    Be weary of this product.

Bought the player in December. It started forcing me to re-enter login information for the internet, Netflix, and Hulu. It didn't seem to want to store the usernames or passwords longer than 36-48 hours. Then, by April, it quit working all together. Every time I turned it on, it just froze on a black screen with the Blu-Ray logo. The only way to turn it off was by unplugging it, both the power and disk ejection button refused to work. Looking through some forums leads me to think that this isn't a new issue since someone posted about it in March of 2017. For the record, I never did anything more with the device then watch Netflix, Hulu, and a couple of movies. The power cord was always plugged into the wall, not an extension cord or surge protector, and it sits right next to my Wifi's router (all common things that Sony seems to like discussing when issues arise with their products). If you decide to roll the dice on this player, all I can say is good luck, and you better buy the insurance so you don't have to pay for shipping to some Sony service center.

Model gets stuck in child lock mode

This model is notorious for getting irreparably stuck in child lock mode. Tech support and internet hacks are unable to fix it. Best Buy will not help with returns after 15 days and the Sony return process takes weeks. I will not buy from this company or Best Buy again.

    Won’t Power Off!!!!!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Wish I could give Zero stars. Bought it on Sunday, just took it out of the box to test it on Wednesday, and it’s going to be returned on Thursday! All I have done is plug in the power cord to test it, and it takes over ONE MINUTE to power off when pushing the button on the box and when using the remote, with at least 10 button clicks. (Yes, I timed this.) Not responsive AT ALL!!! We live in an age where the on/off button cannot take this long! And who wants to unplug the cord every time!? My husband and I have been loyal Sony brand purchasers for decades, but my loyalty is waning. What has happened to the quality of your products over the last 10 years?! This is the 3rd DVD player in 10 years. (We take care of our electronics in our home. The DVD player before that lasted 12 years!) I’ve read enough frustrating reviews about this Blu-Ray player (BDP-S3700), I’m not even going through the hassle of connecting the box to my TV. Getting my money back and going with another brand. Very disappointed.

    Has a short life span

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Do not know if it was just an issue with Blu-Rays from Best Buy during the time I purchased this. This was my third Blu-Ray purchase I made due to failures occurring with a week of purchase. But that was across multiple brands (RCA, Toshiba, Panasonic) but this one was the only one to last me more than a week. I also purchased a second one for another bedroom TV and they were working fine when we used them. But all of a sudden both devices stopped playing movies, or just started freezing during some moment of watching a movie. Tried checking for software updates as I thought it was odd that this happened to both Blu-Rays at the same time. I have been trying to wait for it to have an update and tried watching a movie since there was not an update available. The Blu-Ray froze in the middle of the movie, I tried to push button on device and remote and no response. I unplugged device and reconnect and all I would get is a green light but it would not respond to any remote or button on device commands. At this point the device had completely failed and had to take it all apart just to be able to get back my disk from the drive player. Find it very odd how both have similar failures at the same time and now trying to make this one player continue to work it completely failed. Appears there is an issue with this unit that will limit its life span.

Prime video removed from this model

I have this model in the living room and it works flawlessly. So, when I wanted to add blu-ray to the bedroom I bought another of the same model. Much to my surprise it did not have the Amazon Prime Video App or any way to add it. After searching around I found that newer serial numbers of this player do not offer Prime Video, while the older ones still do. I would prefer to stick with Sony but I will be exchanging it for another brand for the same price rather than spending more for a Sony that currently offers Prime Video! https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00230348 Note: BDP-S1700 and BDP-S3700 players with serial numbers lower than 4000000 are not affected by this change. New BDP-S1700 and BDP-S3700 players with serial number 4000000 or higher were not sold with, and do not include, support for Prime Video.

    Worked for a while...

We bought this player at Best Buy on July 30. Starting last week, it started glitching and losing the signal to the TV. It does it on streaming and with a Blu Ray disc in it. After 2 hours on chat and the phone with Sony--crawling around behind the TV to disconnect everything and reset after reset, they will replace my defective player...BUT...I have to wait for them to send me a label, send the player back, they have to receive it THEN they will send me a replacement player. So we'll be out of commission on Netflix and any other streaming and disc playing for at least a week or two. I should have bought a Samsung

    PIECE OF JUNK

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This player is a complete waste of money. I bought it to use netflix, hulu and other web apps. When I set it up, the network setup wasn't as streamless as is should be. It wouldn't recognize my network and I had to manually input the IP information. Once I got it up and running it was fine. For 2 days. Of course, during those two days I threw away the box. After the initial 2 days it has been a nightmare. It sometimes connects to the internet, but most of the time does not. I go into the settings and I can see it is connected and everything is as it should be. But when I try and run an app it tells me "connection can not be confirmed, a network error has occurred". Then it wants me to rest the internet settings. I have done this about 15 times. Only 1 of those 15 did it fix my connection for a few hours. I have never wanted to throw an electronic device out the window like I want to with this thing. If only I had saved the box, I would not be out $80 for something that doesn't work. Save your money, buy anything other than this Sony player.

