This is my all around go to lens for everyday stuff. Most reliable and very sharp.

The good things about this lens are that it's well built, it has an electronic zoom, so that you can zoom much more smoothly during a video clip, it has a nice zoom range up to 105 mm that gives quite a bit more zoom than a standard zoom. And it's priced reasonably. Contrary to some measurement site reports, in my experience, this lens is not as sharp as the Sony Zeiss F4 16-70., and not quite as sharp as the Sony 18-200 3.5 to 6.3(the silver one). But check out the fish pix I took with it while at the aquarium with my daughter, using this lens on an A6300. And keep in mind, that for video, you are not looking for 24 megapixels of photographic sharpness. 1929x 1080 (high definition) is closer to 2 megapixels, and even 4 k is only 8 mp. so, if using with an NEX or A6000 series primarily for video it's a great choice.

The Sony 18-105mm f/4 has been one of my go-to lenses for everyday shooting. The zoom range is extremely versatile — wide enough for interiors and landscapes, with enough reach for portraits or tighter shots. Having a constant f/4 aperture across the range makes exposure consistent when zooming, which is great for video. The power zoom function is smooth and handy for controlled zoom-ins during filming, though it takes a little practice to get the speed right. Optical SteadyShot helps keep handheld footage steady, and the lens overall feels solid without being too heavy on a smaller Sony body. Image quality is sharp in the center, with some softness at the edges when wide open, but nothing unmanageable. For the price and flexibility, it’s a reliable workhorse lens, especially for run-and-gun videography or travel.

The 18-105 is a great All around lens for the APSC cameras. The fixed aperture across the entire focal range allows you to get the shots you want in Most lighting conditions. Ive taken it on plenty of trips and it is a go to lens that will allow me to caputure landscapes and portraits. F4 is great for most situations but any low light situations you will need a faster lens especially indoors. The 18-105 is generally sharp and good for most uses. If you want that tack sharp look for portraits then I would suggest a prime lens. The lens is quite heavy but built well and should be able to take some abuse. It is not weathersealed which is a bummer but for the price is a great lens to upgrade to from the kit 16-50

Took a few test shots and comparing to kit lens 16-50 this is night and day. Sharpness at F4 is satisfactory and way better than kit lens. Stepping at F7-F8 sharpness is the best. Constant F4 makes indoor shots without flash good with higher ISO (around 2000). My only concern, that it is going to drain battery faster due to Power Zoom. Zooming and focus during video are silent. Corner sharpness at F4 is way better than latest 18-135. Cons: Heavy - Will see how it is going to be handled one handed during one of the dance competition. Big - very big. Makes internal flash not usable for shots at 50mm and lower. Over 50mm you can use internal flash. I have external one.

I purchased this to replace the kit lens on my A6000. The price point isn't all that bad. It's my main go-to lens for now as I slowly add to my lens collection. I love the auto focus and OSS capability so you can get shots quick and easy. I do have one fully manual lens but I prefer this one when I travel so it's always on my camera. It's a big, beautiful lens and definitely makes my camera look more formidable and that's also a con for me. It's huge compared to my other smaller lenses and much more heavier when it's on. I've gone through several different camera bag solutions looking for one that would fit my camera with the lens on. Ultimately I went with the Thule EnRoute Escort 2 backpack with a camera bag insert which holds my 15" gaming laptop and my DJI Mavic Pro with controller. The first time I really got to see what this lens can do was on my trip to the Philippines. I'm extremely happy with the performance overall. I mainly use it for stills than video since I have other equipment for video. I have not tried it with ND filters but I will soon.

I use this to take pictures and videos of my 8yr old active son. He will also soon be getting a puppy so this lens is gonna be perfect for those shots. Very easy to use lens with my a6000, the weight of both make it feel very professional.

I was in a bad spot the day I bought this lens I was doing a shoot that consisted of 3 days of shooting and during day 1 of shooting a accident happened and boom my camera lens was broke I shot straight to Best Buy and they hooked me up with the best lens to improve the footage and quality as I was looking to invest in myself I seen it as a opportunity and the employees at Best Buy set me up for success after telling them my style of shooting and my goals I’m trying to get outta the camera ! And after a year of owning this lens and beginning my career with it it’s been a blessing that my lens broke that day

Best lens for video with the Sony a6100 in my opinion. The auto focus is amazing. Picture quality is amazing. Plus this lens gives you plenty of reach!!! The fact that the focus parts are internal makes this a great option for use with a gimbal!!!! The best all around telephoto lens for photos and videos! Definitely recommend
