Best Projector there is under $2k....PERIOD.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my VPL HW40ES was hit by lightning, my whole household went into a deep movie depression. We watched at least one movie, sporting event, or tv series every night on that machine. So obviously we where going to replace it with its new predecessor, the sony VPL HW45ES. The fact that it was $500 cheaper msrp was icing on the cake. Probably if I had to say the best improvement made over the 40ES is it's more believable. By that i mean the picture looks more real. The colors look more natural and images look and move more life like. It's as if your where watching a live show or game in person. Anyone who gives this projector less than 5 stars must have no knowledge of how to set up a projector, or they are just bashing sony for some other reason. This projector is defiantly a keeper, just like the 40ES was before it. Don't waste your money on the HDMI wireless adapter option unless you have no other choice. It will definitely degrade the picture quality. Always feed your projector the best possible source there is. BluRay, over the air, directv, cable, streaming in that order for the best results.

What a Difference, Sony is a Sony
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow! Ok, the very first thing I did was look for UHD and 4K movies. I linked the projector to my apple tv and made the adjustments on the Lenses. Then you instantly see the clarity of the picture. The smooth movement and detailed images of the scenes. I was very impressed. I had an epson, it has officially been replaced by this Sony projector: it really is a cinema projector. I mounted it on ceiling and looks good. Very pleased with this purchase, I can see we will put put this to great use on fight nights, movie nights and game nights. The only downside is the Manual adjustment on the lenses, other than that it’s perfect. Once you find the perfect picture with the adjustable lens, you set it and forget it. Finding the perfect fit for my projector screen was a bit of a pain, but I managed to get it right. Very happy with purchase. It is missing a lense cover, but I will reach out to Sony about that later.

Sony VPL45ES excellent Addition to theater
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an Epson 5040UB go down after 5 years and had to send it in for repairs. I saw they had the Sony VPL45 ES open box in one of the magnolia room. I went in and bought the unit for $588.00 and brought it home it is a very nice unit. Although not a 4K projector it has incredible picture clarity and color. I will hold on to it for the price and with geek squad protection very pleased with coverage. 954 hours on the lamp.

A movie theater on the cheap
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This replaced my 75 Sony’s 4K 2016 flagship TV (priced at $4,500 back in the day), which hasn’t been used ever since. A relatively cheap 110-inch white screen from Amazon, darkening of the room, and the experience makes you forget the idea of visiting a movie theater. Although it doesn’t seem to negatively affect the picture quality (I hope), the lens has dust inside the lens (right since the purchase); that is, the dust is not on the surface but seems to be on several layers of the lens. Also, the focus needs manual adjustment EVERY day. It’s obviously a cheaply made item but the experience is still great. It’s an older technology type, which I think enabled Sony to “perfect” it in so many ways and make it affordable. It’s bright just enough, and helped me not to buy Sony’s cheapest 4K projector that has 1,500 nits, which I suspect would be a little too dim. It’s also quiet and hasn’t exhibited any issues yet.

Outstanding Projector
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first projector I've ever purchased. All of my research was online so there was no picture evaluation. I based my decision on professional and user reviews. I can tell you the glowing reviews are accurate and I'll add to them. Mine is used in a home theater so almost exclusively used for movies. It's ceiling mounted and throwing a 150" picture onto an acoustically transparent white screen. Projector is about 20' from the screen. We black out the room so not much ambient light. I set the projector to the 'low light' setting and it seems perfect. Standard DVD is fairly sharp but Blu-Rays are stunning. Redbox $2 blu ray rentals are relevant again! 4K content from Netflix is also very good. Some of that may be attributed to the upscaling Onkyo receiver its passing through. That content is not quite blu-ray quality but close. Out of the box, colors are nearly perfect and contrast is excellent. It's also virtually silent. I decked out the theater with tiered seating and an Atmos 7.2.2 Klipsch Reference speaker setup. (By the way if you're building out audio for a theater, do what I did and go BIG on the center channel. Dialog is spectacular and critical for that theater experience! I thought I overbought but its amazing). My family is always excited to watch movies now...the experience is as good as a theater, and this projector is a big reason why! Absolutely no regrets on this projector vs. a 4K. With blu ray quality video I'll never feel like I'm missing out on 4K.

Quiet, bright, great color!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got it because it is the quietest one or there. It is way bright and had great color right or of the box. Glad I chose this over the Epson. Saved a cool grand. I will upgrade to 4k in a few years but right now I don't see the need. The picture on this is soooo good!

If you're not ready for 4K but want excellent PQ
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This projector has excellent black levels and is easy to fit into a variety of rooms. I couldn't justify the cost of a true 4K projector with HDR and different color spaces still in limbo. I decided to stick to 1080p for a few years. I mounted this on a shelf in the back of my room as I really wanted to avoid cutting into my ceiling and it was very easy to setup. Most inexpensive projectors have very strict placement requirements. Given the picture quality and flexibility I think this projector is a great option if you don't want to spend the extra money on 4K.

Projector
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have set up to view on 160 inch screen. Looks great. Easy set up. Hopefully it last longer than lasts years model though, had to get it replaced through geek squad under warranty. Red vertical lines appeared after 10 months. Replacement took longer than expected with many time delays.

Easy setup and great picture right out of the box
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No adjustments needed for a beautiful picture. 3D is fantastic even if it takes a moment to switch over from 2D. Read manual closely when it comes to adjusting what used to be called "keystone", not very clear in the manual but amazing once you figure it out.

Good picture. Adjusting challenges
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture quality is great. While not a significant problem or distraction, after 2 mount kits and and an in-house geek squad mount appt, picture still not fitting my 100” screen from 14.5’ back. Best fit requires approx. 2’ mount below ceiling.

Great projector for professoal
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had Runco projector and after 14 years I bought Sony - VPL 1080p Sxrd Projector which creates a spectacular theater experience producing an excellent color combination, lumen, brightness with clear close to the 4k movie. I have Stewart Firehawk 120" HDTV Gray screen and with this, it creates an excellent picture.

Best quality for price for a projector
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This projector was reasonably priced for all the bells and whistles it included. The picture is fantastic on my 4K screen and automatically adjusts image plus image looks good even if the media room light is on.
