Sound City: Reel to Reel is a passion project, for sure. This is not for everyone, but definitely for those of us who were brought up on rock and for those that enjoy real music. I wouldn't expect that most kids today would have the patience to sit and learn something about an art form that has pretty much died, but if they truly love music, they would enjoy it. So it may only be for people with a little more seasoned musical taste. The story of the studio and the Neve board and all the great music that was produced there is cool in itself, but then add Dave's passion, love really, for the place and the board in particular, bringing that who's who list of musicians in to create and record music... Amazing. I bought the record (that's right vinyl record) first, but the movie has only re-emphasized how good it is. Highly Recommend!

Some of my favorite and best albums were recorded at this studio. Dave Grohl does a great job capturing the history and spirit of the place. The digital world has done some good and bad things but when it comes to music I think it has suffered because of it. Anything Dave touches turns to musical gold.

A great documentary on the history of a small dumpy studio that put out some of the best music ever. Great production and sound track. Amazing how they preserved the wonderful warm feel of the analogue tape and desk. A must see for music fans.

Great dvd about a sound studio. Great job by Dave Grohl. Great songs premformed by artist from Stevie Nicks,Trent Reznor,& Paul McCartney. I was blown away by a great music documentary. Its a good buy for anyone.

A wonderful look back at one of the seminal and cutting edge recording studios of all time. Filled with great stories from some of the greatest rockers of all time. Absolutely compelling!

I bought this after a recommendation from a friend. It is full of great history on the recordings of Sound City. I learned a lot of my favorite albums were recorded there.

Dave Grohl has truly earned my respect with HBO's Sonic Highways. He has a great respect for music history and shows it in Sound City.

This is a very entertaining film about the famed studio in Van Nuys, where many classic records were made. Dave Grohl narrates, and gathers some world class musicians to send Sound City out in style. Great stuff!

Foo Fighters frontmen David Grohl has made this informative, powerful film about the history of music recording in the US based around the now defunct Sound City Studios. It is based on the general belief by Grohl that live tape recording is superior to digital recording that is soncommon in the music world today. He doesn't completely disregard the digital recording process, but it is obvious he would rather prefer the live tape recording. Take it for what it is. This documentary has interviews with many artists and bands about their recording at this studio through the years as well as the engineers and producers who worked there. Its powerful and gives one something to think about and may cause a few people to actually debate this whole digital/tape recording issue.

I meant to view Sound City during its limited theater release in my city, but never got around to it. I am glad I bought the DVD, so now I can have it forever. Featuring everyone from Paul McCartney to Rick Springfield, Dave Grohl makes his mark on documenting a part of music history.

This documentery by Dave Grohl of the "Foo Fighters" on the famous Sound City studio in California was a catalyst for the Foos recently released "Sonic Highways". This is a must for any music fan.

Another solid documentary from Dave Grohl's camp. Everything this man touches turns to gold. Everyone who loves music needs to give this film a watch.
