As you move up the line of quality TV's you must move up DVD players too. Sony DVD players have always been a reliable product in my experience. This one continues the experience.

I purchased this DVD player for my living Room it was small and compact and had great reviews. When I Installed it in the house I realized.my 2 sets of JBL earphone's, Would not work with it It is only one set at a time and turns the TV volume off so the people that are watching the movie and aren't hard-of-hearing cannot hear it I researched it and it does say that you can do it however it does not specify how many headsets can be used I called Sony and they were very unhelpful I called Best Buy is Geek Squad and it was the same thing they were also very unhelpful if you are looking for a plane Jane DVD player then this is it is not hard to use or The remote is not difficult it is small and compact. However if you are looking to do more of the movie theater experience it will not give you that I would not buy it again I replaced it with a cheaper version different brand and it absolutely works wonderful, except for the door constantly get stuck

I've had the Sony UBPX700 for 18 months. It currently will not play a dvd, or any of the installed apps. I get an error message "A new software version is available. Please go to the "Setup" section of the menu and select "Software Update" to perform the update." I am unable to do that, I cannot select "Software Update", I can't move the cursor to that button. Any ideas on how to fix this? Before I had this problem I would have rated this player with 5 stars, now I can only give it 1 star.

I picked this up for a little over $150.00. I had just purchased a 4k projector and needed something to stream on and to watch UHD discs. Positive: Beautiful picture. Price was great for a Sony UHD player. Films look beautiful. It streams well, usually. Biggest positive is you can run an older audio system through a separate HDMI. Without that separate audio out, I wouldn't have been able to use my Yamaha surround system. My receiver is only about four years old, but was purchased before HDCP was ubiquitous. If you have an older receiver, you understand how important the extra audio out is. My audio and video are not downgraded like in other setups. Negatives: From the day I purchased it, the Ethernet connection didn't work. It is in the same room with my gateway and it couldn't connect to the box for some reason. I wanted the hard connection for the best streaming and it simply didn't work. I was able to make internet work via WiFi, but it has lost signal multiple times and had to be reset once. None of my other devices in the same room, including Amazon Fire TV and two laptops, have ever had the same issue. Also, the remote. The remote itself isn't terrible, but it has had a weird lag before and it seems to eat batteries. I purchased this two weeks ago and I've changed the batteries twice. I used up the initial battery and then had to use some from my other remote briefly before it drained them too. The light at the end of the remote that shows it is being used doesn't light up when a button is punched either, no idea why. Overall: One of the better and cheaper options if you want a streaming center and to watch 4k discs, but not without problems. The biggest plus is the separate HDMI audio out and the picture from 4k discs.

This is a great 4K player for the price. If you've owned any of the Sony BD series, this one has the same easy set up options. The menu settings right out the box give a stunning picture paired with any HD or 4K TV. The Dolby Vision setting is only if you have a compatible receiver. It's not really needed if you have Dolby True HD since most 4K movies will have both audio options. Anyway, great player. It upscales all standard blu ray movies to 4K as well.

Update came out today. So I bought it! Updated the software and was good to go. Time to watch all my Dolby Vision movies! Audio is cleaner than my Xbox one S Dolby Atmos. Star Wars the last Jedi was the reason for my upgrade. I have a Sony 4K hdr tv x930e, Sony 4K receiver with Dolby vision, Dolby Atmos and dts X.

I don't have the greatest home theater setup but I do love watching movies on 4K discs (as opposed to streaming movies in 4K), so I opted to spend just a bit of money on this 4K disc player. It works well enough for the price I paid for. The setup was simple, movies look great, and it interfaces with my older (2016) Sony 4K TV well enough to use some of its quality of life features (Ie. Automatically switching the input when the 4K player starts playing as disc). However, the player would sometimes choke causing the picture and sound to stutter. The stuttering goes away after a few seconds most of the time, but sometimes it can last for a few minutes. In worst cases, the player would shut itself off completely. There's no rhyme or reason to it. The disc is clean, the player is clean, and its firmware is up to date. The issue seems to happen randomly without any warning nor pattern. All in all, I'm happy enough with the purchase given its list of features (Dolby Vision and HDR 10 in particular) and it's not super expensive, but I hesitate to really recommend this model to others due to the sporadic stuttering issue.

