Terrific Sounding Sony WH1000XM6 Headphones!

Arrived nicely packaged with a cloth covered case that uses a magnetic flip closure for convenience. The headphones fold up for easy transport too. Included is a USB-c charging cable and an audio cable where one end plus directly into the headphone jack and the other to your device if it has an input. I really like that feature because you aren't relying on a BT connection therefore the signal remains strong.
I already had downloaded the Sony SOUND CONNECT app as I have a couple other devices using it so getting these added was a breeze. I used my iPhone 16 Pro Max and they connected via BT immediately. They use Adaptive Sound Control to optimize the settings. The headphones also use an Ambient Sound Control which is based on actions. The app detects your actions and automatically switches how to take in the ambient sound. It's automated and does switching from Home or visiting called MY PLACES where the signal is GPS.
I tried the various functions in the app and there are so many! For my phone calls I thought the CLEAR sounded best and callers said they heard me better than whenever I used any of my other brands. Various music needed different settings but it all comes down to what sounds best to the listener. In the end I opted for STANDARD as it seems all around perfect for my needs.
They fit very comfortably too as the top headband and ear cups are nicely padded. The power button is round where the NC/AMB is an oblong switch so makes it easy to distinguish. They have six beamforming microphones for calls plus wind-noise reduction. They support Bluetooth LE, LDAC, multipoint pairing, speak-to-chat and DSSE Extreme upscaling.
I love the classy light gray color too! Not a fingerprint issue at all. The 10 band equalizer is a plus if you wish to experiment with it and utilizes 2 custom settings 1 & 2 that you can adjust where you want. Also included is an EQ gaming mode and a 360 Reality Audio upmix designed for movies.
I wore these for several hours at a time after fully charging with no pain or discomfort at all. Still have 87% battery life left. They are supposed to get about 30 hours with the ANC on and you can listen while charging.
When I used the audio cable it was great to be able to plug directly into my music mixer instead of using BT as I record music videos and when BT is utilized the sync is never right with my program so these Sony's are the perfect answer. Not only that, when proofing my songs I can hear every little thing that's amiss compared to using my wired earbuds which I honestly thought were just fine until I used the Sony's. Win-win there!
All in all I find nothing negative to report about these Sony WH1000XM6 headphones. They are very high quality, comfortable with outstanding sound and the gray color is awesome! Highly recommended!

These headphones are great. Coming from the XM4’s, it does lack a bit of bass that those headphones gave me. But something that was improved was the sound that escapes the headphones, if that makes sense. With my XM4s, at a loud volume, sometimes the music would bleed out the headphones, but with this new generation, it does a better job at keeping the sound within the ear cups.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We're so happy to hear that you are enjoying the upgrades from previous models. Don't forget to download the Sony Sound Connect App to elevate your experience even further.

If you have ever been in the market for some high-end noise cancelling headphones, you have likely seen something about the Sony WH1000XM series of headphones. They have consistently been at the top of the pack when it comes to best-in-class noise cancelling. Having owned nearly every iteration of the WH1000XM series, they have consistently improved with each version. However, one thing that wasn't quite an improvement to me in the last version (the XM5), was the lack of the ability to fold up the headphones for storage. While this may not seem like a big problem, it made the headphones, and the case take up more room when travelling. Thankfully, Sony as moved back to the folding design similar to the XM4.
- Setup -
As with previous versions, the XM6 are easy to set up. Requiring very little effort to complete. Turning on the headphones and connecting with the app makes everything seamless and very easy. It will walk you through configuring for you specific surroundings and allowing for the tweaks to suit your listening style. It also makes it easy to connect to a secondary device, which is excellent if you work in an office, like I do. I typically connect to my phone and computer. Seamlessly switching between them throughout the day.
