I initially wanted to get an Apple mp3 player but was deterred by their exhorbitant prices; and then I saw Sony's Walkman and was sold by the aesthetically pleasing looks as well as the price. I also love the sound quality.
One minor issue I have with it is the buttons are so close together, which makes pressing the wrong button very possible; however, that can be fixed once you get used to the layout. It would be nice if the mp3's software was compatible with Macs, but I can still save songs from my Mac like I would to a flash drive, so that's not a big problem.

After owning numerous ipods i chose to stray from the fad and buy a cheap mp3 player knowing i would be replacing it as quick as i could gather the money. I bought the original sony walkman 4gb nothing special; video, picture, music. First i was thrilled when i realized i could obtain music from any source, my computer, a friends, anywhere! So you can imagine how upset i was (after owning it for a few months) when i pulled it out of the bottom of the washer after a full load cycle! i took the two screws out let it dry and prayed. The next day i plugged it in it worked! I use it when i cycle as well, i tuck it into the side of my spandex and the sweat gets in. i have thought ive ruined it at least 6 times now but just wait a day and it works. just recently i bought the 8 gb thinking the original was done for. it didnt work for a few days as i was going to through it in the trash i plugged it in for one last time, IT WORKS! I dont know whether to take the new one back or keep it! as far as the battery life; turn the brightness all the way down and dont fidgit with it that is how you get thirty hours. Charging isnt hard and who listens to music 40 hours a day? is that even possible? BUY THIS THING

Easy to load, no frills MP# player. Easy to navigate. Only complaint is pushing volume thru to car radio the volume on the Sony won't go quite high enough to compensate for the road noise. Not unacceptable though. Volume thru the ear bud is good.

the audio quality in this device is really great (that's my opinion, I'm not an audiophile), the setup was easy and so is the UI (it takes a while to get used to it after using ipods)
This device is really cheap compared to other overpriced, nicely marketed brands, but its great despite its price. No wonder why this players have oversold the ipods in japan

I was looking for a comparable replacement for a Creative Zen 8GB player, but wanted to try to do so on a budget. I started out looking for direct replacement feature-wise. I was shocked to find that the prices on these things have not really dropped much in two years. I don't personally need an expansion slot, so taking that option out really opened things up. This Sony was, by far, the best deal for the money. I did not install the software that came with it, I just drag and drop files into the appropriate folder - very easy. The battery charged in less than 2 hours. Navigation and set-up is very intuitive. When playing music, the screen shuts off automatically to maximize battery life. The mini-USB connection is great since most of my gadgets use it.

I love the Sony Walkman, it sounds great, the FM radio works well, it was easy to sync and load up and the video is clear as well. I feel it is a great value for the price. I purchased it with in store pick up and that went good as well!

The ad says the battery when fully charged should last 30 hours but it doesn't. I brought it to work and hooked it up to my little speakers and listened for full 8 hours. By 5PM there was one bar left...when I got home I listened to it...the battery went dead in less than two hours. I intend to bring it back before my 14th day "trial" is over.

I bought this great little toy just today and felt the need to post a review since I'm kind of in shock over this. For $80 I expected an average MP3 player. But after playing with it for a few hours, I'm in awe. It sounds much better than my 30g Zune that cost twice as much. The headphones that are included sound very very good compared to my $20 earbuds for my Zune. I've had it on non stop for a few hours now and the battery hasn't moved a lot. My only complaint is the bundled software is a bit too easy. It is just drag and drop software..not many features. But the player itself is AMAZING!! A need to own MP3 player

Three weeks after I bought the old 8gb E series Walkman, this new one came out and I went back and exchanged it and got some money back. I have tryed three different Video Walkmans and this one is the best and the cheapest. The Clear Bass and Clear Stereo technology makes my music sound great (replaced the junky earbuds with better ones). The only problem is that the plastic body scratches up really easy and it doesn't support MP4 videos. I use it everywhere I go. For this price (used a coupon and got it for $72), it is amazing.

Great MP3 player for the money. This player has a super long battery life, has a couple of neat shuffle features, such a shuffle all music of a certain year, shuffle all by certain artist, or shuffle all on player. The display is crisp and the functions are easy to control. Lastly I also like the built in equalizer. I think almost anyone will like this especially if you’re on a tight budget.

after reading all these bad reviews about this, i cautiously took the plunge. i run windows 7 64bit and this works like a champ. to be sure i downloaded the software update from sony, for vista and 7. absolutely no issues.
i do want to say that the shell scratches very easy. very upset about that. i took it to work one day after i bought it and it got scratched badly in my pocket.
GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR.
its a bit of a pain to get the album art on the thing but that is not sonys fault.
huge upgrade from my previous mp3 player.
i am happy with it.

Overall I think this does just as good a job as the ipod at a way lower price. Its easy to upload and automatically divides music by artist so whoever you want to listen to is right there!

There is an awesome product that I will proudly recommend as an Apple alternative to any friend. The only downsides I routinely ran into was the finickiness of this media player. If you don't convert the files to the specified format then it will just show a "File Format Not Supported" message... and that's all it did. No explanation beyond that. I had to independently search for the answer and my own solution. The second problem is that Sony uses a special usb adapter... An adapter that only they sell. Luckily I found one online.
Other than that, AWESOME Product!

I previously had the Sony Walkman until my dog bit it up. So recently I purchased the I-pod nano not knowing what I got myself into. For starters you don't need to install anything on yourr computer like I-tunes. Second, it dosen't matter where or how you get your music on there (if it's free) while on the I-pod you have to go through several steps before even getting one song. The Sony Walkman is definetly a better choice because the quality is better too. The nano's speakers are horrible while the walkman is just right. if you don't want to waste your money I highly suggest this one (or any other of it's creations).

I like it. It had all I needed, MP3 music and radio. It has video as well, but I'm not a fan of video on any small screen. This player has nice design and good price for the value.
After acquiring this Sony player I believe I-pod with $133 is grossly over-priced. I wish Sony had better bass set-up(like CD walkman had super-bass) as well a surface that is less scratchable.

I purchased this becasue I lost my Insignia MP3! It had all the things I wanted PLUS a great price! Took a little getting used to creating playlists properly but still I figured it out the first day. Would be nice to have a hard copy of the manual but I guess I can live without it. Nice sound, perfect size, great price and even an FM tuner!

Excellent battery life. You can scroll through, to make other selections, while still hearing the current song playing. I chose this since it also has FM radio, so it gives you other music options then just what you download.
I also bought a cover for this. When it is on (kinda snug) it protects very well but it makes it hard to use the buttons. if you want to push the play/pause button, it may just move, up or down, instead of play/pausing. Buttons don't light up so it doesn't help, find/use them, when in dark areas.

I purchased this walkman as an upgrade to a previous sony walkman. II got it for a great price and was able to use my best buy rewards certificate. I use the walkman while working in the lab and so far I have no complaints. I purchased accessories from Amazon for this walkman and just love it! If you are looking for something simple this will work for you.
