I'm So Disappointed

These sound great for music and they are very comfortable, but those are the only positive attributes. I have been searching for nice comfortable headphones for years. All Apple earbuds hurt my ears. I went to Best Buy and asked for suggestions and these were highly recommended to me. I was so excited when I tried them out and they were actually comfortable and stayed put. I was able to make clear phone calls ONLY when I sat at my kitchen table, if I walked around, went outside, or tried them in the car, the caller could not hear anything I said over a loud crackling noise. The Sony Headset Connect app told me to update the software for the headphones to help with connectivity issues. I have spent TWO DAYS trying to update them but it reaches 50% (or less!) and then says "Software Transfer Failed." I tried chatting online with Sony only to find out that they couldn't help and I would have to call the Help number and start over because the online and phone techs are not connected. I spent HOURS on the phone with people who ranged from clueless to outright HOSTILE toward me and the problem. After complaining to a manager who seemed like he could care less, I was finally connected with a nice tech who seemed eager to help, but we had serious issues with the language barrier. I have reset my headphones, initialized them (reset factory settings), deleted the app and reloaded it, and today I exchanged them for a new pair. Guess what? SAME PROBLEM!!!!
I'm so angry and disappointed. Please do not tell me to try troubleshooting or contact the Help center because I did and received no help whatsoever. I'm taking these back a final time and getting my money back. I suggest you save your money and your sanity and stay away from Sony. I will be returning these promptly.

Great Sony Sound/Design, Mediocre Battery

I waited for the WF1000X to go on sale as I would never pay more than 180 for bluetooth no matter the quality (until battery life improves by 25%). I initially got the JayBird Freedom LE but they would not hold a charge so I returned it for these earbuds despite the many warnings.
After a week of use, I am generally pleased with the sound quality and the design, but I don't feel they justify the $200 price tag for the following reasons:
1. Battery Life: Sony is generally known for producing batteries with high endurance, but I understand with the BT and noise-cancelling, the technical limitations will prevail and cause the individual buds to use a lot of power. Hopefully, by the next iteration of this superbly designed model, battery life will have substantially increased. On the bright side, the case is compact and charges rapidly. The buds lasted for approximately 3 hours before turning off, but placing them back into the case for 15 minutes boosted the batteries for another 1 hour and 20 minutes or so, which is nice.
2. Bluetooth Connection: When I first used the earbuds, pairing was not working but after a few minutes, the units paired with my Edge S7 without incident. There is also an NFC pairing option, but I have not used it as BT worked fine. On first listen, the right bud dropped out but I switched the settings via the app and it worked nicely. I also updated the firmware to its current version and that greatly improved connection -- to date, I have not experienced loss of connection even in areas of high traffic including outdoors in New York City.
3. Codec Issues / Video Lag: This is probably a deal breaker for some users. I initially was going to return the earbuds, but after switching the settings to "Priority on Sound Quality", the lag decreased a bit and is bearable. I hope that Sony engineers can figure out a way to resolve this issue. If it is a hardware issue in subsequent models and can't be resolved by a software update, I will probably never use wireless earbuds ever.
The sound quality is very, very good and was the only quality of this otherwise well-designed product that redeemed it from being returned. Other minor issues are the fact that there is no volume control on the buds themselves, and also the blue lights blinking can be quite annoying, but this goes for all BT devices -- there should be a way to turn the blinking lights off or reduce the pulse to once every few minutes or even a low-light option. Especially in low light conditions (such as public transportation during the late evenings) or in bed at home, the blinking blue lights are very distracting.
Overall, I recommend only getting the Sony WF1000X if they are on sale or if you can obtain a discount. Ideally, this particular model will retail for $150 (or less) unless the above issues can all be resolved. I got mine after seeing last week's sale ($179.99). I truly love the design of the earbuds (please stick to this form factor!) and charging case and sound quality, but hope Sony can find a way to improve on its shortcomings in the future.