- Features -
Like previous models, these are packed with excellent features that make the Sony an easy choice over other models. First, their noise canceling is second to none. They easily cut out the distracting sounds of the office, heavy rain from outside, or the engine noises from planes. You can comfortably keep them at a lower volume too, since you're not trying to make them louder than your surroundings. Somehow, these seem to do an even better job of noise cancelation than the XM5s as well. On top of the excellent noise canceling, they also sound amazing. The quality as I have been listening to any number of different things has been superb. Music, movies, games. They all sound excellent. Another great feature is how quickly these headphones charge. Even though the battery life is outstanding on these (I'm getting almost exactly 30 hours, just as Sony advertises), if you're in a pinch and need them for a quick listening session, you can get about 3 hours of listening time with less than 5 minutes of charging. So very useful. The audio quality while taking phone calls is excellent too. My friends haven't even noticed that I'm using headphones when talking to them. The headphones are also very comfortable. As you can imagine, working in an office, I wear headphones for most of the day. Either just listening to music, or for editing videos. Not only are they very comfortable to wear for the entire time, they also help keep me focused with the noise cancelation. They are lightweight and don't feel cumbersome to wear at all. They do feel like they are maybe tighter on the sides of my head than previous models, but not uncomfortably so. The touch controls work very well, and the new button designs are much easier to find without even thinking. The power button being a round shape, and the noise canceling being the rectangular button. The gesture to cup the right ear with your hand and hear your surroundings works so very well too. You can easily just cup the ear and hear whatever others are saying around you without needing to remove the headphones. Which is a great to keep you moving through the day and right back into the noise canceling when you're done talking.
Pros: Best-in-class noise canceling, outstanding audio quality for media and calls, very comfortable, great battery life and fast charging, excellent controls and features
Cons: There isn't much to say negatively about these headphones. They are improved in almost every way from the previous model, and far superior to nearly any other headphones on the market. They may cost a bit more, but as they say, you get what you pay for. If I were to make one nitpick, it would be that the charging cable is almost laughably short. But to be fair, you're not usually needing to use a long cable with them for charging.

A great improvement over the XM5s. My new Faves!

These new Sony WH-1000XM6s are my fourth pair of the series. I've owned the XM2, XM3, and XM5s previously. Every version has been better than the last in terms of sound quality and noise cancelling, with the XM5s being what I thought would be the unassailable peak. Sony has one upped themselves yet again in the sound/ANC department, which is frankly amazing. The real winning features for me though are what Sony brought to the comfort and portability departments.
The problem I had with the XM5s is that despite phenomenal sound, they took a step back in comfort. I'm bald now and don't have a nice cushion of hair on my head, so I'm VERY cognizant of the padding/pressure that a headphone places on your noggin! I don't care how good a pair of headphones sound if they hurt to use. The new XM6s have a wider headband with extra padding and has almost erased any pain from wearing them for hours and hours so far.
The other improvement in comfort, the new earpads, also helps with passive/active noise cancelling. One of my favorite things to do sometimes is to just relax in my recliner with my headphones on and the ANC running to provide me a small island of silence and tranquility. The XM6s almost do a good enough job without even being turned on due to these new earpads! With ANC on though, I am completely oblivious to world. Now, I haven't had a chance to travel with them, so I can't say how well they will handle engine/people noise in a vehicle but the XM5s were amazing, and I have no doubt the XM6s will be even better.
I actually didn't use my XM5s as much for travelling, not only because of the lack of padding, but also because Sony had gotten rid of the folding feature and only made it so they fold flat in a larger zip case. Now with the return of complete folding and an awesome new MAGNETIC case, these XM6s are going with me everywhere! While I do recognize that the added complexity of the folding feature does add a fail-point back into the mix, the hinge/rotation points feel very robust. The one weird thing I found about the folding feature is that now the earcups face the other direction. Previously if you took the headphones off your head and placed them down straight ahead of you the cups would turn down to have the opening down on the table. Now the earcups turn the other direction and outer control surfaces are the side that is down (you can see this in a photo I posted). I'm not sure if this is to help improve the longevity of the ear pads or for some other reason, but I'm not sure I agree with Sony's choice here. I think I'd rather this be the other way, especially since they have now made the earpads replaceable, so if that WAS the reason, it no longer would seem to be a big one.
I've run the XM6s through my EXTENSIVE testing playlist that runs everything from frequency sweeps, to binaural placement, to recordings selected for clarity/depth/purity/transparency and other features. I also have songs selected that I know like the back of my hand and can even pick out the breath being taken by a singer while using detailed cans. The sound produced by the XM6 is outstanding.
