So I am a Sony fan overall have everything Sony when I pre-ordered this phone through BestBuy I got the flagship headphones free! Yes it is a very tall phone but about the same as another flagship Xtra wide one as a Samsung plus series. It is nice to hold because it being thin and narrow due to the screen aspect ratio of 21:9. Now most quality movies or Netflix shows are recorded like this so that means no black bars on the sides of your phone while watching these videos so your whole screen is filled! It has the best screen on the market as well from the Bravia TVs they make. Camera is good but not up with the best. That will change with the upcoming Xperia 1 Mach ll or however you want to call it. They will have a zeiss lense coated in a special coating and have the alpha technology in it. Look it up for what it can do! Looks crazy amazing! So yes I recommend this phone for $799 it is also unlocked and can use it on most carriers. I have Verizon and been very happy

I always wanted a phone that was high end and I figured to buy the Sony Xperia 1 or for me I call it Playstation Phone. anyway I got mine in January of 2020 and as soon as touched the phone from the box I felt it was slippery because of the glass I guess, and super wide too and it has super clear 4k camera and touch screen. as for everything else its super neat and for one with beginner level experience in photography I can tell it has potential for photographers. speakers are loud and powerful. although had to turn off certain features because of how too sensetive it can be accidentally activated. and some features are not sensative enough for quick use. it also has somthing I call smart charging, it charges the battery until full and cuts off power current for the battery to last longer. it also has self diagnoisis feature and it basically fixes itself or lets you know one of the features are not working. its simple to activate too.

Nice and fast but the durbality and durability protection options are a 1 star for the phone and from it not being it very reliable in durability I have to pay 200$ to get it replaced what a terrible downside and after I already paid 900$ I have to fork out more cash. On top of this I had to go inside the best buy store for over 2 and a half hours for the geek squad to tell me I have to get the IMEI number from the box I didn't bring inside the store and then come back after to get my phone imei to be able to have it sent and replaced. After I was told that I left and literally found the IMEI withing 5 mins of looking it up because they couldn't do so and went back inside the store for them to tell me the employee I was working with is at lunch to come back later. It was a combo of a terrible phone and even worse service from the best buy geek squad that is supposed to have more answers for you when the internet runs out of them and they couldn't show any sign of this statement being true and should take that sign down that says so inside their store.

This phone is incredible in a range of different departments. It has one of the nicest cameras on the market, taking advantage of Sony's very own revolutionary camera tech. The screen is gorgeous and one of the most well designed viewing experiences ever on a smartphone. It is legitimately the first phone ever to have this kind of screen (a 21:9 4K HDR OLED display, the same display on most high end Sony TVs)
However, those are about it when it comes to what the Xperia 1 brings to the table. Sony handicapped their phone just a tad bit with the removal of the headphone jack, the lackluster battery size, and the specs it has overall. In comparison, the OnePlus 7 Pro has a 12GB RAM and their base model has 8GB, the Xperia 1 has a measly 6GB. For $950 you'd expect to get more for your buck especially since a company like OnePlus that is lesser known can price their phones cheaper and deliver more in reference to their specs.
In conclusion the Xperia 1 is still an excellent phone with a beautiful display and camera technology. The price may be the only downfall of this device as it's definitely not worth the price tag when other phones on the market are not only more powerful but cheaper, I assume that's the price you have to pay for a screen of this caliber though. At least Sony thinks so.

Takes great pics, wired/wireless headphones/earbuds sound just as good as on lg g8, 4k screen, more than enough features for days on end, stereo and quite loud speakers, etc., etc., etc. If you buy it you'll enjoy...

On the heels of the Mark ii I decided to write a review for anyone looking at this one. First and foremost it is certainly a good first forward for Sony. The OLED 4k screen is gorgeous, battery life will get you through the day with power using. Camera ranges from the best shots taken in good lighting to garbage in less than ideal conditions. Camera Software itself leaves more to be desired, particularly in the view finder's clarity and navigation for other options. It's current price makes it a wonderful device, specifically for content consumption. There are welcomed design choices along side some annoyances due to software. I didn't enjoy this as much as my S10+ on the day to day smartphone usage, but it makes up for it with its gorgeous display, audio fidelity (specifically Bluetooth). It's more wieldable in one hand, and has the best 2k display with better adjustments in its camera. You get practically the same device but with welcomed tweaks that fix the experience.

