The Sony FE 16-25 mm F2.8 G is a full frame lens designed for Sony's E-mount camera bodies. As typical for Sony native lenses, this one is reasonably well weather-sealed. There is a dedicated aperture ring which you can select either click/ratchet rotation or smooth rotation. AF/MF switch which is located below the customizable button on the left, so it falls naturally where your thumb would rest (for a right handed grip). The hood clicks into place and doesn't jiggle. The biggest factor you'll notice is the (lack of) weight. Wide-angle with a minimum 16 mm focusing distance makes this a nice one lens option for a variety of uses. The lens also performs well in low light, so the 16-25mm range makes this a great option for Vloggers or creators filming in darker conditions, i.e. gaming streamers. Autofocus capability is superb, which is also par for the course for Sony. This lens is an ideal setup with the a7C series, as the small form factor and light weight don't completely offset the advantages of the new compact full frame bodies. Image quality is excellent, very sharp, but at the two extremes, there was some slight blurring in the corners. Overall thoughts: lightweight, sharp, quick autofocus that won't make you feel like you're missing out on the legendary Sony AF. Not a G series, but compares pretty well given the cost savings over the master series lenses. Excellent versatility for video or photos.

Great lens, but missing lens hood and end caps. If you're buying open box, be sure to do it in store and open before you leave.

I’ve always lusted after those G-master lenses and especially a wide angle zoom variety. I’m sure the GM 16-35 2.8 is incredible but at a price of around $2000+, that’s just out of my price range and hard to justify. This lens is the answer! At about half the price, this still has a max 2.8 aperture, a physical aperture ring, great image quality, all while being quite light weight. The controls are also fantastic where it has a focus mode switch to switch between auto and manual as well as a customizable focus hold button. And of course, the physical aperture ring which you can set to be clicky or be smooth depending on your taste. One thing I was not expecting was the close-up performance where it can get as close as 0.18 meters or 0.59 feet. This allows me to get close to objects while still being able to get quite a bit of background which helps create more context and shows more of the scene. The 16-35 GM II has more range which is probably the only thing that makes a notable difference for me, however you can apparently still use up to a 2X teleconverter with this lens. So you could expand the range of this lens quite a bit with a converter while having more money in your pocket vs an FE 16-35 GM II. I couldn’t be happier with the performance of this lens and the lighter, more compact nature of this lens makes it even better.

I don’t like when you zoom out the lens actually gets longer. I also don’t like that the only way to change the fstop is with the lens

Great lens. Fast focus. Highly recommend for anyone who's looking for a versatile focal length.
