I log a good hour or two in this game every day. Every match lasts around 5 minutes which makes it great for quick play instead of other games where you have to set aside at least twenty minutes to a match. The new game modes are really cool too, like Salmon Run. Being able to play this either portably or on the big screen is really magical and I'm so glad the Switch allows me to be able to do that. Best part is it has all the strategy and adrenaline of a shooter but without the violence that's so pervasive in modern games. Its fun for the whole family!

Nintendo's Splatoon 2 another masterpiece, BUOYED by the new, "worth the price of the game alone", fantastic, addictive SALMON RUN! I'm a Splatoon addict. Have logged over 700 hours in the original 4 x 4 paint ball-like shooter created by the master-minds of Nintendo. Everything about this game, from the creative concepts of the game-play, to the colorful lol humor of the writing and art-direction, was (is!) perfect. How can they top this? 5 WORDS: Splatoon 2 and SALMON RUN Last night I got my copy of Splatoon 2, jumped right in, frantically played the newly designed turf-war levels, working hard to get myself up to level 10 to be able to play the even more addictive RANKED LEVEL modes. Then, I received a notification on my screen that some dude named GRIZZO wanted to speak to me about some part time work. Hmmmmm. Curiosity set in. This is when I entered Salmon Run, and, 12 hours later, I have played nothing else on Splatoon 2. Why? Because Salmon Run is a pure work of creative and game-play design genius, where 4 random persons online (or 2-4 local players) work together to harvest golden eggs for your new boss Grizzo while being attacked and annihilated by enemies, bosses and the environment around you. And let me tell you, it is wonderful gaming like you have never seen before. Describing it doesnt do it just, though take a look at it from my friends at GamExplain with the attached video (or just get a Switch and by Splatoon 2 pronto). The game starts off on the easier side, however, the more you level up, the more difficult the game becomes. I have leveled up only once in 12 hours, finding it tough to move onto the next level. Though, a sort of fun, just one more time toughness that keeps you coming back again and again. With an all new great single player campaign (that I started playing on Uber rides to and from places I visit; Switch as a portable console, I love you!), new maps, weapons, ranked level upgrades and SALMON RUN, SPLATOON 2, for $59.99, is worth $99.99 in the value it will give you for years, and solidifies my call two years ago as Splatoon being not only game of the decade, but franchise of the decade. Once again, a perfect score: 10/10

This is a great multiplayer and single player 3rd person shooter. The one large issue is the portable is not the best. Moving a whole console around for aiming with motion controls is awkward and impractical.. adversely you can do stick only aiming which the deadzones on the joycons are so bad that it is no use playing that way. The games graphics are great for Switch.. 60FPS in all gameplay moments, 30 FPS in the hub world. There are multiple modes and constant free updates.

