Great little Google speaker.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this speaker. It has sleek looks, sounds great and does everything it supposed to do. Google connectivity has been fine so far and contrary to what many people have said, the gesture controls all work perfectly. Volume, bass and overall fidelity are much better than my earlier version of the Amazon Echo. While I don't think it was worth the original retail price, it has certainly been a good value for the Best Buy deal of the day price.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker is AWESOME !! Google home voice is great . 4 stars cause it does not have the update to make phone calls and I can't figure out how to change the time to military time or 24hr display .

Instant Relaxation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I purchased this item for my son who recently moved into a very small apartment. He has an old boom box that he still enjoys using for music but it was confined to a small room and he needed to be able to access entertainment throughout the rest of his apartment. This Sony smart speaker provides quality sound for music and all the information he needs while preparing for work. It is easy to set up and convenient to use. We couldn't be happier because he is much happier.

awesome for what it is
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound quality, however can be a little difficult with ease of use. However that could also be my phone's functionality with the product. The motions to control have been mildly ineffective at times, along with connecting. Wish this could charge and go wireless as far as power source.

Thumbs Up for Volume and Speech Recognition
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not all the features yet but I am very impressed with the volume. It puts out some bass. Also, the speech recognition is very good. However, this diminishes at high volume. You would pretty much have to yell at it to pick up your voice. The music selection when "Hey Google, play music" is used is impressive. I recommend this speaker.

Google assistant with clock and great sound.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A simple to use Google assistant. I like the simple design with a clock on it but at first it took me a while to get it set-up. O ce you get the hold of it, using this device is simple and the touch on the speaker is smooth.

great speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to compare this speaker to alexa, it was on sale for $99 so I figured I would give it a try. The look and the sound are great. This speaker has a lot of sound for how small it is. It looks much like the much anticipated home pod by apple. If you are looking for a smart speaker that has great sound you cannot go wrong with this speaker.

Great Smart Speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it is a great speaker. Sounds good and the google assistant built in is great to play music and control your tv if you have a chromecast. Audio quality is great. Sometimes the top gets a little warm but not too bad. The audio control by waving your finger is a little finicky but it cool when it works right away.

Excelent for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got it for $50, I love the sound it gets really loud and it sounds really good. The only thing I didn’t like was the geasture control, it’s hard to manipulate it that way.

Yeah just MEH...A cute speaker though
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to love this and it just didn’t fulfill my needs. The sound quality was good but the setup was a bit frustrating. I didn’t like how there were no buttons to quickly change volume or turn it off if you need to. The gesture movements above it recommended didn’t always work. It didn’t always recognize my voice. It just wasn’t a good fit for me. I tried several things online to also improve my experience. Nothing made it a good fit. Sorry Sony and Google. Nice sounding speaker though for what it’s worth and it is pretty but I need more.

Doesn't work out as it described
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The white color is dirty. The Google assist response is quick, but when the music volume is over 50 it can't hear me saying 'hey google'. The gesture nearly doesn't work at all, very insensitive, only 20% of the chance it can respond to my gesture. I don't like the sound, the low beat voice is so strong, sometimes I can't hear people singing. But I am not really expected more on a $50 speaker, the Bluetooth connect fast and it can make sound, that's why I'll keep it.

Attractive, good sound, and useful AI
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony has done a great job of packaging Google Assistant functionality in a small, attractive smart speaker that delivers good sound to help justify the premium positioning vs. a standard Google Home device. The speaker comes attractively packaged with some basic setup instructions. There's a wall adaptor and a cable that plugs into the underside of the device to provide power. Fortunately no separate power "brick", which helps keep things tidy. The unit itself is attractively designed and built with a premium look and feel. Other than the chromed base and the matt finish top (which includes gesture controls), the speaker is covered with a fabric mesh. Sony claims that it is splash proof, making it safe for duty beside the kitchen sink. The digital clock which illuminates through the mesh (and can be dimmed or turned off for bedside duty) is a nice added touch. Initial setup was easy. Just power up the unit and run the Google Home app on a smartphone or tablet. I tested with a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and a Galaxy S8 Active, and in both cases they instantly recognized the device and established a connection. From there it's easy enough to have the device recognize Chromecast devices as options to output media, including Android TV's or other TV's with Chromecast capability. I tested with a Sony XBR series smart TV and it generally worked well. Sound quality from the device is impressive for the small size, and it's clear that Sony has brought their expertise to bear in making audio a priority. It's not going to compete with a home theater sound system, or a high end WiFi speaker setup, but it's more than adequate for music and talk within a medium to large kitchen area or most any bedroom. I won't try to review Google Assistant itself except to say that it's a useful AI assistant with growing support for smart home devices, media services, etc. While Google is still catching up with their competition when it comes to third party product support, it's constantly improving and we had no issues with recognition of our Wemo light switches and Samsung smart home devices. The most useful element is that it integrates with Google services such as calendars, reminders, etc. and thus works through your phone's built in systems rather than requiring a special app (especially for Android phones). It also has the ability to sync multiple Google accounts (and/or phones) and recognize your voice to know which account it should be using to check calendars, add reminders, etc. Voice training is incredible quick and easy and in our experience the recognition of individual voices has worked flawlessly. The other major strength of the assistant is the easy with which you can cast media. Unlike some other smart speakers, this device is a Chromecast target, so you can easily cast media to it without the need for Bluetooth. This also saves battery on whatever phone you're using to cast the media. The device also does a superb job casting to other devices in your home. Ask to watch YouTube videos on a certain topic or watch the news and it fires up a Chromecast connected TV and starts streaming. Very slick. There are some other nice features that Sony has included, most notably NFC for easy touch-to-pair Bluetooth functionality. Two minor negatives: 1. The shipping firmware is not the latest version. As such, we were unable to try features such as voice activated Netflix and free voice calling. In theory, the device will update itself, but in the almost three days we've had it so far, this has not happened and as far as I can tell there's no way to force an update. Google pushes updates out and given that this is a Sony device rather than a Google one, I'm not sure what the update schedule will be like. 2. The gesture controls (twirl your finder above the unit to adjust volume, for example), do not work as smoothly as I'd prefer. Just twisting a volume knob would be far easier and more precise. While the unit does recognize the gestures most of the time, there is substantial lag that makes it tough to set a specific volume level. I found it easiest to just set volume by voice command. Overall, potential update issues aside, this is a great home smart speaker that provides useful features and thoughtful touches. It's more expensive than vanilla Google Assistant devices (espcially the basic "mini" devices coming out now), but it warrants the premium with high quality look, feel, and sound.
