Not a great show. I had to return the show. The reviews were bad.

An amazing remake of an old classic

Starblazers 2199 (AKA Space Battleship Yamato 2199) is the poster child for remakes. It takes the original space opera, strips out all the elements that we'd find campy or cheesy today, and distills it down to pure Space Opera awesomeness. The soundtrack is nostalgic without sounding too much like disco, the animation is recognizably the same style as the original while still being modern, and the plot has been rewritten to be a fresh take on an old storyline. Recognizable, but not predictable.
Overall, you'll like this anime if you crave for space battles. Funny enough, this show resembles the first seasons of BSG in tone, while being lighter.