I played the first Splatoon on the Wii U and loved it. The feeling quickly died down because I don't have an infinite stamina for playing turf war. I put probably 30 hours into it. With that in mind, when I saw that a 2nd one was coming out, I got really excited - especially when Nintendo announced the mode Salmon Run (it's like a tower-defense game, but you are the one that needs to stay alive). I got Splatoon 2 almost at launch. It plays pretty much identically to the first game. This is a plus because it feels so natural with the motion controls after 15 minutes or so. After playing Breath of the Wild, I had to get used to the right thumb stick not changing the camera vertically at all. It was a quick transition though. The turf war mode is more fun than the first game because they balanced out the specials and weapons better - there's no more invulnerability. Playing online is practically perfect connection-wise. I almost never lose my connection. I did have some problems when I had a friend over with his system and we were using the same wi-fi. One of us got dropped often for a few hours there, but it got better eventually. Salmon Run is a blast. I like PvE modes more than PvP, and so this is a welcome treat. Blasting salmonids is so satisfying. The boss salmonids can be super tough though - especially if there are more than one in an area. The difficulty slowly ramps up to where you're winning about half of the runs, and so it stays challenging. The game looks great and plays great. It's locked at 60 FPS for those who care. On to the bad and picky things. Let's start with the bad: YOU CAN'T PLAY SALMON RUN WHENEVER YOU WANT!!! This is a poor decision. I can sorta see how Nintendo wants it to be "part of the culture of the game" or "realistic for the game," but it's a video game - a video game about kids that turn into squids and shoot ink out of super soakers. That's not even remotely realistic. I didn't buy a game to suffer through "working hours" being a real thing. I hope Nintendo patches this garbage out. The game mode that is actually new and for which I primarily bough the game is only available at certain times. And it isn't like a hours every day, it's more like for three 24-hour periods each week. One more bad: Gaining levels takes forever, and you have to gain levels to unlock all the guns and modes that are available. Sure, unlocking things makes sense. You play the game more, you can use a wider variety of things. But the amount of time it takes to get to level 10 (which unlocks ranked mode) is ridiculous. Getting to level 10 from level 9 takes 17,000 exp. In the first game it was 10,000. Each round gets you 800 if you lose and 1400 if you win. So, with 50% wins, you're looking at an average of 1,100 each round. So only 15-16 games to get from 9 to 10. With each round lasting 3 minutes plus in-between time, you're looking at about 50-55 min. That is just for one level at the early stage of the game. It is similar between levels 6-9 as well. It takes about 6-8 hours just to unlock the ranked mode. Then you have to play that a bunch to unlock league mode. Getting to level 10 doesn't even unlock all of the weapons. They keep unlocking until level 28-30. You're not looking at about an hour per level at that point. It'll be 62,000 exp to get to level 30 from 29. It will take about 3 hours of turf war (58-ish rounds) to gain that one level and finally unlock every weapon. If you like playing the game with the weapons you have, then this really isn't an issue and the ranked modes give more exp, but still. What if I want the weapon that unlocks at level 25? Do I put in 30 hours into the game before I get what I really want out of it? Picky things: You have to watch the two squid stars tell you what the level are every time they change. Ever time I watch it I think: "I, nor anyone I know would stop or start playing this game because of what levels are available. We don't care enough to warrant this interruption. Just let me play the game." Getting voice chat to work over a phone works fine... but the app drains your battery like crazy because the screen has to be on. While the single player has a bit more than the first game, they could have done so much more with it. I don't want to play Splatoon-themed Mario level for every level. Man, I'll even take an escort mission instead of the same platforming over and over. With all of that being said, don't get me wrong. I like this game a ton. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars and recommending it to anyone with a switch. The game is good. I just want it to be great - a game where I don't have to turn a blind eye to some obvious flaws... and I want to play Salmon Run whenever I want.

If you have played the first splatoon, you pretty much know what you are getting with part 2.If you havent, this is basically a shooter where your goal is to cover as much territory with your paint color while fighting off the other team who is trying to do the same thing. It's the same core gameplay but with added weapons, new maps, and new modes. The single player has been improved and the multi player is still fun. Best of all, since the switch is portable, you can take it on the go!

I bought this for my wife as she was a huge fan of Splatoon for the Wii U. I never get an opportunity to play on our Nintendo Switch because when I get a free moment to play, she wants to play Splatoon 2. She's having a blast with it and says its much better than the first. There are more weapons and apparel to choose from. There are 3 different game multiplayer game modes, a single player, and a co-op mode. Each one is great in their own right.

Splatoon 2 improves every part of the original. The game gets a significant graphical upgrade, new single player, and new online co-op mode. The new co-op mode is fun and fear that it won't work without voice chat is unsubstantiated. I've put hours into it and have never felt lack of vc was an issue. The game gets frequent updates to keep the game fresh. It's a great game to dip into every few weeks with new arenas and the Splatfest events.

I would consider this to be the next "must own" Nintendo Switch title. They've taken the original Splatoon gameplay and amped it up to 11, with colorful stages, fun feeling weapons, a challenging story mode and incredibly addicting multiplayer. The only disappointed is the voice chat functionality on the Switch is super convoluted, but truth be told, I was having so much fun it didn't matter in the end. You need to buy this if you have a switch.

