Tried to find fault with the player but as yet cannot find one. Plays my old music and movies equally well and new blue ray movies with out any audio or video issues. Upgrades all content perfectly with out any fuss. Player runs quietly with out any annoying bright lights on front panel. Would recommend to anyone in search of a high end player.

Went to Best Buy on Black Friday to buy the $99 4K player, but after talking with two different associates, decided to pay a little more for this one! Mostly for the upscaling to near 4K with blu-rays and for the processor while playing 4K movies! Bought Wonder Woman and picture on my 4K tv was incredible! And I am not a Sony lover either!

First off, let me say that this player is built like a tank. This player not only does a great job with 4K, It also upconverts to 4K. The first time I saw the picture from this player I couldn't believe how good it was. The only thing that surprised me is there is that it doesn't support Dolby Vision. It does support HDR 10 though. I haven't needed Dolby Vision because HDR 10 works very well, but It would be nice if Sony would do a firmware update and make it capable of playing Dolby Vision. There is also no display on the front, and there are limited buttons on the machine which means you need to use the remote. If you are in the market for a 4K HDR DVD player...can't go wrong with this one.

After doing quite a few research for a 4k player, it was down between the Sony or Samsung player. I decided on the Sony player and so far no issues or disappointments. I popped in Captain America 2 Civil War Blu-ray disc and the movie looked amazing. The up-scaling on the Sony player did not disappoint. Can't wait to try out a 4k movie.

This player loads fast and produces a great native 4K picture. I had a Sony 4K up-converting player, so I had the opportunity to see the difference and this player surpasses that one. Blu-ray’s and DVD’s look crystal clear. Got it on sale for $149.99 and IMO Sony leads the way in 4K. For people on the fence this is a great product.

This Sony 4K Ultra DVD player is great. It does its' job of playing high definition films to maximum quality and speed. A few things to note:it has very limited apps and you cannot download additional ones. It's a large player, so it takes up double the space than the standard Sony BluRay player.

Now that there are newer and fancier 4K players on the market with more add-ons and features, the base price of this Sony - UBP-X800 has dropped which is to the benefit of anyone that is simply looking for a 4K player and has no need of another ROKU. Sure it has some apps on there, but I have no need for it since my TCL 49S405 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) already comes with it.
The sound quality is what impressed me the most. I use Fandango Now and the improvement in sound is astounding. Some movies outside of ones where I want sound to be blasting like Blade Runner or Tron Legacy, I don't even feel the need to turn on my soundbar and am satisfied with how much the 4K player amplifies the sound. I am very pleased with the product.
Only complaints are that I can't plug my soundbar into the back of the 4K player which would have been a lot more convenient than putting it in my TV, and the lack of explanations for the options in the set up makes it a bit confusing.

This is a great blu-ray player packed with some great add ons such as netflix, hulu, and all the usual streaming services. The picture quality is excellent with a UHD movie. I currently only own one UHD movie though so I can't say much for any other movies. But it pairs great with my new 4k tv and I have no complaints about it.

BluRay was an easy setup. Not as many apps as my Samsung but I like it. I watched some youtube reviews of the Sony and Samsung. Honestly they both are high quality but I really don't see a difference in the picture. The reviews I saw said the Sony was better. I know it was cheaper-$149.99. My Samsung cost $189.99 last year.

A true 4K Ultra HD Blu Ray player. Took Sony awhile but it was worth the wait. I have the XBR65Z9D along with the HTNT5 soundbar and they all work fluently together. This player has a superb build quality and outputs the best 4K picture I've seen to date. And at only $299, it's worth the money. I'm not sure how in sync it will be with non Sony TVs or if you will experience the same fluidity as me since all of my electronics are Sony brand but I believe this is your best bet when it come to 4K players

I never knew 4K was so much better than BRD. The first movie watched has now spoiled me for life. I bundled this player with a Sony 4K UHD HDR TV and now it's like being at a theater. I have difficulty leaving my home and this gives me a big reason not to.

