Good, but Difficulty Ramps Up Very Fast

This is a surprisingly good game, and the twist on the genre is nice. I enjoy racing games, but the cinematic elements that Split/Second brings add an enjoyment to racing games that is a nice change from the norm. The biggest downside is that the difficulty level increases exponentially in the higher levels. It's not uncommon to be 5 seconds ahead of the nearest vehicle, crash, and then wind up in 8th place in the matter of 2 seconds. Otherwise, if you are looking for something that is a bit different than the norm, and can be fun just to play for recreation, this is a great game for that. The Graphics are good, the vehicle rendering is good, and the complexity of the explosions are great!

    Game Review

Split/Second is a game that at times will have you stunned by the amazing course changers. Planes crashing on the track, Nuclear cooling towers exploding, helicopters bombarding you with missiles, the list goes on and on. However why is it that despite the large amount of so called tracks I am stuck playing in the same 4 or 5 enviorments. It is truly a game that at times will take your breath away. Despite extremely simple graphics, the speed and pace of the game combined with the subtle epic visuals will keep you on your toes. Its fun and has enough material to keep Burnout and Kart racing fans alike occupied for hours. Unfortunatly without a map pack, and more customization in the vehicles, it does lack variety. Now as for the difficulty, you can be losing constantly because you fell behind early, but because of the simple Kart racer style AI you will never be more than 5-8 seconds ahead of the competition even at your best. Otherwise with multiple game modes and semi decent multiplayer the game does make up for a lot of it. It is a fun game to play but because of the poor online design you will find yourself lagging frequently in games, and while it doesnt make a huge difference in most game modes, it will crush your chances of winning in survival. Despite all this bad Split/Second has an amazing feature that many games fail to capture in the modern market, something that keeps you coming back. Primarily its the adreniline the feeling that at any moment someone behind you could have a helicopter come swooping in trying to take you out with a dump truck tied below it. A fun game to play with hours of potential gameplay, I would reccomend it only to those who are fans of games like burnout, or mariokart, otherwise its not a bad rental to see some amazing visuals also.

The premise of the game, that of a reality TV show, shows its roots as a Disney publication. However this is no Mickey Mouse driving game. The graphics are excellent the special effects very dramatic and the handling/responsiveness of the cars is outstanding. The course short cuts and course changing power-ups gives plenty of variety and makes the game enjoyable to play over and over again.

It's becoming a rare thing to have a racing game that is two-player. NFS Shift wasn't... Dirt 2 wasn't... Let's face it we all love a great multi-player game. Split Second is intense and the track changes as you race it which is awesome. The graphics are beautiful. Fact is... It's a different style racing game that has a new set of challenges. Burnout was great until they changed the style in the series. I wish they would bring back the crashes. I simply get bored of racing a million miles an hour going so fast I can't correct the car if things start to go out of control. Anyway! Split Second is great go to your Xbox live account and check out the demo!

This is a great game that really gets your blood pumping. The ability to take out your opponents with explosions, open new routes on a track and the variety of vehicles available make it a different game almost every time you play. Great graphics and sound. VERY fast paced...great action.

With graphics befitting a more serious driving sim, Split/Second combines the fun of driving high performance vehicles with a dash of strategy and an ample helping of road rage satisfaction. The more skillfully you take on the natural and artifically induced obstacles of the course, the more you can throw at your rivals. The tutorial was helpful and easy to follow, allowing one to jump right into the meat of the game, which itself is, if not addicting, certainly compelling enough for you to keep saying, "just one more try". With a refreshing lack of blood or profanity for a contemporary game, Split/Second was still able to keep the attention of my children who range in age from elementary to high school, and provide a venue where I could compete with them despite my middle-aged status. Also, the X-Box Live support expands your field of competition.

Would have been a great game

The day of release the company released an all track/car marketplace "addon" that allowed a good majority of people to purchase the best cars without having to play the game. That would have been fine if it was offline only but it was not. It ruined any fun I would have had in multi-player since I am not the best offline which you have to be in order to unlock the best cars. I have the 2 lowest of the high end cars (maxed car bar in multi-player) but there are more cars that I will never be able to unlock. It would have made the game more fun if you HAD to earn your car... at least that would have been fair. It is tantamount to ~god code. Rent it first

I didn't think the game was that bad some of the mechanics were kind of touchy as well as the game modes. All in all though it was a fair game.