Sony says they consulted with several audio engineers to improve clarity across the spectrum, and while I'm sure they improved some things, the previous iterations were so good, it's almost impossible for me to pick out any improvement. I would think that this work went into some of the 'wizardry' of the Listening Mode feature, which can place you in a coffee house or a movie theater to change your sound stage. To me this is a bit of a lark, because I can't see anyone actually using this feature, but more to check it out to see what the software can do.
The last features I'm going to talk about are the battery life and microphone quality.
The battery life for the XM6s is claimed to be 30 hours, and I have ZERO reason to doubt this number and would bet that it is actually much longer. My testing playlist is 4 hours and 7 minutes long, and I have listened to several full albums as well and I'm still sitting at 73 percent.
Finally, the microphones on the XM6 (both for voice pick up as well as noise cancellation) are equally as good if not better than their predecessor. I've made several calls and the people on the other end said it sounded perfectly clear. The biggest problem I had with the first call is that the noise cancelling was so good that I HAD to switch to transparency mode so I could hear myself well enough! On previous versions there was enough coming through my own head and leaking in that it wasn't really needed, but here it is.
I'm over the moon with the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones and I expect to spend many hours lost in their beautiful sound or in my quiet refuge. They may be pricy, but they are worth every penny to me.

* Case: I fell in love the first time I saw these! I really love the hardshell case; it’s light, compact, and the magnetic clasp is something unique and absolutely a game changer. It makes it so easy to open and close. It’s also fun to do and saves so much time compared to a zippered case. I hope more companies learn from this type of advancement in the use of magnets. I love the feel of the woven texture on the outside and the velvety softness of the interior. I like how the headphones fold up inside to add to the compactness and extra portability of the case overall. One negative is how short the charging cable provided is, but it’s not a big deal to me.
* Headphones: First thing I noticed is how light they feel in my hands and on my head. I feel like I could wear these very comfortably for hours and hours with their pressure-free fit, although the ear cups could be a bit more cushioned. I like the matte finish exterior; it adds a premium feel but does show some oily fingerprints and residue on the ear cups. The smooth, plush synthetic leather of the widened headband is also a nice feature that adds to the comfortability of the headphones. I never had headphones that used capacitive touch on the side of the headphones before, and so far it works very well for adjusting the volume, changing tracks forward and back, using a voice assistant, or covering the hole ear cup to let in ambient sound. These touch features only work on the right side ear cup, though not both sides, but it’s not a problem for me. Another cool feature this headphone can do is automatically pause the music when you take the headphones off or remove the left ear cup off the ear. The battery is supposed to last 30 hours, which I will never need, but this is super convenient for those with long flights or who forget to charge these. For me, these have lasted a long time so far with no charge and many hours of use. It says you can get 3 hours of use for 3 minutes of charge, which is incredible. For phone calls, it has 6 built-in microphones so it can isolate your voice from background noise, and you can mute your microphone with a double press of the NC/AMB button, which you can change from the app. I didn’t have any issues with phone calls and the call was clear and nothing negative noted from the other caller. The ANC mic inside the ear cups does not bother me as I cannot feel it, but you can feel a big lump when pressing on it with them off. The sound of these seems great without messing with the equalizer at all. I messed around with different settings, but it seems the default has still been my favorite despite being a tad low and less punchy on the bass for some songs to me, but still very good. It has clear vocal mid ranges, nice overall tones, and the noise cancelling makes everything better.
* Noise Cancelling: I feel these headphones offer a very superior noise-cancelling experience from other headphones I have tried. Powered by a QN3 processor and an adaptive 12-microphone system, it really does deliver an immersive, distraction-free listening experience. I am very pleased with the overall quality of these headphones. They are well worth the investment.
* Sound Connect App: This app is full of features that can help enhance your experience with these headphones. You don’t need to download the app to use these, but it does help keep track of battery life and settings like the NC/AMB button on the side, toggling different things if you have apps like Spotify, Amazon Music, or a couple of other apps. You can connect to two different devices and see what those devices are from the app; the headphones switched to my other device quickly when trying that feature. Changing different listening modes like standard, background music, or cinema. Changing Ambient Sound Control, which helps you control how much sound you actually want to let in, which could be nice to play around with. You can change different equalizer modes or customize your own. You can Optimize Spatial Sound. You can change something called speak-to-chat, which detects your voice when you’re talking and automatically filters in ambient sound so you can talk to someone while wearing the headphones; you can change the sensitivity for the voice detection and how long it remains in ambient mode before returning to normal. There is a toggle that allows you to turn off the headphones when you take them off and aren’t used for a period of time. Head gestures are something you can toggle to nod your head to answer a phone call or shake to reject a call, which is pretty neat. The app can also be used to update software.
