So far so good this is the first fighting game i played on Playstation 3. the moves of each character are awesome. the battle speed or character motion are not to lame. its just on the right mix. and the interesting thing is that you can upgrade weapons and stuffs, customize some characters. Few controls, just a bit of taps on the controller and you'll see different kinds of moves from each character. Once you master the Combos and stuffs. and you'll have loads of fun. Even I, a not so fan of fighting games enjoyed this game. from tactical to fighting, a good buy, and an addition to one of our collections. the only Cons is when you play the SINGLE player mode. it uses the same map/battle arena.

The best 3D fighter there is.

This is one of my all time favorite games! The graphics are great! Brilliantly detailed, sharply defined and fluidly animated. The controls are easy to understand and responsive. The gameplay is second to none, among 3D fighting games, Soul Calibur is the best by far. Character designs are great. My favorites are Suong-Mina and Xianghua. Each is distinctive in terms of appearance and fighting style and is very well concieved. Mitsurugi looks like Toshiro Mifune in his youth. Darth Vader is a playable character from the start! The music is superb, some of the best I've heard in a fighting game. I loved the use of 'Star Wars' music in the game, the use of 'Duel of the Fates' from 'The Phantom Meanace' is stirring. SC IV includes a shop where you can customize the appearance of most of the characters or even create your own! There's practically no limit to how you can customize your characters. The arcade mode is a lot of fun to play, there are also challenge modes that unlock prizes for customization. The Japanese cast features some high calibre talent from anime, so I would recommend Japanese voice over English voice. Although I do like Darth Vader's English voice. If I could set him to English and everyone else to Japanese, it would be perfect. For fast and exciting 3D fighting, look no further than Soul Calibur IV.

The is definitely the next level of fighting game. The character selection, graphics and most importantly controls and game play are top notch. There is some problems with online play, mainly with the slowdown during some of the matches and loss of connectivity. Otherwise a very solid game.

Best PS3 fighter game to date

As of now, this game is by far the best fighter game out there for the PS3. The game is now a little more realistic. If you hit a certain piece of armor enough, it'll break. Also, these pieces of armor you get to customize, raising or dropping your stats, and giving you the ability to give your character helpful abilities. Overall, this game was highly satisfying, and was well worth the wait. If you like fighter games like tekken, virtua fighter, or whatever, you should love this game. Oh, and on a last note, you can also make your own character based on a main characters fighting style(weapons included), and there are a least a dozen. Once again, this is a must have for fighter game fans.

    great addition to the franchise

This game is really a good game but the storymode leaves you wanting more. The normal mode is actually closer to easy mode. The characters normal fighting techniques are way more impressive than there finishers. Except Darth Vaders finisher than one is fantastic. The online is incredible and the fact that your characters in game level effects you online. For example I went on line and I fought someone who was level 103 while I was level 5. Yeah well the out come is obvious but he or she had multiple bars of health. So before you go online make sure to build up your character. This game is a must have if your into soulcalibur of fightings games in general. The character creation and modification system is a great addition and is really cool.

    Great Fighting Game

If you are a fan to fighting games than this game is for you. It has a large roster of characters, you can create up to 50 of your own and lots of unlockables. The graphics look great. It only go up to 720p but even then they are very crisp and clear. Fighting wise there is a lot of depth to each character. The story mode is the only thing that is a bit of a let down. Story mode consists of 5 matches and then you are done. Over all i would give this 4 1/2 stars - 5.

    Best game coming out

Soulcalibur IV is a great game -- especially if you've been following and enjoying the series for the past few years. There are over 30 characters to try out (granted, some of them are clones of each other), several gorgeous stages to battle in and enough special moves to keep you memorizing commands for months. As you might expect, Soulcalibur IV also has a healthy number of modes and unlockables that will keep you thoroughly engaged, along with a new online mode that lets you challenge other Soulcalibur fanatics through the magical power of the Internet. Soulcalibur IV boasts the standard Arcade and Story modes that will be familiar to fighting game fans. I was actually surprised that virtually every character in the game has a "story" to play through, but I was disappointed that Story mode only lasts about five rounds and you can get through a character in ten minutes or less. There aren't really any cinematics except one towards the end, and many of those are repeated. What's there, however, is solid and works to give at least a marginal backdrop to the cast.

    Best Fighting Game Ever created!

