Sony makes solid blu-ray players, but one of the problems I had with my last blu-ray player was how long it took to load. But not with this model. It is much faster. It also has a better interface for apps, although I have plenty of other devices with apps, so I haven't used them on my blu-ray player as much, but looks like it has plenty to choose from.

So I bought this because I needed a DVD player and figured what's the point if I don't upgrade to Blu-ray the streaming capabilities are phenomenal and my DVDs look fantastic I've only had a chance to watch a couple of Blu-rays as I'm still building up my library but it's everything I had hoped it would be highly recommended

I brought a Samsung WiFi BluRay player but after using it for 4 hours it froze up 2 times. I had to unplug it to reset it, so I took it back and got this one. I am glad that I did. I HAVE USED THIS SONY PLAYER FOR 8 STRAIGHT HOURS WATCHING NETFLIX AND IT NEVER FROZE UP. So for me this is a nice player!

WiFi Problems Noted On Other Sites Do Not Buy

Purchased this in December of 2016. 3 months later, and there are daily problems with WiFi connectivity when using streaming media. I purchased this because we wanted to watch Netflix on our TV instead of our computer and we also wanted a Blue-ray player. I only checked the reviews on Best Buy but if you check around the internet about the wireless problems with this product, you'll see that the problem is widespread. There are intermittent buffering problems when watching any show, it either pauses for 30sec numerous times making it unpleasant to watch or doesn't connect at all. I've tried everything that Sony suggests to try and fix the problem, sometimes the solutions work for a short time but then it doesn't work again. Sometimes it won't work at all. I tested our WiFi in our home using an old Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and have no WiFi problems. I have the laptop in the same room as our TV that has the Sony BDP-S3700. I can watch Netflix, YouTube, etc wirelessly on the Dell laptop with no issues at all. Another thing you should know is that there is an app called PlayStation Now that will be discontinued on all Sony products. So, if you're thinking of buying this player for that app, you won't be able to use it in a couple of months. The same goes for other Sony products that have the app. Check the Sony website to see when the app will be cancelled for specific Sony products. Don't waste your time with The Sony BDP-S3700. How can my 10 year old laptop have no problems connecting wirelessly but this 3 month old Sony streaming media player have problems?

Bought this to replace a Bluray player that died. Thought I had a good deal until I hooked it up. Remote is terrible. Would not turn player on or off even with fresh batteries. Could not get home screen to come on. Only buttons that worked on the remote were the input button and the volume. Had to get up to turn player on or off. Player just would not function. Going to return and try a different brand.

    Doesn’t Work!

This is the second of this model we have bought for our son in his room. We replaced the last one with the same model. Big mistake from the start of the first one he got for Xmas 2017 every night you have to unplug it and plug back in to get the remote to work, if you are lucky you will only have to do this once. The remote will not work unless you unplug and plug back in. Even then we would spend at least 10 minutes a night trying to get it to play a disc. Was never even used for streaming. When we spent an hour one night trying to get to to work we decided to just get a new one. The reason we got the same model because the first was bought on Black Friday and we were told by a Best Buy employee Black Friday models are sold cheaper because they are made more of plastic. The new second model has all the same problems and now after owning it for 1 week the remote will not even work to turn on the player. The load time on both units is a ridiculous takes 2-3 min before you can even use the remote to make a selection. Will never buy Sony again.

    Disappointed

I recently cracked both elbows and have to take it easy. Wanting to watch my favorite YouTube channel, Crazy Lake, on my big screen so that the background of his property shows up better than it does on my phone, I did some research and came up with this Sony. A friend drove me to Best Buy to get the Sony; they were out and had to order it. It took a week. Finally, it comes in. Hook up was easy. I figure out how to get to YouTube- easy. Did it want to play? Not really. I re-did the whole internet hookup. Okay, got to watch a whole video through. And that was the only time a video on YouTube has played for more than 3 minutes. And the videos are blurry. They look great on my phone, but are blurry on the tv. Desperate, I put in a disk- it looked and played great. Other apps on this player barely work. This is the biggest disappointment I have had in months! I have been soooo looking forward to watching Crazy Lake and seeing once and for all what is going on back in the forest behind his home. Is this player a lemon? Btw, the remote is very small and you need good eyes to see the buttons, and small fingers to push them- the buttons are crammed very close together. I hate it. Have I been led down the primrose path and paid way too much for a piece of plastic that is no better than my good, semi-solid Blu-ray player? It sure seems that way. Sony, either drop the price or quit having your products made in China.