Overall: I highly recommend these if you’re looking for something high-end that is lightweight, good-looking, travel-friendly, and has amazing sound quality.

This is an upgrade from a pair of Beats Studio headphones I’ve been using. I have not used earlier Sony MX headphones, although I have tried other similar headphones from Apple and Bose. I am really impressed with the sound quality of these, and I think the noise cancellation is the best I’ve heard.
Exceptionally comfortable. Even though their weight is average for this style of headphones, they feel lighter on my head. They stay put and don’t jostle when I turn my head. While I’m not usually in the habit of wearing any headphones all day long, I could see putting these on and enjoying listening to them for many hours without any trouble.
Phenomenal clarity. Listening to good music should be an emotional experience, and these truly let the emotion come through. I found myself remembering details in my favorite songs that I forgot were there. Everything is crystal clear and pleasant. Bass is punchy without being overly strong, midrange and vocals are clear, and the high end is not fuzzy or distorted. I wouldn’t categorize these as reference headphones, but for casual listening they are a joy to listen to.
Along with their ability to reproduce sound with fidelity, the noise cancelation and passthrough features are impressive. While most noise cancellation I’ve heard before feels like an artificial silence, these legitimately sound like I’m in a quiet space. Similarly, passthrough literally sounds like I’m not wearing the headphones. By far the best I’ve heard.
The headphones fold up so they will fit into the included case. Usually I don’t value a custom case very highly, because I find myself just tossing the product into my regular bag along with everything else I need to carry—an extra case would just be an extra thing to carry around, adding weight and inconvenience. However, this case is particularly thin and thoughtfully designed. It protects the headphones without being bulky. It has a dedicated compartment to hold necessary cables, which many cases lack. The latching mechanism (a magnetic clasp) is sturdy and quick to operate. The look is simple and stylish. The only drawback is that while the headphones fit in the case well, there’s exactly one way that they fit. It took a few tries to learn how I needed to fold them and orient them to go in.
And that’s where I learned that the folding mechanism has a pinch point that I had to watch out for. When opening the headphones that had been folded, I found it unfortunately easy to get my skin caught in the hinge. I didn’t do any damage to myself, but I wasn’t happy about pinching myself with the hinge. This kind of design flaw definitely justifies a negative rating, but I find myself giving this product 5/5 overall anyway because the rest of the design and function really blew me away. Other than the risk of pinching, the mechanics of folding and adjusting the headphones feels sturdy and easy to use.
There’s an app to install to get at EQ settings and to customize the controls. There’s also the option to set up an account and send your location data and metrics about what you listen to to Sony. I didn’t set up an account, but someone might want to if they’re interested in integrating with Sony music apps. One interesting feature I wouldn’t use myself but some might be interested in is that the headphones and the app can detect where you are and what you’re doing to automatically change the settings accordingly. For example it can use noise cancellation if you’re sitting at your desk but switch to passthrough if you start walking around. Personally, I’d rather be in control of the settings myself, but for someone who is wearing these nonstop it could be a cool feature. The app also gives you access to listening modes that can change the sound to sound like background music in a cafe or to synthesize surround sound in a theater. Again, these are not something I’d ever use, but some people might find them nice options.

Compared to the previous version, we have the following improvements:
- more microphones
- round power button that is easier to locate by feel
- the return of the folding design
- case now has a magnetic clasp for easier access vs zip
- case is now smaller due to the folding design but still retains enough space for adapter/cables
- headphones fold flat
- easier to service earpads
In addition to this, we have the same excellent noise cancellation, fast charging via USB-C, and comfortable headband. In actual use, the main differences for me are that the sound has improved sound quality - the lows can go lower, soundstage seems wider. Additionally the noise cancellation seems to be able to go even stronger. This could be due to the new QN3 chip that these have. It could also be due to the headphone cups themselves seemingly to be slightly larger than before.