A great Sony product. This is an excellent 4K Blu-ray Player with Wi-Fi Streaming. This unit is paired with my Sony XBR65X930C using a Monster Ultra HD Black Platinum HDMI cable. The picture is amazing when playing DVD, Blu-ray and 4K discs. I am also able to stream movies from VUDU or Amazon, stream videos from YouTube etc.
One negative is the unit has sort of gotten hung on two occasions after loading a disc. Where it was not responding to any sort of input from the remote or the buttons on the unit. The issue was quickly resolved by unplugging the unit and then plugging it back in after 30 seconds. Otherwise, it is a great product.

I also have a Samsung K8500 4k UHD player but was having lip sync issues so when this Sony went on sale I thought i'd give it a try. Running them both connected to a JVC RS500 projector. I don't have many 4k blurays yet but picture quality of both players seems similar with UHD and regular bluray discs. I do have a large collection of sacd and dvd-audio discs and this Sony sounds very good with these discs running to my Onkyo 885 preamp via hdmi. Sound quality on the hi-rez audio formats sounds better with the hdmi Sony versus the analog multi-channel connection i use with my other player(yamaha).
I do like the user interface on the Samsung a bit better. It seems to have a bit more polish to it.
Build quality on the Sony is a good bit better than the Samsung with the Sony probably weighing 2x's more than the Sammy.
Sony remote is better also.
Samsung has USB 3.0 input and seems to be able to accept more file formats via usb vs the Sony.

I expected the picture quality, but not the upscaling which improves DVD and 1080P picture quality. On power up I get all the apps as well like Netflix, Hulu and Pandora. Must agree with many comments that the availability of 4K is very limited. But, my existing stuff looks better on the 4K TV with this 4K Player!

I have only had it one day, but the quality is something else, It actually has some weight to the unit, Picture quality is great, set up easy, wish I had an HDR 4K tv, but my samsung is one year prior to the HDR sets. I have had issues with my xbox one s playing videos properly, so i bought this unit, very happy.

I'll be honest, I had high hopes for this. It plays 4K movies amazingly well, is well built and upscales Blu Rays well. But.. put in an old DVD disc that it doesn't like and it will freeze up like Tony Romo getting blitzed. Then you have go behind your TV and physically unplug the device because the power cord isn't modular. Uggh..

I had the Samsung 8500 before this but with the purchase of a Sony 85D TV I wanted to incorporate the Sony 4K player as well, what a major upgrade it gave all my movies even regular movies before blu rays. The quality of the player is above the other I had before, happy with my purchase, I now watch Vudu and Netflix thorough the player as well, due to the vivid and crisp colors and 4K quality enhanced, better than the ones in the tv itself since it's in 1080i My only negative is it only has a couple of apps built in, hopefully Sony will offer more later with software updates, all in all it's a great player and worth the price. I also added the cinnamon audio quest HDMI to make the audio and visual even more amazing.

While I know that in a year or two, these players will be dirt cheap and the norm for most households that aren't solely streaming media, I'm still happy that the price I paid was respectable for a machine that does more than just plays discs. The streaming apps are reliable and I do like the option of being able to go wired or wireless. In comparison, the WiFi held up against its wired counterpart with seemingly no data loss or buffering issues whatsoever. The audio and video output is likely the best out there amongst all the players on the market. I know the price will drop significantly as is the case for pretty much all technology, but at least as a doorbuster deal around the holidays, I'm much happier than I would have been having paid full price. My only complaint, and maybe because I skipped the manual, the display said this has access to 300+ apps...I think there are maybe 6 I've actually been able to access and use. Not sure why the discrepancy is there, but it handles the majority of what I'm looking for.

Hooked it up today. Works just fine . Larger footprint than the Sony 3D player it replaced , but that worked out well , in my setup . Didn’t have time today to really test it out , but what I saw impressed me.
If you’re in the market for a 4K DVD player , I think this Sony will serve you well.
