Sony XB100 Has Poor Battery Life

It is now mid-Nov 2025. The speaker will not hold a charge. Shuts off after 5 minutes. It's past the return window so I'm stuck with it. No more Sony speakers for me. They sound great. I just needed this to amplify my laptop's poor sound. So now I have to shop another brand.

Great for the price

Great sound, horrible support.

No mention of it not working on Win 11. It recognized the speaker but no sound. Known issue posts all over the internet about it.

A small but very powerful speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not easily impressed, but this Sony SRS-XB100 is a very small, and very cool speaker. And it is so small that it’s hard to imagine the sound that’s coming out of it. From a size perspective, it is 3.7” tall, 2.9” wide, and 3.4” deep, yet the bass coming out of this thing is outstanding. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since the bass has been outstanding in every SRS model I’ve owned. Still, it’s so small… Upon receipt, I plugged the speaker in to ensure a full charge. It uses (and they provide) a USB-C type cable. While charging, a small red LED appears next to the Power button indicating that it was charging. That light disappeared once charging was done. The controls sit toward the bottom-side of the speaker. They consist of the following: • Power Button • Bluetooth Button • Pause/Play • Minus (reduce volume) • Plus (increase volume) There’s a small microphone slot located directly under the Pause/Play button. Pairing the speaker to my iPhone was seamless. The speaker went into pairing mode as soon as I powered it on. I went into Settings on my phone, then Bluetooth. I then selected the SRS-XB051 device, and it was done. Very easy! With the speaker turned on and paired, I went to my music app and selected music to play. Chicago sounded outstanding. The same goes for Sammy Smith. In fact, everything I play sounds top-notch – even my Audible books. And this little speaker offers up to 16 hours of play time. Sony has documented some features of this speaker. They include but are not limited to the following: • IP67 Waterproof and Dustproof Rating. • Compatible with a second speaker for stereo sound, although the second speaker must also be an SRS-XB100. • Echo cancelling technology when paired with the microphone. • This speaker has been tested and maintains it operability when gently submersed in water to a depth of 1m and left for 30 minutes. [Note that a different article indicated a depth of 1ft. Not sure which is correct.] Note that Sony recommends not placing this speaker directly on sand. It’s not hard to rave on this speaker; it’s really that good. As such, I am giving this speaker a 5-star rating.