    Streaming sub-standard

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this unit to replace an older DVD player and a Roku streaming device. The first unit I bought had a faulty HDMI port so I returned it to the store and swapped it for another. The second unit worked but even after downloading the new software (mandatory) the streaming was vastly slower than the Roku with shows constantly buffering part way through or stopping altogether. I have since switched back to the Roku and have had no streaming issues. So now my Roku sits on top of the Blu Ray player and I have to switch between them as needed.

    Network Drops

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is the worst bluray I've ever had because the network keeps dropping for no reason and it doesn't have an idle automatic shut off. If you accidentally fall asleep on a movie it will not automatically cut off like my old Samsung bluray; it will just sit there and then it would freeze up so bad you can only shut it off by unplugging the power source. The wifi network always drops and even though you have an option to reset it it doesn't recognize it you have to literally factory reset the entire device including passwords and apps saved to restore it. The only reason I purchased this bluray was because Samsung's bluray power button doesn't light up when you turn it on and that is not a defect it is designed that way. By the way this is my second bluray player of this model within 8months. Thank God I bought the protection plan. On black Friday I will be going back to Samsung; I can't deal with this anymore.

I've had the player for about 6 months and it worked fine for the most part. It now is not responding to anything, remote or direct input. The factory reset does not work and the disk I had in is now stuck. I've researched to find a solution but Sony doesn't provide any kind of help, even with knowing that the thing is useless now. Do not purchase, look for another brand, this is one purchase you will regret.

    Does not work properly

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Had a Sony blu day player prior to this one that I loved, it finally got old and tired and I needed a need one! I decided to stay with the same brand because the last one had done so well, this one I had problems with from the second day I owned it. One day it will work fine, the next it won’t connect to WiFi, finally I will get it to connect and it won’t open Netflix but Hulu works, next day no Hulu but Netflix works, then it’ll work great for a week. Recently it has been opening applications properly but will not load the show. Check WiFi and it says it has a strong connection. Currently it won’t open any applications or even acknowledge that there’s a DVD in it. Only had it 2 months. Highly disappointed

We bought this played about a year and a half ago. It originally worked fine and only occasionally disconnected from the internet. Now, I have to reconnect to WIFI almost every time I turn it on. Additionally, it has become intermittent just to play a disc. Usually requires turning on & off or reinserting the disc before it decides to maybe work. If that doesn’t work, we have to disconnect the power. Today it stopped working all together. Very disappointing since we’ve had another cheaper Sony smart Blu-ray for over 5 years that still works great. Time to try another brand.

    Awful, Way Too Sensitive

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I’ve had this for a few weeks now, and desperately wish I’d kept the receipt and box. The DVDs I’ve been trying to watch are brand new, never played. But on 3 out of 4 of the DVDs, it froze. One DVD had tiny, barely noticeable scratches on the outer edge from my taking it out of the package, the other two had no scratches but a few flecks of dust on them. This thing can’t even power through that! It even freezes when you try to fast forward through the “scratched” part. And when it does freeze, you can’t do anything but force it to power off. It won’t let you skip, eject, anything. Unfortunately, terrible purchase. I’ve never seen a DVD player this sensitive, it’s ridiculous.

    Horrible product

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was so excited when I bought this Blu Ray player, however that excitement didn't last long. I've had the unit since January and have had to re enter my password for wifi and log back into all apps at least 75 times! No joke. The device will all of a sudden restart. I'll re enter my wifi password only for it to turn off again. Sometimes it's done this 4 times in a row. Incredibly frustrating! I've called Sony for a replacement because it's still covered by warranty however can't find my receipt. Best buy can't find it either (go figure). I would STRONGLY recommend against this blu ray player.

I purchased this Sony product and about every 6-8 minutes, while streaming a program from either Amazon Prime or Netflix, it gave me a black screen that lasted for 5-10 seconds. The audio would also go silent as well but at different times. I had even worse problems whenever I took it back and exchanged it for the LG -BP350!!! Solution: Buy just a cheap DVD/Blue-Ray player that does NOT have streaming Wi-Fi and then purchase an Apple TV (no... not an actual TV. The little streaming device). Problems solved! BTW... 5 Stars to Best Buy for their incredibly hassle-free return policy!

Repeated failures - avoid this model

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought one for streaming on a wired connection. Not wireless - a solid ethernet connection. Unit started stuttering and losing network connection in six months. Escalation to Sony was a horrible experience - proving that my LAN is not the problem - but they eventually agreed to replace the unit. The replacement unit started failing a few months later, in the same way. Nothing but frustration. And here's the kicker: Sony won't replace the second unit. You only get 90 days. They don't care. Told me to buy a new one. Why would I ever buy Sony again?
