra zoom pics. I work in the advertising industry.

I was looking for a digital SLR camera with massive zoom capabilities but did not want to change lenses all the time. This Sony was recommended by the sales person at Best Buy San Francisco. I must say it superseeds all my expectations. It is easy in use. Look, zoom, snap... It really is that easy. SLR cameras are a lot more fuzz... Also it's a bit smaler and weighs less than a SLR. Also the nightshots are superb even without flash ! The battery goes for about 300 pictures before recharging. It realy is a best buy indeed ! The only negative is that you have to charge the battery in/with the camera.

Bought this camera for our upcoming trip to Italy. Wanted something a little better than our Kodak Z990. This is a great camera. Plenty of manual settings (still learning!) and two auto settings. Love the focus/zoom ring. Much easier to use than a lever. Great zoom. Batteries do not run down too quickly. Very nice clear pictures.

The camera to carry off the grid

After much agonizing on the right camera to take on a trek up Kilimanjaro, I bought the HX300, and the results were great. Planning a once in a lifetime trip meant getting a camera to capture it. My DSLR was too heavy to carry for the week, and it couldn't charge off my USB solar charger; a compact camera didn't seem to have enough optical goodness for the safari after the trek. In so many ways, this is a compromise camera - but was the very best compromise for this trip. It's a little bulky compared to a compact, but it did fit in my jacket pocket for the final ascent. It's crazy light for it's size and the optical zoom works really well. Digital zoom gets you crazy close, but at the expense of resolution. The automatic modes took a little bit to get used to (I'm old enough to think of the Pentax K1000 as having a lot of bells and whistles), but sadly, it's smarter than I am, so letting it choose auto settings was the right answer 9/10 times. It's not a full DSLR. It's waaaaay slower to focus and shoot. I take a lot of pictures at kids sports events and the HX300 won't be going to those. But for everything else, it may be the new camera to carry. Low light was where this camera really shocked me (in a good way). I have no idea how it can take pictures without flash where I could barely see anything through the viewfinder...but it did. Mission accomplished: I'm home with great photos from the trip. It charged flawlessly from the solar charger so I was never without the ability to shoot for two weeks camping off the grid.

I've just broke a canon camera and my black tie protection couldn't fix so I bought this one that was about the same price. Honestly, there is no comparison, the sony beats it in ease of use, repeatable good quality pictures, and is just as easy to use. I'm no photographer, but anyone can truly get great pictures with this camera. It's a little big, but that's probably my only complaint, but hey with 49x optical zoom it's going to have some size.

This camera takes GREAT shots and the zoom is AMAZING!!!! The zoom is what made me purchase it. I also like that the manual is built in to the camera - no book to fumble through. It also does shockingly well in low light - I hardly ever use the flash. The down side is that it does not write to the disk very quickly.

This camera is easy to use and takes incredible pictures . The 50x zoom allows for photographs of distant objects that are as clear as if they were right in front of you. I only gave 4 stars because many adjustments to settings are not allowed while the camera is in certain shooting modes, but that being said this is the best camera I have found for the price. Highly recommend

Excellent zoom. My daighter is a dancer and I tested it with her doing jumps and spins and they ncame out great, I wish the camera was a bit smaller as it is like a DSLR. But Excellent price too

This camera took great pictures on a recent cruise. I was tired of having to change lenses with my old camera to do zoom photos and this one takes even better photos. Would recommend getting a second battery if like to take lots of pictures while traveling. The battery life is much shorter than any of my previous cameras and having one charged and ready to change is a must. I bought extra with a wall & car charger which is nice since otherwise need to plug camera in to charge battery.

Quality pictures are great, easy to use and menu is easy to follow. Battery's life is OK; the bundle came with an extra one and we bought another one just in case. The low light feature helps a lot when taking pictures at night and helps with battery life. Price was good and there was no need to buy a camera with interchangeable lenses. The set backs are that the lens protector can not be strapped and screen does not swivel and be protected.

I bought this camera because of the capability to operate the settings of the camera manually. I use it in my business and found that I needed manual capability in some shots. I did not want to go to the DSLR camera. I don't need to utilize a bunch of different lenses. This camera gives me many options in my shooting challenges and the quality is great. When I shoot many times I have to take the pic into photoshop to do some adjustments...but this camera does it for me. Amazing! Especially needed when there is a lot of sun and dark shadows....it is really a great camera. I also love not having to change batteries anymore....I just plug the camera in before a long shoot and it recharges the batteries.

I bought this camera to take pictures of hummingbirds. I did not want to buy a lens because what I wanted in a lens just cost too much. The camera does everything I do with my DSLR but don't have to carry a extra heavy lens with me. I have used it indoors and with out the flash with great results. For the price I don't think you can beat this camera.

I do mostly nature photography, so the 50X zoom is fantastic. Getting to the in-zoom or "cropping" feature of the camera is slightly more complex, but once I figured it out it works well. This Camera is so light, so hiking with it is really easy. We also own a fine Nikon but we bought it before the advent of the super zoom features of the more modern cameras, so this camera has definitely taken its place. I would highly recommend this camera my friends. Plus the young man who helped us decide on what camera to buy was amazingly knowledgeable. We will use Best Buy for other purchases because this was so satisfactory.
