Don't watch this movie - you'll suffer a worse fate than in 'The RIng' in that 7 days later you'll still remember how awful Spidey 3 is. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

"Okay, lets get one thing straight, Spidey 3 is not as good as Spidey 2. So if you were expecting it to be, you're in for a disappointment. But if you're like me, and watch the movie without expecting it to be anything but a good movie, you're in for a treat! Spidey 3 has 3 villains, Gobby Jr., Sandman, and Venom. Let's start with Sandman. In his role Topher Grace fulfilled the helpless man who goes evil. Flint Marko is just a poor man who needs money for his daughter's disease. In his quest for it, he becomes a criminal. Director Sam Raimi does a good job of developing Sandy and in the end. making him empathized with. New Goblin got his just desserts too. We have seen Harry evolve over all three movies, and now we see his final incarnation. He fits his role as anti-Spidey, cunning-Gobby, and a man out for revenge. His screen-time was proficient and we got the most out of New Goblin that was possible. Alas, we come to Venom. Wow, I could tell Raimi didn't want him in the movie. He was so short-changed its not even funny. We saw Venom come to life, coerce Sandy, and become a two-punch knockout for Spidey. Except his screen time was too short. We got as much possible out of him for the script, but it would have been nice to see some comic homage in his department. F/X were just sick as we have come to expect, humor was good, too much dancing for my taste, but on the whole a great flick. Spiderman 3 is a really good movie. The only reason people knock it is b/c its not as good as Spiderman 2. Make no mistake Spidey 3 is great, just not as great as Spidey 2."

    Good Visual Ride

Movie focuses on Peter starting to lose the world around him. Spiderman is becoming the sole identity of him and he needs a release. When he put the costume down for a bit and lived a regular Peter filled day, that was somewhat funny in the last movie. Now, instead of putting away the suit, he puts on a new one that boosts his physique but lowers his rationale. Instead of losing spidey, he wants more of it, because it feels good apparantly. Eventually, the do-gooder as he is, he fights the suit, which we found out to be Venom as it takes over someone else who, too, enjoys the feeling of elevated power. The whole sandman thing didn't really work for me though, but his character was somewhat pitiful, meaning i felt bad that he just gets stuck in a silo. Ha, oh well. The lovey story is still there like usual as Peter still tries to cling to the real world. Overall, not a bad film. Very visually pleasing. Lighting and effects set the mood and feel of Peter's condition. But, like others have said before, he should be getting more dark and isolated like the Batman movies have done.

A good, but not great, end to a classic trilogy

Although this film was anticipated perhaps more highly than any other this decade, it was met with lukewarm reviews when it finally hit last May. I can understand where some of these come from, as this is most certainly not the same kind of film that made the first two (especially Spider-Man 2) so great. It's not a bad film per se, and definitely has its merits, but it also has some gaping flaws that stand out very easily. Certain scenes just don't work at all, and if you've seen the movie, chances are you know exactly what I'm talking about (a jazz club? seriously? c'mon, Sam Raimi!). That, and some of the dialogue seems a little, well, bad. But as I said before, the movie does have bright points. The action scenes and CGI are absolutely amazing. The crane scene and final battle in particular are a sight to behold. The ending (don't worry, I'm not going to spoil it) is very emotional and ties up the entire trilogy quite nicely. It leaves the door open for more films, but you don't feel as though there is unfinished business if there isn't (but trust me, there will be eventually). Oh, and the villain Venom, who shows up for the third act, is amazing. Kudos to Topher Grace for taking an underwritten role and running with it. He's not quite Doc Ock, but he's not too far behind. Overall, it's a good movie, but seems to be pretty polarizing. You'll have to see it yourself to get your own opinion on it.

The most complex of the Spidey movies

    Posted .

4 of 5 stars for the comic book based movie Spider-Man 3. Of the three Spider-Man movies, this is the most complex with the deepest focus on the main characters. Tobey Maguire & Kristen Dunst return in the key roles. The overall plot is about a strange black creature arrives on the Earth and ultimately bonds with Peter Parker making a "black Spider-man". There are several sub-plots in the movie which add to the complexity of the story. There is Harry the son of the bad guy from Spider-Man 2 who first wants revenge for the death of his father, then loses his memory and ultimately things work out OK. There is the "SandMan" who was the guy who really killed Parker's father; able to shift any/all of his body to sand he is difficult to fight. And then there is the engagement of Parker and MJ; well maybe. As with all of the other Spider-Man movies, this one is extremely well made with good story, good characters and good action. Good special effects. The only reason for not giving a 5 star is the complexity of the plot which doesn't seem to flow well.

    Not Bad at All!

Spider-Man 3 was a movie that I was looking forward to for a very long time. I loved the comics as a kid, and seeing it brought to life on the big screen was just awesome. There's plenty of action in this movie, and I love the plot of Peter Parker struggling with the darkness within himself. The story ultimately culminates in his redemption as he takes down the villains, and ultimately his dark side. That being said, it seemed like they were really trying to pack a lot into this movie, so there wasn't a whole lot of time to sit and catch your breath. There was always something being thrown at you, but I personally love action scenes, so I was OK with that for the most part. I thought this was a great movie, but I do acknowledge that it could have been better.