Wireless Freedom

It seems like everyone is coming out with wireless earbuds nowadays. The WF-1000x is Sony's entry into the premium earbud space. While the WF-1000x is a nice earbud set, it does have its quirks and compromises.
First off, like with most accessories, you can unlock more tweaks and settings with Sony's companion app called Headphone Connect. Usually, I automatically dock a star on a review if I have to download software to use it, but Headphone Connect unlocks enough extra functions that it's worth the space it takes up in my Utilities folder. The WF-1000x is compatible with both iOS and Android devices - but I used my iPhone 7 Plus for the purposes of this review.
From a call perspective, the Wf-1000x supports HD Voice. This is nice since many headsets don't - I realized how much I missed the clarity of HD Voice until I had to get on a conference call. Everything was crystal clear and it was nice to not be tangled up by cords while on the call. I was truly able to multitask, which was nice. From a battery stance, the WF-1000x states that it can last up to 3 hours for music playback. I didn't check the time, but I think that HD Voice uses more battery life, because I had to charge these things again and I'm not sure I got a solid 3 hours.
The case is nice, sturdy and metallic. Like most wireless earbuds, the WF-1000x's case also doubles as a recharging station for the earbuds. It comes with a standard USB cord, so you can charge both the case and the earbuds at once. It also comes with several different sizes of earbud tips to try out. The medium ones worked best for me - my wife tried the small ones, but they didn't stay in her ear.
That's my biggest gripe with the WF-1000x. From a design stance, they actually sit out further from my ear than other brands that seem to fit fine and use some vertical weight to keep them secure. There's a little rubber piece that's supposed to help keep it in your ear, but I seemed to dislodge them without really trying.
Finally, a nice additional feature, and probably the biggest selling point, is that they are noise cancelling - and that setting is customizable. You can use total noise cancellation, or let ambient sounds through. You can use the Headphone Connect app to set it to automatic, which means the earbuds will actually listen to the environment and adjust for you.
If you're in the market for some premium earbuds and don't mind ones that poke out of your ears a bit, then the WF-1000x are a great set. They're priced competitively with others in the market and also offer Google Assistant / Siri functionality. I think I'll end up using them primarily at work so that I can listen to music and hear when people are yelling my name!

These headphones sound great, stay in my ears, but just aren't up to par when you want to talk on the phone. No one could hear me if I was in a truck (I drive for a living) or outside. 2nd downside is the battery life!!! I couldn't even get threw 3 hours of the day without charging them again. They're going back:(

I Absolutely Love No Wires!!!

I wasn't sure what to expect with in-ear noise-cancellation that these Sony WF 1000x True Wireless Headphones offer. I am amazed at how well they work. First, they come with several sizes and styles of ear tips, and fitting supporters, making them customisable to even my, goofy ears. At that they fit very well without coming loose even when cutting my grass. Second with the "Headphone Connect" App from Sony, the noise cancellation works very well, adapting to your environment on the fly as it dynamically changes. The mentioned app has some preprogrammed equalizers, allowing the 6mm drivers to adjust to your listening style. The bass these little buds deliver is pretty incredible for such a small footprint. The lack of volume control onboard these earbuds is the only shortfall for this unit. It connects easily manually or with the built in NFC Chip on the case, and it maintains that connection with uninterrupted streaming capabilities, though stream ability is device dependent, I was connected to a Google Pixel 1st generation. Phone calls work, but at times it would try to adjust to ambient sound and I would miss a couple of seconds of the conversation. That's a little annoying, but turning of noise cancellation resolved that issue. Only the left earbud works during a call which isn't ideal but manageable. I absolutely love the fact that there are no wires. The specs of the device is about three hours per charge on the buds and six hours of back up charge stored in the case. I would say that this spec is accurate. These will give me the ability to stream music and podcast everywhere I go. If you're looking for the freedom of no wires, with several bonus features, these True Wireless Headphones are worth looking into.

Great Noise Cancelling!

These are easily the best headphones I’ve ever had! The noise cancelling is pretty great. They don’t have the odd look of the Apple AirPods, and they sound absolutely amazing! The complimentary free app unlocks some of the ambient features and allows you to adjust the equalizer settings.
The battery case isn’t really that bad. I found that it fit easily in my pocket or backpack. I was able to get about 4.5 hours of music playback (nonstop) with a mid level volume. The case doubles as the charger and backup battery for easy charging on the go.
I’m pretty impressed with these. If you’re looking for a great wireless pair of headphones, with noise cancelling (that works), and clear calls, this is an easy purchase.

Bought these for the noise cancelling ability and it is decent. The fit is comfortable. They are nice a light weight. I don't really use the app offered by Sony.
The battery life seems much less than what they publish. Also, there is no real warning while listening. It tells you to recharge and then shuts off, awkward if on a call or in the middle of listening to something. Also the microphone feature seems weak, too many people can't hear or have a hard time hearing me when using the voice feature.

An earbud that fit my ear comfortably!