I bought my blu-ray player for the first time a couple months ago and was excited because it had everything I wanted. I used it for three weeks or so and then it wouldn't work. It needed to update and wouldn't update via the Internet or a USB port. So I contacted sony and they began to explain that the software is bad. They replaced it with a new one, no charge to me. I have used my new player for a week and now I am having a different issue. It won't go beyond the load screen. I can't check if it needs and update or not because the remote is not connecting either. I'm really bummed.

HI Christine, We are sorry to hear your experience. We suggest performing a power reset on your player. Turn off the player, remove all connected devices and unplug the AC power cord. Wait for at least 5 seconds then plug in the AC cord directly into the wall outlet. Turn it on again. Regards, Vincent sony_US

Bought this after returning another brand that wouldn't connect to my wi-fi router; knew the signal was strong because my notebook will connect at my neighbor's. This one was a breeze to set up & works perfectly. Also like the compact footprint.

    1 Star is the Maximum

Remember the days when you bought something, took it home, hooked it up and it began working. For some time now, it's been chic for manufacturers to sell "cripple ware" meaning that the commodity you bought won't work out of the box. In this case, the device has NO cabling. It's not just the added expense, it's the problem of living in a rural area, driving home and realizing your device won't work because the manufacturer decided to cheap out. I got used to seeing "batteries not included" in reasonably-sized letters. So, you had to buy batteries before you left the store. This item needed to at LEAST show "CABLING NOT INCLUDED" so I could have picked up a HDMI cable at the same time. I studied the box at home for five full minutes, noticed the multi-language print contained 14 different print sizes and fonts, but never saw anything that mentioned the word "cable." And, it might be there! "HDMI" is of course mentioned. But, not that you can't use the HDMI port. It's a form of marketing fraud; to keep the price as low as possible, without the customer knowing unless he reads all the fine print BEFORE buying. If "NO CABLE" is mentioned up front, the prospective customer will mentally add $20 to the sales price and often not buy. Better to make the sale, and let the customer worry about getting it to work. Then, he only thinks he's spending $20. The clerk didn't even offer to say that the device was useless without an optional cable. But, the trickery ain't free. Anytime I get ripped off like this, I make sure I write a review ---- the only time I ALWAYS write a review. And, I give ONE star in partial payback at being a victim. That rating is richly deserved. If we all did that, I'm very certain the stores will be selling less cripple ware.

This product is absolute Garbage! I bought one from Best Buy and within 3 weeks it was frozen. Couldn't do anything with it. Of course, since it was past 15 days Best Buy referred me to Sony to handle the warranty. I returned the product and they sent another one. Within 1 week, that one is now frozen. Couldn't open the tray, get to a menu, anything. Sony would not offer a refund, only keep sending me one worthless player after another. Stay away!!!

Bear in mind this review is actually 0 stars because you need at least one. I had high hopes for this Blu ray player the Sony BDP S3700 wifi streaming. Set up was the easiest part. In trying to watch 2 different brand new dvds (right out of the package) the unit started to skip audio. Blew the dvds off and it did the same thing. Tried the streaming capabilities of Hulu plus and Netflix and much to my surprise they both skipped. I know this is not an internet speed issue because 1 why would have internet speed effect dvd playback and 2 Hulu and Netflix work perfectly fine on my XBOX 360. This is a $89.99 sale price ($119.00 regular) piece of trash and no it isn't my connection my cord is fine and it isn't the router becasuse its in the same room and its not other devices being on because no one else was using any device. I called Sony and they rattled off their script and did nothing to help me. Yesterday I returned the first one and got a second one (same model) tried it same thing happened. I will be bringing this back to the store and I will be trying the Samsung version. Also just an FYI the "instructions are a mere pamphlet and the cord is an AC adaptor practically modeled after the Sega Genesis. DON'T BUY THIS HUNK OF JUNK!
