    i have tried ways to use by itself, works good, but works best with its other half the transmitter, to work in the sony ecosystem.

    It looks like new Sony flash models will have this functionality built-in. But if you have current Sony flashes this is simple, well made, and easy set up quickly. I just couldn't buy the MUCH cheaper off brand units. I buy Sony for quality and want all my accessories to be of similar quality. I use this to make a living and want the best kit. Luckily price just dropped $50 from intro, so it is a bit more affordable now. I use it on an A6500 and an A7RII interchangeably with a HVL-F60M.

    I have always purchased the same brand accessories for the camera I own, it usually works best that way, this receiver works great for my in home photo studio.