Nintendo has done it again. After the excellent Splatoon on Wii U, we have in our hands the not-too-long awaited for sequel, more of an updated version of sorts, for the more successful Switch. The core of the game remains the same. A short but sweet single player that can take up to 10h and a multiplayer only turf war mode, 4vs4. The shooting mechanics remain intact. Shoot ink as a kid, traverse as a squid through the ink of your color. Two teams, two ink colors. The team that has covered more turf with its color wins. Easy to grasp, hard to master. Motion controls are back as well as regular stick ones. Ton of returning weapons and some new ones, like the inkbrush. Ranked battles open new modes like splat zones or tower control. And finally the co-op mode Salmon Run, a horde mode of sorts, facing players against large enemy bosses on 3 timed rounds. Now, the negative points. Some modes will only be available at specific times, needed to plan ahead if you want to play salmon run or a specific mode in ranked battles. Finally Nintendo proves once again they can't figure out online content, creating a cumbersome solution for communication, required a phone app to talk with your friends. Highly recommendable if you have ever been curious about competitive multiplayer but want to get into it with a more friendly and kind type of game as, given the communication restrictions, no toxicity is present, just a general good vibe all around.

The game is great. I wasn't a big fan of the original but I went ahead and bought this one hoping for better and mainly due to the quality of the Nintendo Switch this game feels fresh and very enjoyable. The single player is a series of challenge levels basically but creates a fun challenge and enjoyment when away from online connections. The bad part is the voice chat and forming party with friends is handled through the horrible phone app for multiplayer and presents challenges when being forced to us it. Overall the game is solid and works great on the switch or dock. Worth a buy!

After playing 1st splatoon on the wiiu splatoon 2 improved a lot of things and im very impressed. The only downside there is no split screen option unfortunately. Other than that its an excellent multiplayer and single player experience. Definitely must have if you have a switch.

Splatoon 2 is very much like the first game. It's hyper stylish and the multiplayer is a blast. New weapons, expanded single player and the horde-esque Salmon Run really help fill out the value; but if you didn't like Splatoon 1, there's nothing here to change your mind.

This game is extremely fun especially multi-player, which does require an internet connection. You cannot play two or more players on a single console, in other words split screen is not an option. You either have to have multiple consoles or play online. The single player campaign is also fun but it is all about the online experience.

I'll preface this by admitting I do not like multiplayer online games that revolve around pvp like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Counterstrike etc where the sole purpose is to run around and kill your opponents over and over again. I bought Splatoon 2 on a whim since my Switch has been collecting dust after finishing Breath of the Wild. To my surprise I have been having an absolute blast with it. The 4 player Salmon Run mode is online co op against waves of monsters. The modes don't last very long either which is good if you are on the go and want to get a quick game in. The game does offer a single player campaign mode that offers its own set of challenges and rewarding gameplay. The only downside I would say this game has doesn't lie with the game itself but rather Nintendo's backwards view on online gameplay. It's difficult to play with friends and their idea of online chat is cumbersome forcing you to rely on your smartphone. Most people won't have issues with this but I did. It's not a reason to not recommend the game as I feel a lot of Switch owners would find it difficult to not enjoy this game in some fashion. Highly recommend it!

I absolutely can't stand multiplayer shooters. Call of Duty, Overwatch, whatever, I can't get into them. I don't find the gameplay of running around for 5 minutes, sometimes shooting people, sometimes getting shot, winning or losing, then doing it again, compelling in the slightest. That said, I LOVE Splatoon 2! In the main Turf War game mode, the objective is to cover more territory in ink, which all weapons shoot, NOT to get the most kills. This means that you don't have to constantly run around looking for fights in order to play effectively, strategy and placement matter, and you can still contribute meaningfully even if you don't have twitch reflexes. Also, the advanced game modes iterate on the basic concept in a meaningful fashon. There's no brainless Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch to be found. (Yes, this also makes Splatoon ideal for kids, as it's completely non-violent. You're just spraying ink, not bullets. Parents, if your kid is bugging you for Call of Duty, but you're not sure if it's appropriate, get them Splatoon 2 instead. You won't regret it.)