This is totally one of the best games of 2008 hands down next to Tekken 6. Graphics: AAA (1080P)- PS3 Power! Game Play: Looks fun and since I've played and beaten every game in the series I know this will be a lot funner and have even more challenges. I never like my games easy always hard and th 3rd Soul Calibur was just that. Story: It's a fighting game there kinda isn't a story but in the new one I'm sure there's gonna be one even better than expected. I mean there is a story just nothing complex like Metal Gear Solid but still entertaining. I wish this game would come out sooner I don't want to wait until June to play this master piece. PS3 Version is the best version. Why? Hello... Namco is a Sony Company and I've seen more advertisements for the PS3 than 360. PS3 Port so no more of these bad 360 ports. Better guest characters. Darth Vader- PS3 Exclusive! Yoda- 360 Exclusive! Bobo Fett We also might see Ratchet & Clank, Kratos, and Snake as add ons on the PSN. Soul Calibur Rocks! PS3 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this game has good graphics and has new characters but the thing that I don't like is that the ps3 has Vader and the 360 only has yoda,Why don't they have both new characters in both systems, but this is a great game

    I expected more...

I liked this game and was really looking forward to it long before I finished SC3. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I thought they could have done a much better job. The story mode I thought was incredibly stupid. After a couple fights, the screen goes black and says something like, "Whether or not he accomplished his goal is unknown, because he disappeared from history." I really liked the guest characters and the fact that they were designed by guest artists was great, but they have the same moves as other characters in the game. I also was expecting more from the character customization. In SC3, they had individual moves and weapons. In SC4, you get the move sets of the main characters (no lightsabers) but with more options for the character's clothing. (Cat suit?) The voice acting definitely could have been applied to the character's mouths with more precision. It gets kinda boring to play after every character is unlocked...

This game while bringing a new prettier face to the same old same old, is still the same old same old. The two new characters are cool, but for the most part I cant still throw in my copy of SC 3 and get the same game. further the advent of internet play has brought along a whole new level of stink, nothing is more frustrating that getting online and having some guy just mash the throw button( it is a button now too, not even the combination of two buttons) to beat me, All sense of skill are taken out of a game when a piece of tape or a properly placed heavy object can thwart trying to play a fair game.

it's a great game to play. the graphics are smooth and sweet. the controls handle like a dream. the only problem is the game is very repititious. i understand it is a fighting game and it is great fun and well done but just to warn you it gets a little boring.

This game i bought a couple week's after christmas and i hesitated but then i went for it one of my best ps3 decisions. The aspect's that are good would be fighting, location's,and insane moves like yoshimistu's spin move. The low aspect not aspect's luckily in the game would just be a little too hard hinting i haven't unlocked aprentenace who i desperatly want. The game is worth a buy.

I have played all Soul Calibur titles and this is just obviously going to top them all. It's the first on the new PS3 and the graphics do not disappoint at all. The fluidity of movement from the characters is even more realistic than ever. They have multiple game modes for single player and versus mode. You can still go into training mode to learn the moves of a character. The addition of Darth Vader is just as cool as expected as well. I personally haven't figured out all the moves but I know the force is definitely something that's a factor in his playing ability. I hope everyone goes out to buy this game to enjoy the awesomeness. Very highly recommended.

got some reward money from BB, and decided to give myself a little present. of course I got soulcalibur IV....i have been a fan of the series and this iis a must have edition, graphics are terrific, sound is outstanding, gameply is easygoing and entertainig, unlockables all around the game keep the interest in the game all the time. online gameplay is rewarding, challenging and runs smoothly in medium speed internet connections just like mine. little has changed from the dreamcast version, but it's enough to do it for good. easy to recommend, and a must for your game library.

One of the best Fight games of all time.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It is really one of the best fighting games ever to see light, almost everything about the game is great. It balances the character very well, it all depends on your skill now. It is kind of difficult for new comers to compete with old vets, though. Character creation improved significantly, but also there is a great disappointment that came with that: Now characters created can only imitate original characters' move sets, instead of having them use one of the many styles as in SC3. Overall, a great game.

SC IV is the best hame from the franchise yet they go again with the bonus characters, different ones on both consoles though and unlike SC II they aren't console specific but do go with the consoles since PS3 is kinda black and red, they get vader, and the 360 is white and green, hence yoda and the secret apprantice is on both great game definately near the top of this year's fighting games

    A Sleeper

Soul Calibur was a Sleeper Title for me. I was used to the story line but the game play has really improved. The graphics are so detail and the color is so smooth. I was very impress with how the characters move. The story line was great but a lot of reading wish they would turn this into a trailer. Star Wars Sith Lord Darth Vader was a little over rated and I was not impress with his game play. Overall the Soul Calibur is a great title to add to your collection