I have an oppo 203, wanted a decent new inexpensive backup player. I tried the lg90 which worked great out of the box than started having many issues. I was getting ready to return it when I saw the Sony x700 received the dv update. Having had quite a few issues with a couple Sony products including their terrible customer service. I decided to exchange the lg for the x-700. Except for the crazy option of having to go to the setup menu to turn Dolby Vision on and off it has operated flawlessly so far after 5 days of use. Just one of the great features I can now stream my Dolby Vision Atmos movies from my vudu library. There are several operating features I hope Sony will work out in the future. Pq is very good close to the oppo more so than the lg. I think other than a. Few operating confusions I definitely wold recommend this player. If not for they’ve on off issue would definitely give it5 stars. It has a small profile light weight no front display only noise when drawer opens or closes runs very quiet. Decent amount of streaming apps,Netflix dv and hdr no Atmos, prime hdr, vudu hdr, dv, Atmos, and several more. Remote a little small but typically featured Sony remote, two HDMI outputs can separate video and audio, eitherner, and coax digital no optical. It’s a keeper for me as long as no freeze ups or buffering issues start up.

You bought the fancy TV, now utilize it to its full potential. The unit itself is nice and compact. Doesn't take up much shelf space. The picture is incredible. I only own a couple Ultra HD Blu-rays but they all look stunning. The Dolby Atmos picture is beautiful. I can't wait to get some BBC Earth movies on Ultra HD. It definitely upscales your Blu-rays as well. Still not going to look as good as an Ultra HD Blu-ray, but there was a noticable difference in clarity. Set up was very easy and the remote works well. I can't speak to the function of the apps as we have a Smart TV but seems like it should work just fine. Connected very easily to my home network. I haven't gotten a chance to utilize the HD sound yet as I don't have a new receiver (that's next on the docket). All in all this was a great purchase and would highly recommend!

I actually purchased this player versus the next model up based on recommendation of the Sony representative that was in store. I really only needed a player that played 4K HDR movies and didn’t care much about interface or onboard applications (I use the TV apps for streaming). This player does just that and does it great, picture is amazing. I’ve only watched two movies on it but am looking forward to more. It has Dolby Vision which my Samsung 8000 series doesn’t have. But it does support Dolby Atmos, which is my setup. Sounds great too. Can’t go wrong for price.

Upgraded my tv last August, a 65 inch LG sk8000pua with an X Box One X. Perfectly happy with this setup until suggested videos on YouTube started popping up concerning problems with the One X as a blu ray/4k player. Started watching and after many videos and related articles, this seemed to be a valid concern. Started research into a possible stand alone player and this one kept showing up. After many glowing reviews, mostly about performance and price, I made the purchase. The most notable thing out of the box about this player is the size, smaller than most. That can be said of the remote as well. Comparably small next to my other remotes. No display on the front panel, but I can live with that. It as a plastic door that drops down as the disc tray ejects...seems a little flimsy. The amount of apps available is disappointing. Only useful ones are Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Where this player really shines is playing discs. As with all 4k devices, it takes awhile to get the settings down to your liking. Once I did with the tv and this player, the difference from the X Box was like night and day! Crisper picture, deeper and richer colors as well. It also upscaled content so it breathes life back into your old library. One of the points to buying this player was being Dolby Vision compatible. I've noticed that while while watching content in Dolby Vision, the color and picture seemed slightly washed out. A friend of mine who works at a major online electronics retailer explained that today's tv's aren't fully capable to reproduce the DV signal. Believe me, that's just fine because HDR-10 works just as well, in my opinion. Don't shy away from checking to see if this player is available on open box. I got mine for $120 and I consider that a steal. I would highly recommend this player, especially if you are using a console for streaming or watching content on discs...you will not be disappointed!
