Overall best value for Sony A-mount Prime lens, IMO much better value for APSC camera like the A77.
I use this 35mm on my A77 50% of the time, another 50% I used the F2.8 kit lens.
I also have a 50mm version of SAM lens.

I'm currently using this lens on a sony a65. This lens is super sharp and does great in low light. I recently shot a wedding proposal with this lens and was thoroughly impressed. I used no flash at all for one venue and an external flash for the second, extremely low lit hall. This lens did fantastic in both situations. Sony has done a remarkable job with their low cost primes by focusing on what's most important (optics) and spending a little less on housing. This lens is not the best build, but it is built well. It's not a metal housing, but neither does it have a $1000+ price tag. Although, I would put its optics up against the more expensive primes. I want to comment on the angle, as well. I have the dt 50 1.8 and the dt 85 2.8. I use these now primarily for portraits. My 35 1.8 is now my general event lens based on its wider angle. The dt 35 (on an aps-c) looks near a 50mm (when using a full frame camera).

So the fast 50mm is the most popular lens when it comes to portraiture photography. But on a crop sensor camera such as mine the the 50mm lens is about 85mm and only lets me get the head and shoulders of a subject. I usually want to get the full scene of the picture which makes the 35mm perfect. Plus the 35mm is practically 50mm on the crop sensor.
Good price:
The Sony 35mm is about $100 less than the Nikon and Canon ones, plus you get a faster lens: f/1.8 compared to f/2.0 on the Canon and Nikon.
The only complaint is the lens feels kinda cheap, but the price is cheap so this is understandable and it feels no more cheap than the Canon or Nikon.

Got this for my Sony camera which i got as a gift. The lens has good aperture but takes some work to use. I'm a novice so that might be why. Overall though its good.

Lens OK, but Didn't Do What I Needed

I returned the lens...
There was nothing physically wrong with it. The price was good...and the weight is terrific.
However, I specifically needed a true wide-angle lens to photograph room interiors (real estate/rentals, etc.). This lens was no better than what I already had. It was disappointing since I do not need a wide-angle terribly often, but this was, hopefully, a good solution.
It was not in my case.
