I was reluctant to purchase a GPS system since I can work with a map fairly well or get used to my surroundings. However that only works when I have one. I am the classic male who will not stop and ask for directions - which has been the cause of more than one argument between my wife and I. After talking about the advantages of a GPS with friends and family, I decided a GPS might be a good idea to keep me off the couch. I've always been a big fan of Sony products, but was also considering a Garmin and Magellan for this purchase. The Sony offered a lot more bang for the buck, especially after the sale price. The unit is easy to use right out of the box. I handed the Quick start guide to my wife and set it up while she read it. It was so easy, the manual was not really required. The GPS was up and running with our present position within 5 minutes. Dismount from the mounting bracket is a quick one handed operation when your desitnation is reach. The bracket worked great on our dashboard. I live on a private road that is fairly new and was not in the map software. I was able to put the street name of the nearest public street. The navigation home got me within 1/4 mile. I was subsequently able to easily add my actual home coordinates as my home location on the GPS. My only gripe... The Sony software that is used to back up and update the map software is only for Windows Operating systems. I don't know about their competitors but this can be an issue if you are running a Mac or Linux.

I really liked this unit in the store, but upon using it, I'm very frustrated and irritated at it's ineptness and poorly functioning touch screen. - Love the screen that shows all the satellites being used. Very strong at finding itself in the sky and staying alive under bridges etc. - After a few hours of working with it, the touch screen becomes very very bad at responding. Two, three, even six presses and it finally responds. - There are not enough options for route conditions. Only standard and shortest. There should be a "fastest" option, and for me, this really kills it. In reality, it re-routes you off major highways into back roads and then back on the highway 60 miles later. - They call this a professional model, but I don't see how a trucker or anyone else who relies on this day after day could be happy with it. What a dud. Sony needs to step up or step out.

Has inacurate maps, construction has been going on in my town for a little over a year and it doesnt show that road as closed. It said you have arrived at your destination about .5 miles before i got there. It also has you make extra turns , instead of going up and making a left on parkside, it says turn left of parkgrove, right on heck, then left on parkside. it also takes a while to recalculate, i would have passed 3-4 streets before it had me recalculated. Dont get me wrong, this thing has great features but the most important one is getting me where i need to go , and if it does it takes you on uneconomical paths.

it is verry easy to use , the display is big and i loved .the price is verry good for sony. you will not regret if you buy this.

So far this unit has been great. We used it to get around town to places we knew just to see how well it did. And it did great! It took us where we needed to go and compensated for us turning onto a different street than the one it wanted us to go on. Then we used it to drive to another city and we made it there with no problem. This unit was very easy for me to set up and use right away.
