When my VPL HW40ES was hit by lightning, my whole household went into a deep movie depression. We watched at least one movie, sporting event, or tv series every night on that machine. So obviously we where going to replace it with its new predecessor, the sony VPL HW45ES. The fact that it was $500 cheaper msrp was icing on the cake. Probably if I had to say the best improvement made over the 40ES is it's more believable. By that i mean the picture looks more real. The colors look more natural and images look and move more life like. It's as if your where watching a live show or game in person. Anyone who gives this projector less than 5 stars must have no knowledge of how to set up a projector, or they are just bashing sony for some other reason. This projector is defiantly a keeper, just like the 40ES was before it. Don't waste your money on the HDMI wireless adapter option unless you have no other choice. It will definitely degrade the picture quality. Always feed your projector the best possible source there is. BluRay, over the air, directv, cable, streaming in that order for the best results.

Upgraded from Epson 8350, was a pretty good starter but wanted some new features, better contrast and black levels. I was not let down by the 45es it is brighter than expected even in low lamp mode which I run predominantly. I do not have full light control and still very watchable during the day. At night the picture is as good as any tv I own including a 4k Samsung only comparing 1080p. No noticeable lag when gaming in game mode but I'm not hardcore gamer. Ran a cal really only had to drop contrast a couple point to get full scale. Only have 12hrs on the unit so will revisit but really impressed with picture quality right out of the box. It is quite I would compare fan noise to that of low rpm computer fans, can't hear it while watching a movie in all but the quietest of scenes.

I had a Sony VPL projector. I had it for about eight years. Very pleased with it. But with technology moving so fast, I started looking into getting an upgrade. I looked at $20,000, $10,000 and $4,000 projectors. 4K and 4K upscale. I swear my eyes are in great shape. I bought this for $1,999 and the next day got $200 back, because it went on sale. This projector in my home theater which is totally dark is as good as any I've seen. My projector is sitting on a shelf that is just under my ceiling and is about 14 feet from the 103" screen. Just above my first row of seating. I am thrilled with the quality of this picture. 3-D is better than at the theaters. My 26 year old son is a huge movie buff. He works in the editing business. He was watching a movie at my house and texted me "this is better than the movie theater". I agree. BlueRay and 3-D movies are spectacular!!!

When I moved into a house with the room for a theater room, I spent much time debating between a 75 inch tv or a projector true movie theater set up. Needless to say, I decided to try and save some money and just buy the surround sound equipment and go with a 75 inch tv (which I did love u til my so through a toy through it). Thanks to my son, I knew if I got another tv, I would deal with the same scenario. Best Buy came out an made a recommendation based on the budget. Best thing I have EVER done!!!! My only regret was not doing the projector originally!!!!

This projector has excellent black levels and is easy to fit into a variety of rooms. I couldn't justify the cost of a true 4K projector with HDR and different color spaces still in limbo. I decided to stick to 1080p for a few years. I mounted this on a shelf in the back of my room as I really wanted to avoid cutting into my ceiling and it was very easy to setup. Most inexpensive projectors have very strict placement requirements. Given the picture quality and flexibility I think this projector is a great option if you don't want to spend the extra money on 4K.

The projector looks very good and performs well, so far. The workmanship is good and the technicians cleaned up very well and left the room looking good. We are also happy with their programming for the remote control to access everything. Our only concern is that out current TV could not be connected to the cable. Thus to see cable we have to lower the projector screen. We will get a new TV with the appropriate connection so we may need the Geek Squad to return to connect it.

I recently purchased this model and got it professionally installed. Key is to get a high contrast Dragonfly screen. With 120" screen in my home theater, picture quality is amazing. Rich black and vivid colors makes my top choice for a projector. It is totally worth every penny compared to the cost of 4K projectors in the market. I would strongly recommend this product.

I’ve owned other Sony projectors that were cheaper in price and produced a better quality picture than this one. The one I brought home was an open box item so perhaps that had something to do with it, I’m not sure, but I was not impressed. That being said, the image is not bad either. The colors are nice, the image is clear, and if you have a screen designed for projection, it could probably bring out some better quality.

I was going back and forth between this and an Epson. Finally settled on the Sony and couldn't be happier. The picture out of the box is phenomenal and really doesn't require much calibration. I had no issues with alignment or dead pixels. This projector is plenty bright with the lights on and can get nice and dark with the lights off. I hope to keep it for a long time.

Everyone reviewed how great the setting were out of the box, it took me hours to find an semi- acceptable setting. The filters on it wash out faces like cell phones do these days, makes people look like plastic. There are pretty bad ghosting effects in high motion scenes. I would suggest picking up a different projector. I felt like I got better results from my Optima from 2010. The projector itself looks beautiful, runs quiet.

I was trying to decide between this Sony and The more expensive Epson 5040ub with a higher lumen count and HDR color capability. I was able to see both on display at Nebraska Furniture and do a side by side comparison. Save yourself the extra $700 plus, the Sony is more than bright enough and the color displayed is awesome!

Lots of good reviews on line for this projector. Lots of bad reviews for Best Buy online. Despite what the product page on Best Buys website or what the salesman may tell you, this is NOT a wireless HDMI projector. And if you buy it and they are unable to install it because you need wireless you will probably never get your money back. I am still fighting to get mine back

I had Runco projector and after 14 years I bought Sony - VPL 1080p Sxrd Projector which creates a spectacular theater experience producing an excellent color combination, lumen, brightness with clear close to the 4k movie. I have Stewart Firehawk 120" HDTV Gray screen and with this, it creates an excellent picture.

Dont waste your time with 3lcd projectors. If your going to get a projector for your theatre room, spend a lottle extra and get this. If u need to save some cash, get the benq 2050 or 3050. Dont bother with anything else. I've done my researched and did a lot of returning to come to this conclusion. DLP is the way.

This projector has a great picture and has seen a ton of use. Only complaint is that the lamp did not last anywhere close to the 6000 hour life on the low light setting. 4k's are coming down in price though. May be time for an upgrade!

Picture quality is great. While not a significant problem or distraction, after 2 mount kits and and an in-house geek squad mount appt, picture still not fitting my 100” screen from 14.5’ back. Best fit requires approx. 2’ mount below ceiling.

This projector was reasonably priced for all the bells and whistles it included. The picture is fantastic on my 4K screen and automatically adjusts image plus image looks good even if the media room light is on. My son loves to use his gaming system with this and looks amazingly real!

Have set up to view on 160 inch screen. Looks great. Easy set up. Hopefully it last longer than lasts years model though, had to get it replaced through geek squad under warranty. Red vertical lines appeared after 10 months. Replacement took longer than expected with many time delays.

I got it because it is the quietest one or there. It is way bright and had great color right or of the box. Glad I chose this over the Epson. Saved a cool grand. I will upgrade to 4k in a few years but right now I don't see the need. The picture on this is soooo good!