All things aside, these headphones are great - very comfortable, they sound great, have excellent noise cancellation, incredible battery life, and the same touch/swipe controls from the previous version. My other favorite feature is the app-guided EQ tuning, where you go through a multi step process while playing your music to fine tune the EQ to your liking.

Terrible band/hinges and terrible support

The headband would go sideways on my head, the hinges on the ear cups move so the headphones want to twist on my head. I got used to it and just have a specific way they work best on my head.
Today I got them out of the case and the band popped. The band then would only stay straight. It’s like it popped open, something inside the mechanism stopped holding the tension that clamps the headphones to your head. I did not drop them or do anything like that. I expected support to fix them quickly because I assume this is a relatively common problem and there’s threads online about it happening to other people. They said they don’t support hardware issues I’d have to pay. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said they all follow the same guidelines and that I should contact the literal 1 single repair place in the USA and get a quote to fix.
Sony tries to sell these as a high end item and price them accordingly, but their support makes me wonder why I paid so much for these that now don’t work after 3 months.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear about the issues you've faced with your WH-1000XM6 headphones, particularly with the headband and the support you received. THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT
This is my first pair of Sony headphones and I was quite excited to try these out. As an amateur audiophile, I have owned many pairs of headphones, from budget options, to premium wireless brands, to wired open-back designs, and everything in between. I am a big fan of over-ear headphones compared to earbuds, and if I could only own one pair, it would be a wireless pair of noise cancelling headphones suitable for many uses, and that is exactly what the XM6s deliver. These are a jack of all trade headphone (and master of many), with no real weaknesses I could find during my testing apart from some very minor nitpicks which I’ll talk about in just a bit.
From a build quality perspective, these feel nice, but I wouldn’t call them the most sturdy feeling or looking headphones. They are almost entirely plastic and soft fabric/foam, and as a result they look good but not too far removed from the XM5s or other headphones with similar designs. They are very clean looking, but they don’t set the world on fire and won’t stand out among the competition from an aesthetics perspective, which you may or may not like. What you do get with this plastic build is a very lightweight design. These are so comfortable on the head weighing only around 255 grams, that I have worn them for an entire 8 hour work day with no issue whatsoever. They also may be plastic, but they won’t feel cheap. I wouldn’t throw these around a room, but I am also not worried about them breaking if they are accidentally dropped. My only real complaint is the finish (at least in black) is a fingerprint and grease magnet. Take a good look at them when you first open the case, because they will not look that clean again.
Speaking of the case, the included hardshell case is really nice. Its compact (as the XM6s do fold), includes a pouch for charging and 3.5mm cords, and has a large carrying strap. Additionally, it closes magnetically with a simple latch, which is actually really nice for getting the headphones in and out. For an included case, it is definitely one of the better cases I have gotten with a pair of headphones, and doesn’t make me feel the need to go buy a third party one instead.
On the hardware side, for the headphones you get 30mm Neodymium drivers, 12 mics for active noise cancelling and audio passthrough, SBC AAC LDAC & LC3 support, 30-40 hours of battery life (depending on noise cancelling and other software features), and full EQ support in the app. On the sound side, these sound great out of the box (very neutral), with minimal tuning needed to achieve a great audio profile for most music tastes. You do have a full 10-band EQ control which is great, along with several EQ presets for things like gaming, heavy music, etc. I personally prefer more flat sound profiles, so the out of the box neutral preset was really good for me. What you get is a solid bass, but not overpowering, crisp highs, but not shrill, and surprisingly amazing mids with clean vocal representation. I am usually pretty picky when it comes to wireless headphones compared to open-back counterparts, but I have very little to complain about with the XM6s from an audio perspective. They sound great, and can be tuned to your liking with custom profiles if you prefer. The vocal clarity is a particular high point I will say though. I noticed it first with calls, where meetings & phone calls just sounded so crisp compared to what I am used to, but in music this also holds true, where artist vocals, particularly male vocals, have a level of depth I usually miss on headphones. Very impressed and I don’t think anyone will be disappointed with how these sound, as long as you come at them as a pair of wireless headphones primarily targeted at music streaming.