I have been playing this game a lot since the release date and I'm loving it! The game has a good single player story (not much of a story though), and a great coop mode called Salmon Run (imagine zombies in COD). However, it's all about the online multiplayer mode! It's very fun to play and great to see how the focus is covering the ground with your team color's ink instead of trying to shoot the other team. There are other multiplayer modes once you've reached level 10, but turf war is one of the simplest and most fun modes I think. Playing with friends can be tricky at times though since there's no guaranteed way that you'll be playing on the same team. There's other experiences like dressing up your character and choosing the right type of weapon that gives the game an unique feel that I haven't played in most other shooting games. If you have the switch and are looking for a game to invest a lot of time in, look no further than here! P.S. To really enhance your experience, I recommend to get the pro controller if you don't have it already.

This game is an excellent showcase of how shifting the goal of matches in a certain genre of games can make that genre feel fresh again. The matches are fun and fast paced and can get competitive very quickly. With the addition of the Salmon Run multiplayer the game has great longevity if the game fits your fancy. The single player campaign is a lot of fun and is good about teaching new concepts and working with all the different kinds of weapons that can be used in the multiplayer. My complaints with the game are thankfully minimal but I believe that they could and should be fixed or at the very least addressed to the community as to why things are the way they are. Such issues are the inability to exit a lobby in off chance you accidentally press the confirm option or changing weapons in between matches rather having to try and exit the lobby and potentially lose one' spot with their friends. It is the small things that cause the game from being near perfect in my mind but I am grateful that the game is as fun to play as it is.

This game is a lot of fun to play and a lot to do. The standard multiplayer game is all about covering as much of the map in your team's ink before time runs out. Matches are short and intense. The ranked mode features different rotating objectives, from fighting for control of a moving tower and pushing it as far into enemy territory as you can to collecting as many clams as you can and then tossing them into the other team's basket almost like basket ball to your standard king of the hill capture point. If you get burned out on PvP, there's a cooperative mode called Salmon Run that pits you and three others against progressively harder and harder enemies that each require unique tactics and teamwork to overcome. And of course there's the single player mode that presents a variety of obstacle courses that teach you all the different nuances of the gameplay and controls. Plus all updates that add new weapons and maps are free!

Currently have 40 hours into the game as well as numerous hours with the original. Personal thoughts: -Game comes with 8 stages at launch. Some of them are pretty decent, while some can be frustrating. The other frustrating thing is the game is on rotation where 2 stages are selected for each mode, and rotate every 2 hours. If there is a stage you dislike, then you are stuck with it. -Ranked battles are fun, but hectic. Like the map rotation, modes are swapped out every 2 hours. I really wish some of these modes were non-ranked along with turf war, but oh well. -Salmon run is a lot of fun and the hectic nature of it can be a great break from the base game, but it is only open at certain times during the day and certain days. A big issue. -The game has a decent amount of weapons to choose from, many of which are back from the first game. You can buy new weapons each level up to level 30, but you can level up to level 50 currently. However, the drawback is there are certain crutch weapons people use online a lot that need to be balanced better. -Splatfest is currently one of the biggest reasons to play. Each splatfest, a new topic is chosen (There has already been cake vs ice cream and mayo vs mustard in the US and PAL versions) and you choose a team and play in Turf War over the next 24 hours. The events are about 1-2 times a month, and you get bonuses at the end for participating. Its a lot of fun and one of the main moments the game shines. Overall, the game is a lot of fun, but the current lack of content is a issue until they get more maps and weapons out. Still though, a must buy for the Switch and a great multiplat game to choose over ARMS.

We recently purchase a Nintendo Switch as a birthday present for my son and he chose Splatoon 2 as his first game. He absolutely loves it! He really likes all features to customize weapons and his avatar. I've actually played with my son a few times and I agree with him, it's a fun game!!
