So far, this is the best of the four laptops I have owned from various manufacturers. It worked great out of the box and I was able with little difficulty to set it up with 64-bit photo software quickly using existing licenses. I am very impressed by its flawless 14" HD display and its speed with the i5 processor and 4GB of DDR3 memory. Also great to have a laptop graphics card that I can calibrate for photographic use. Unless you are really looking for gaming performance, it is a great laptop for the money. Biggest negative is that I can't get it to work with my three older printers due to Windows 7 - not saying it won't work, temporarily gave up after trying the obvious. My purchase experience with Best Buy was good. Product was not available in BB stores, but I was able to see similar Sony models. Got it in two days with express shipping. I ordered Microsoft Home and Student Office - unfortunately it was shipped separately which negated the discount.

I love the speed, keyboard, features,display and the size. WHEN are designers going to wake up and get back to form follows function? Why on Earth would anyone want a shinny computer? Fashion statement? Stock in cleaning products? Yes the finish is great out of the box but scratches, fingerprints and smudges do not denote cool or stylish. Other than that it has Sony reliability and design and is a pleasure to work with. The keyboard is a little different but once you get used to it, It's hard to go back. Since I was in the market for a 14" notebook in either an I5 or I7, this machine fits the bill. Thanks to Sony for being one of the first to get such a machine to market at a reasonable price. I looked at ALL manufacturers and noted reviews and comments. The quality of the build was also a big consideration. Best Buy price and delivery were great too.

i was so excited about the computer until i found out the dvd optical drive was not installed. what a bummer. had to get a refund. now, i have to wait my turn again online to purchase another one. i will give it one more try. i would encourage you to make your recovery disks right away. that is how i found out my rewrite optical drive was not installed. it would play dvd's just wouldn't burn anything for me. i would recommend this item to a friend depending on how my next shipment came.

Overall i love this laptop, i did a lot of research and was looking for top of the line product with excellect display. I found this at best buy at an outstanding price. 100% satisfied with this purchase.

If you're looking for a powerful laptop that is quiet, does not run hot, has a great display, blu-ray support and does not break the bank then look no further. I spent days trying to find core i5 laptops with 14" screens and while I found a few, none of them were complete in terms of specs and none of them could match the resolution of the Sony. I would not hesitate to recommend this laptop to anyone who asked me. I've seen a lot of complaints about the speakers: just to add my two cents, if you've ever owned a VAIO before, this VAIO is no different. The speakers aren't great, but they aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be either. After all, they're laptop speakers what do you expect!

This is the Laptop I was looking for, it has great specs, it can be compared with some gaming laptops with a relative low power consumption. It also has a great elegant and bussiness look (black).

Best PC laptop I've ever owned. I currently own a macbook pro and i guess it's not fair to compare but it's pretty close. I really like this VAIO. Sony makes great computers and this would be my 4th one. The speakers don't bother me too much, i like the feel of the keyboard but i wish it had a back light to it. I really hate the VAIO pre-loaded software, i managed to get all of it off except for the VAIO update. I'm sure the back of the screen has protection but it seems to be all plastic. Other than that this laptop is great.

The performance of the note book is grate, the only thing I didn't like is how easy you get scratches on the top finish.

I did a lot of research before making my purchase. I just could not beat the value for the performance of this laptop. I originally wanted to buy a macbook pro, but my remix software was not compatible and the price for everything I wanted was significantly higher than what I paid for this laptop. I consider myself to pretty picky when it comes to expensive purchases, so I read the bulk of the reviews from other consumers, the bottom line is that the brand has a great reputation and you simply cannot beat the price for what your getting, not even the sony website.

I purchased this laptop 3 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It has outstanding resolution for a 14" screen. The processor is very fast and can handle multiple apps at the same time with no lagging. I wanted a laptop with portability and this one is great -- only 5 lbs. Worked great with my HD TV also. It does show fingerprints, but that's no big deal.

It's a nice VAIO laptop, it has good performance according to the price and has a nice resolution, however when I connect the computer to HDTV (1080p) playing a blu-ray I can only use until 780p trough HDMI cable. Maybe I need to setup something but the option for 1080 was disabled.

The computer is truly great value and convenient: with 14" it is good for travel but can also be used for work as a desktop (though if this is your primary goal I might recommend a slightly larger size). Battery power is decent, it lasts about 2.5 hours for me and the performance is just great. Very much worth its price!

The model is perfect for personal usage due to very reliable and flexible windows 7 and graphics are out of the world.

It's a very good laptop that I recommend to all. The price is high but the quality pays.

Its been almost a month for me to own this. Everything seems to be great but the exterior. The palm rest area seems cheap plastic. Gets finger prints. My battery doesn't fit perfectly..little loose. Sony seems to use cheap finishing to make product lighter.

This laptop is awesome but the speakers are a let down.

computer crashed on 2nd day. re-installed windows on C drive by pressing F10. worked for a day then it couldn't find windows anymore. re-installed whole system by pressing F10 again. crashed again today after working for less than 2 days. i still havn't installed anything yet to mess up the system. seems i might have gotten a bad hard disk drive. will return it to best buy tomorrow. still want to buy it though. since the specs are great for the price. too bad i got a lemon.....

I was very excited to get this new laptop. But less than 2 months later the performance has already slowed and more annoyingly, the DISPLAY CRACKED when I was opening the screen. I am very careful with my laptop and this is one of several I have had over the past 10+ years. When I called Sony regarding this problem, I got people who could barely speak English and after fighting to get my issue understood for 20 minutes was told I voided my warranty because it is a physical problem. They want me to ship my computer to their repair center to pay upwards of $600 for a computer that cost under $1000. I find it hard to believe that Sony will not cover what is clearly a product defect and am more dismayed by the rudeness of their customer service people in refusing to say anything other than that the warranty is void. SAVE YOUR MONEY - DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP.

If you're thinking of buying a VAIO, go to Best Buy and physically feel the screen frame. The old Sony VAIO had a very sturdy frame around the screen. The newer models have very flimsy frames. Because of the flimsy pliable frame, the screen is prone to crack internally when opening the laptop. I see another reviewer on here (ck1701) had the same problem. Sony will not honor its warranty on this mfg defect, and will charge you $700 to fix it. I am going to buy a desktop monitor to use with this laptop - not the ideal solution, but the performance of the laptop is good and can be used for a desktop now.