I held off buying this phone at launch with the free headphone....barely as I was very tempted. My last phone was the Sony XZ Premium and it was a fantastic device. The XZ Premium this phone got good reviews but not nearly the high praises of more broadly available phones like Samsung and Apple. It seems like this is the same situation with the Xperia 1.
Finally, I found a deal I couldn't resist and took the plunge. Using the phone for over a week I'm wondering what all the concerns were that have been mentioned. Screen is absolutely stunning, battery life is very good, and the camera is excellent as well.
Various reviewers have complained about battery size and life but Sony does a great job with the power management and battery optimizations. It's at least as good as nearly most other flagships. The 4K screen is only 4k when required so no excessive drain. Sony is very efficient with battery use and screen power management.
Another reviewer criticism is the camera. This takes amazing snaps and the video is very good. Sony went for color accuracy and photos/videos appear as you see them. The colors aren't "boosted" as some of other cameras. The camera may not be the best in every regard, however its in the conversation for one of the best as far as I'm concerned. Sony involved the Alpha team an it shows. Granted I got mine after the latest update so I can't speak about earlier software or bugs.
Finally the screen has been a complaint about outdoor visibility or battery use. This screen is amazing and looks great no matter what you're doing or where you are. It's got the be the best screens on a phone ever... I don't understand some of the lower or average ratings it gets.
Bottom line here, this is a media best, and a top flagship. The long screen is a joy to use for video or scrolling and looks amazing. The camera Is great, and the battery life is more than adequate. Thanks Sony for making such a great device!

Most manufacturers tend to give you the same thing each year with minor improvements, but I applaud companies like Sony, who not only improve, but innovate.
What makes this phone great is that it's easy to hold with the 21:9 aspect ratio and it allows you to see and view more content compared to other phones. Multi-tasking actually makes sense now. 4k HDR OLED screen is fantastic!
As a photographer I never cared for the upgrades that phones would get, but this one does do something special. It implements the same eye auto-focus that you'll find on their professional cameras and it introduces similar video features that you would find in their cinema line of cameras!

Got this on sale and it's been amazing. The camera is on par with the other flagship phones I've used and I actually think the photos look more "alive" and camera-like. People complained about the small battery but I have not had any issues going through the entire day. I actually turned out to like the 21:9 ratio, now when I go back to use 16:9 or 18:9 phones they seems so fat. And best of all the purple color looks amazing!!!!

Sorry Xperia 1 has the best display in 4k hdr on Oled. The smartphone is the best in the world for watching 4k movies in a 21:9 cinematic format. The smartphone is also great for playing 4k games with its high processing speed and also it is great for multiviewing apps in 2 windows due to its tall feature, overall it is a great smartphone

This phone should be getting more praise for what it's capable of. It's amazingly fast, great camera and the screen is just beautiful. No over saturated colors. Sony went for a more natural color tone and 4K HDR videos are amazingly detailed. Gaming is smooth with no hiccups at all. In a world where Apple and Samsung are the top marketed phones, amazing phones like this get overlooked. I highly recommend this phone!

I was a concern about the design of this phone, untill I actually held it with my own hands. The phone feels very comfortable and no matter what you are using it for, it's always very fast. The camera is the only slugish app to start. The picture quality is amazing. Gaming is better here for fortnight vs my switch. I love this phone. Is very well built with higher quality in mind.

I have been waiting to get this Sony Xperia 1 for months now and was finally able to pick it up a couple of days ago. As I always say, Sony never disappoints with the phones and this one is kickass!
Camera is the sharpest I've ever seen, the screen is top-notch smooth and just the right sensitivity along with the format makes it just perfect.

This phone is all about the screen. Excellent for all your media consumption. It has an okay battery that will easily get you through the day. It has the look and feel of a premium for flagship product. The only con I would give it is that the volume rocker, power button, camera button and finger print scanner are all on the right side of the phone.

When you first hold the phone it is very awkward but after a week it starts feeling perfect in your hand and any other phone feels too big. This phone shines when it comes to playing media with its creator mode setting. The camera is biggest let down but it isn't terrible just not what other manufacturers offer.
