This unit has functioned well on the two 4K movies that I have played. The video and audio quality have been good and it has been easy to operate. I was prompted to download a software update, which went well.

Bought it for 200.00 and after a few days the price dropped to a 150.00. Went back to the store and requested for a price adjustment and i got the price that i want. Thanks best buy! Best price! All i can say is these player is stunning! The build quality is like a tank! Picture quality is the best! The high resolution audio is amazing! I was using my PS3 for bluray movies for 4 years and replaced it with the ubp-x800 and the difference is like night and day. Best for home theater.

Easy to set up. My movie experience has never been better. Sound and picture quality are unsurpassed. Only complaint is that dodgy special effects look even worse. That’s an issue with 4K in general though

I connected the player to my TV and it works! The Image is very clear and detailed, even on a DVD! The available pre-set programs such as Netlix, Vudu etc. are easily accessed on the main start screen. The only criticism is that it does not provide free form internet connection, just the service providers it supports. Info for others - I have an LG 4k TV and an Amazon Fire stick, I discovered when watching the Blue Ray, that I must set my Amazon Fire Stick to sleep mode to avoid the TV jumping back to Amazon at odd times. INFO only NOT a criticism of the Sony Player.

This is my first UHD blu-ray player. I highly recommend it as its fast and has great picture quality. There is a thread over at avsforum that details everything this player is capable of. It is able to play all my videos in various formats when attaching an external usb 3.0 4TB harddrive. Not only does it playback my videos on my hard drive, I am able to get DTS-HD master audio and Dolby TruHD as well. I've had some funkiness when connecting audio 2 out to my older pioneer receiver. I don't get video through hdmi out 1 > tv and audio through hdmi out 2 > receiver at the same time unless I disconnect my video out cable on the receiver. This has something to do with my receiver though and not the player itself. Throwing this out there in case someone else runs into this problem. I haven't found the right setting yet.

Can't find a single negative about this unit. Picture quality is better than my Samsung and it's super easy to setup. I like it so much that I'm thinking of buying a second one for my bedroom system.

This was an unexpected purchase I was not planning on buying a 4k DVD player but this has been amazing. Great picture and deep blacks on my Sony TV. Definitely recommend if you have a quality 4k TV

This is my first 4k Blu-ray player & goes with new Sony xbr900d 4k tv. Between both my first 4k disk looks exceptional. Hate Sony Corp but unfortunately they make the best electronics. I'm hooked.

At 50% Off MSRP for Black Friday, this was a deal not to pass up. Is it worth $299.99? Probably, but $149.99 is definitely a great value compared to the rest of the field in that price bracket. This model is the one under the Sony UBP-X1000ES 4K Blu-ray player which retails for $699.99. Same metal chassis, so very durable and has weight. Vibration noise is minimal when spinning up Blu-ray discs. That alone is amazing since most models at this price-point are noisy as all can be. Not fond of the Coax-Digital out, could have had the TOSLink connector instead, which the higher priced model has. Look for specials on this model as I am sure by end of next year, it'll be at 50%+ off of retail.

This is a nice player with better build quality than comparable 4k disc players. The performance on 4k discs is excellent but there could be some more 4k streaming options available such as Vudu. Also there is no display, which I think is an annoying trend in disc players.

We opted for this 4K player over the LG & Samsung units. Great features and happy with our purchase. If your going 4K, don’t skimp out and go cheap. Buy the quality unit that will not disappoint.

Great construction and great design. I just upgraded to a 4K hdr tv and purchased a uhd movie to go along with it. It looks AMAZING. Easy setup and interface. Does exactly what I needed it to.

I LOVE my new 4K BluRay player! I was waiting for Sony to come out with a 4K player and was excited when they did and it garnered rave reviews from many consumer oriented companies. The product was delivered early and arrived in excellent condition. I hooked up the player easily by simply attaching the HDMI cable to the TV and plugging the player in. Set up was a breeze, without even referring to the instruction manual. There are many features that I haven't tapped into yet and will read the manual to do so. I have a Sony TV too so the two pieces of equipment synched and work beautifully together. The picture is gorgeous and sound wonderful. I can't wait to watch more movies!

Typical Sony product...awesome. The picture is impeccable. Deep blacks, colors that jump. Easy to set up, intuitive to use. Loads faster than my old Blu Ray player. VERY satisfied with purchase.

After being completely underwhelmed by the Samsung 4K Blu Ray DVD player I purchased earlier in the year, this was a welcome addition to my system. Much better picture, sound and build quality! Weighs three times as much as the Samsung. I haven't utilized the hi-res ability, but I have watched several 4K movies and streamed 4K content from Netflix with no drama. The Samsung made god awful noises when playing 4K DVDs and paused a lot and blanked out completely. The Sony hasn't made a single strange noise or hesitated once. I recommend.

The difference is clear, I went from a Samsung 4K upscaler to the Sony 4K player. I watched some of my favorite movies all over again to see if I noticed any difference when I first got the set up. Although it's not a mind boggling amount of a difference, you are certainly seeing details that u weren't before. Now being that I upgraded from a non HDR 4K TV to a TV with HDR, maybe some of the improvement has to do with that as well I'm sure. Overall though the Sony 4K player does great with DVD's and regular Blu-rays as well. Now it did a funny picture jump 1 time but I haven't seen another since, so top that off with a Black Friday sale and you have a happy critic.

Reviewed many 4k blu ray players and found that this is by far the best one for the cost. To get this at around $150 you can;t find anything else that comes close. It does an amazing job!!

First off, the construction of this unit is incredibly good! The housing is constructed of a heavy gauge sheet metal which isn't found very often these days. I purchased this unit for its 4K and 3D Blu-ray upscaling capabilities. The discs are read quickly and playback is prompt. The unit has one green LED to indicate whether the unit is on or off - it does not have a front display like many other players. The lack of front display is compensated by the on-screen displays provided by the unit. The unit has a limited number of available streaming apps. With firmware updates, the selection has increased, but would like to see a wider selection made available using an "app store" or "smart hub" application.

Works like any Blu ray player would just that this is 4K and you can definitely tell the video quality is amazing. My only gripe is that we are back to big and bulky players. Besides that very good 4K player can also stream 4K Netflix, Youtube and other apps.