On the noise cancelling & audio passthrough side, again things are top notch. The noise cancelling is actually the best I have ever heard on a headphone, and that is saying something. Even without turning ANC on, the headphones seal sounds out really well, but ANC on takes it to another level. Even with no music it deafens the environment heavily to an almost inaudible blur and with a little music or sound it becomes complete isolation from the outside world. Thankfully, this doesn’t impact sound quality at all, and you still get a great audio presentation. I actually tend to use audio passthrough more often, just because I work in an office where I need to hear others, and this mode is also excellent and up there with the best I have used. It very naturally blends in sounds from the outside with the headphones to allow people speaking or your environment to come through, without sounding artificially loud or present. On both of these fronts, these headphones are an absolute class leader. Same goes for battery life. I have been using these for many hours a day for over a week and have only now just gotten below 45% battery. These things just go and go, despite being so lightweight and relatively slim.
On the software side, you get a lot of the Sony processing tricks. DSEE Extreme is available for audio upscaling, and you have a slew of features for the headphone system. You can have it change audio modes depending on your location and/or what you are doing, change modes if you start talking, turn off when you take the headphones off, adjust microphones depending on if you are speaking, and much more. You also get spatial audio upscaling with 360 Reality Audio if you are listening from a supported service/source, and you can calibrate the spatial audio for your head/ears as well. There is just a ton here if you like flexibility, and the best I can say is that it just works. You may not need all features, but for those that you do they are there, and they all work well.
If I could use one word to describe the XM6s, it would be versatile. They just do it all, and do it all from good (such as build quality), to great (such as audio quality), to amazing (such as ANC). Yea there are nitpicks, like the finish being a fingerprint magnet, the cheaper feeling build in some areas, the associated mobile app not always connecting to the headphones on the first try, the earpads making my ears a bit warm after a few hours of usage, etc., but overall they are just that nitpicks. None of these things would keep me from buying these, and many have workarounds or can be improved with firmware updates. I can’t think of a headphone I have used that I would recommend above these for most people. Sony really knocked it out of the park.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones are the best noise cancelling headphones yet.
Noise cancelling:
First off, these are fantastic noise cancelling headphones. They block out so much white noise. I own the past 2 versions of these Sony headphones as well (XM4 and XM5). They all did a great job at noise cancelling at the time they all came out. The issue is those headphones are still great at cancelling noise, and still available to buy for far less than these XM6 headphones today. That being said, I think phone calls do seem to have better quality than last generation XM5s.
Build quality:
The one thing I will say is that it looks like Sony addressed the previous model XM5 fragile plastic hinge design. The new hinges here have two points of articulation so they can actually fold again like the XM4s did. But on the XM6s there seems to be a metal hinge under the plastic that was not there with the XM5s. I am hoping this holds up long term, but only time will tell.
The new case design is awesome. I love the magnetic clamp. No more zippers, and because Sony went back to the foldable headphone design of the XM4s, they take less space in my backpack for trips.
Comfort:
These, like the XM5s, are super comfortable for me. Great for long flights or train bus rides! The earcups could be a little deeper maybe, but they were very comfortable for me.
Sound Connect App:
Now here is where things get interesting. I loved the way the XM4 models sounded. They had a very good bass response. With the model after that, the XM5s they used smaller drivers which delivered less bass. This new XM6 has the same sized drivers, but thankfully they do deliver a bit more bass and to my ears sound much better than the XM5s. These new XM6s also now have a brand new 10 band equalizer to really dial in your bass and treble in the app on your phone.
Connectivity:
Wireless bluetooth connectivity had no issues on 2 different Google Pixel phones, a Pixel 9 and a Pixel 8. The XM6s also come with a wired 3.5mm audio cable. USB-C connection can only be used for charging. You unfortunately can still not deliver audio connected to a phone. This is a little disappointing as you can do this even on some lower priced headphones in 2025. Not sure why Sony didn’t allow this to happen.
Phone calls:
I think the phone calls in these are definitely better than the last XM5 model. It isn’t night and day better, but it definitely improved.
The app:
You can customize a whole lot through the app for these headphones. There is listening mode that lets you choose a few options now, standard, background music and cinema. Standard is where I leave mine set, however there is the Background music setting which has a sub menu that lets you choose different “background music effects” like “my room”, “living room” or “cafe”. These assign some kind of sound profile to make your music sound like it is happening further away. I didn’t find myself really using this but it does kind of do what it says. The 3rd option is a “cinema” mode which also assigns some kind of spatial audio. I also didn’t really care for this personally.