After buying one wireless earbud, I finally went back to pick up the Sony. As soon as I opened the package the first earbud piece that came on it fit perfectly, and let me just say that does not happen often for me! It was sooooo comfortable! The overall sound of the Sony wireless earbuds are great, the app that I downloaded for it helped to attain the sound I wanted. The whole sound proof, ambient sound, and regular features was nice. Although between the soundproof and ambient sound there is only a slight difference to me, but my hearing in general is not the greatest. The 2 things I wish to change for these earbuds are:
1. I wish it lasted for more than a 3 hours between charges. I like that you have an external case to charge it and you can get a total of 9hours out of it, but sometimes 3 hours does not seem long enough when you are exercising and the music all of a sudden shuts off.
2. Sony needs to work on their phone call speakers. When I say this I am talking about if I am outside and it is a windy day, I can barely hear the person talking and vice versa. I literally was yelling because she had a hard time hearing me via the earbuds. I ended up just turning them off and talking on the phone itself, kind of a disappointment when you pay so much for ear buds.
A couple of other things I think needs to be worked on are the design and volume button. When I take a picture with these on I never knew they stuck out the way they do until I saw myself. I don’t know if I read the book on these earbuds very thoroughly but I cannot turn the volume up or down via the earbuds. I might be mistaken on that, but last I checked you can only fast forward or reverse the songs...I will check again later.
Overall I love the sound quality and the fit of these way better so I will keep them!

Now, this will have been the most I paid for a pair of earbuds, including fully wireless ones, so my hopes were high. Thankfully these things did not disappoint. Now granted, in order for you to get the full experience, you do need to download the app. Now, for some reason people don't like that and I don't understand that. It's not like the app is full of ads. It brings greater context to all of the features brought about these earbuds and allows you to monitor the battery life. Not to mention that it doesnt take that long to download anyway. But, on their own, they are great. So many options for silicone tips to keep these sealed and they are quite discreet. The ambient mode works rather well, and much like other Sony earbuds, the bass is great. Granted the battery life could be better, since it's quoted at 3 hours max, but I'm not sure if that means its the max with or without the noise cancelling, since NC does consume more battery. But, I will say that the $200 is well spent on these

Sony has been known for their great tech and their great sound. The sound on these headphones are just that, great. However, I noticed a few shortcomings that actually made me return them. There seemed to be a connectivity issue that just got annoying really fast and interrupted that great sound as the sound would just cut out in one ear as it communicated the information with the “slave” earbud. It made the experience intolerable. Also, the battery life 3 hrs is sub-par with the standard minimum of the 5 hrs you would get with other Brands. Now, call quality was also just “eh”, most of the time, I ended up just putting my phone to my ear as it just wasn’t good enough for people on the other end to hear me clearly. All in all, if you are using them to listen to music at work or on the subway, they are great. If you are looking for an all around sound and call experience go in another direction.

These are decent headphones. The sound quality is excellent, but the volume level is low. I don’t like the app to control them and it drops connection constantly. They stay in my ears a seal fairly well. I like them, but I wouldn’t buy them again.

So far these Sony headphones (earbuds) have performed well. There is an occasional disconnect between the two earpieces but this has happened so infrequently that it's not worth deducting a star from their rating. Overall sound is very good but as with most earbud type phones, getting the proper fit with the best fitting earpiece is critical. Bass response is good but not heavy as long as you have a good seal. Mids and highs are excellent. Bluetooth range is excellent. Longer battery life would be on the wish list for the next version. Overall, for me, a good purchase.

I have been looking for earbuds like these ever since I bought into that scam for Kanoa earbuds that went under. I lost $150 on that little venture, but along came so many manufacturers with their version of the same product. Sony has been a real competitor in the past several years, and this set of earbuds is proof they want to own the audio world. The only issue I have found so far is I have not figured out if I can control volume on the earbuds. I did just get them, and they sound great, but I would like to be able to control volume on them vice having to reach for my audio device to change the volume... That is why I have given these a 4 star rating. If they offered a way to control the volume on the earbuds, it would be a five star product in my opinion.

I've used sound cancelling earbuds and headphones for the last 10 to 15 years on my frequent business trips. The sound quality is amazing on these but the battery usually dies before I land on a 1 1/2 hour flight. These are the first buds I've used that actually fit in to my ears perfectly. I like to use the noise cancelling setting while in the air to block out noisy seatmates, then the ambient setting, just before we land so i can hear announcements.

Headphones fit great and have an amazing sound. Noise canceling is above normal. It uses your location to see if you are stationary or moving. I have an Iphone X and it sometimes drops connection. My big knock is the battery dies within a couple of hours. If you like great sounding music with deep bass, this setting will kill your batteries quick. The case charges them and it sucks when you are listening to stuff and it stops.
