I just don’t like the fact it doesn’t come with the system.. ultimately I purchased JBL 9.1 that came with the bar, rear speakers, and subwoofer all in one for less money.

I know a lot of reviews said go for the large one but this one is so much cheaper and the bass is loud enough for me. I cant even imagine how much louder the other one is. Great value for the price with this one!

But pairs up well. I didn't want a over powering boom. Just right and clean! I dislike when a sub over powers a soundbar and dialogue.

If you want to rattle your dishes, it’ll work. If you want to shake your neighbors house? Not so much. At low to upper middle loudness it performs VERY well without the punchy, jabbing shortness that is so common in smaller form factor bass tubes—they often have insufficient volume to keep up with repetitive and exceptionally deep bass. This sub only suffers mildly from this effect when it is maxed out. Otherwise, you’ll get a phenomenal enveloping bass experience at almost any other level.

Great for small homes/apartments

These Sony add-on subs are expensive! I originally wanted the SA-SW5 but for and arm and an leg, it wasn't worth it when I could built a system that sounds better than a soundbar and sub. Even at a lower price point for the SA-SW3, it was really hitting my budget. Luckily I found an open box to justify my spending the dough. Sub is paired to the A5000, not using the Sony TV as the center channel. On to the review. Nice bass output for a smaller apt/home. When enabling the external subwoofer, I believe this will disabled the soundbar's built in sub. I also noticed that the vocals on the soundbar is a lot more clearer. The sub produces clean bass, not so muddy and it adds the right amount of bass after using the AI tuning. I haven't really turn it up in a movie because during my testing, it got plenty loud. Setup is easy. Power on, hit the link button, go to the sound bar and have it search for any linkable devices. I was up and running in 5 mins. If you like your sound, I would highly recommend picking up a sub. The SW3 won't make the room shake and the glass rumble but it's a great filler sub to give you that extra ump.

Good Little Sub, Bad App/Software

Connecting this through the app didn’t really work according to the app but then based on the indicator light it the front it was connected, started to play something as a test and felt it working. More of a Bravia connect issue but still part of getting this thing to work which is why I knocked it down to 4 stars. It’s not anything crazy but adds a little bit of bass to the compatible sound bar to fill that void of no bass. If you want something that can go loud enough to rattle the house this isn’t it.

Using with sony a80j 77 oled as center channel. Probably only gripe is there are no volume controls but thats a sony software issue. Rich omni directional sub base that works well and doesn’t muddy sound. Happy with simplicity and ease of set up, my rectangular room does really allow for proper audiophile set up, so this completes a decent “system in box”

Add depth of Sound to your Sony Soundbar

Sony certainly has made an efgort to enhance the sound in (different) sized rooms amazingly clear & even my wife was happy! (She was worried that the sub would make the sound too loud & booming …!) Ots been perfect! Love it!! Makes the room the best one to watch a show, movie, sports, etc! We’ve VERY happy! Ill add that the hardest part was conbecting the sub to the sound bar. Yet Sony support over tve phone was also very good & helpful! Sony rules in this house!