Overall:
These are great wireless noise cancelling headphones overall. They sound great, and are fantastic for calls. I am also so glad Sony put some metal in the hinges! My only issue is these XM6 headphones are very expensive compared to even their own previous flagship noise cancelling headphones, and considering their price I also do wish they could deliver audio over USB-C like other similarly priced and even lower priced competitors have.

These headphones sound amazing, once again to change settings & customize you need the app. Hey come in a nice carrying case with a USB cable & regular headphone jack. The headband & ears are padded & are very comfortable & lightweight. I have a small head & they fit me well but slip down sometimes and after wearing them about 1/2 hour started to hurt my ears a little.
I liked the range, I walked outside & left my phone on the table & still had clear sound, no breaking up at the end of my back yard, which is over 1/2 acre. I have the sound set to hard which enhances the bass & treble & the bass really pumps in these. There is also clear & soft setting. I set my listening mode to standard , cinema mode is good too with rich, full sound. The background setting mutes it a bit. Noise cancelling or ambient sound are two settings , which can be turned off, I like them both, once again giving rich bass tones. They do cancel out noise but not so much that I couldn’t hear anything going on around me. I could hear tapping on a table.
The phone answering feature is cool, It can be set to nod to answer for yes or shake for no & it does work,The earpieces flip around .There are so many customizable settings in the app that I’m still learning them. One setting I really like was that I could switch between devices while listening. I still have an old iPod so I played one song on there & then switched seamlessly to a song on my iPhone.
Setup was quick & connected easily & so far battery charge life seems good.
There were a few minor things that I didn’t care for like the R&L emblems are on the inside & took a little to find , the power button is push & hold & the controls for volume, rewind, ff are one the right ear & everytime I adjust to fit I’m constantly touching them, they’re super sensitive. The headphone jack didn’t sound good plugged directly into the stereo, sound only in one ear, sounds way better using Bluetooth. I never was able to connect to my iPad.
If I could give them 4.5 stars I would for the little things mentioned above but otherwise they are great!

I don’t know where to start with these headphones – The ANC which is by far and noticeably better than any of my other high end headphones or the world class sound quality. These are the industry pinnacle.
I have a deep respect for Sony products, they really have been the leader in the industry since the Walkman changed the world, but I am not a “fanboy” either. So I came into the Sony WH-1000XM6 with an open mind. I knew they would be impressive, but these have truly surpassed my expectations!
- ANC – The 12 adaptive microphones really nip the noise in real time. Using the app or the button to go between ANC or passive is easy and immediate…noisy bothersome world…BOOM gone. Your ears just envelope in a peaceful quiet that brings the music full frontal. AMAZING. The passive is also spot on. Lets the world in when you need to be aware and with the 12 microphones it’s a real natural sound.
- Sound Quality – The detail on the highend digital audio files is just breathtaking. From rap to Podcasts…Just world class. It’s what you would expect from a a company like SONY. You can hear all the detail and melody from the backing tracks like never before. Really adds a lot to the music.
- Phone calls sound great. They use the AI magic to isolate my voice so calls are clear and crisp.
- Comfort- They are a little warm after a bit on the ears. The insulation traps the heat a bit. But they are very light weight and comfortable. That was a surprise just how lightweight they are. I can wear glasses with the headphones on and it doesn’t bother me a bit. The feel is luxurious and elegant and the material is premium. Everything is top end.
- Battery life – They say 30 hours. Way more than I need at one sitting… I also read that you can get 3 hours worth of charge in three minutes with a USB-PD Compatible AC adapter. It also trickle charges as you listen if you plug it in so with a portable charger….power is unlimited.
I also really love the case they provide. I feel like they borrowed a bit from the Bose headphones with the case and fold design but they took it up a few notches and do it way better. The case is a magnetic clasp for easy open and close. It packs away nicely in a backpack. It is expertly designed for the headphone and a real nice touch to keep them safe and easy to store or transport.
I also appreciate the pause feature when you take the headphones off. This is really nice for listening to podcasts!
Overall – Tremendous advance in ANC and WORLD CLASS Sound… plus all the things you would expect from the leader in the market. The perfect pair of headphones.
