The old one is different than this new one. Both are entertaining. Will be buying part 2 when it comes out. Best buy is cheaper than ebay. The plot of the new one has been changed, its a copy of the the robotech plot, clones who destroy that do not know how to repair, and lots of ships to destroy. The animation is more believable, as if they are really on a ship sometimes. There were a few mistakes, I think there should have been more space marines. The american voices are not as passionate as the japanese version, the american actress should keep the same tones and decibels its subdued like if they are just reading from a script, without empathy. So sometimes its a monologue, other times they get it right. This is a cartoon that was updated that was successful, that made most of there cartoon successful, they should have taken a little more time to refine the cartoon with more realistic noises and making the ships bigger than the yamato defeat the purpose, it seems the yamato is almost the smallest ship. They rushed it, here is proof, with deslok return, only a quick explanation how they found him, nothing visual, at all. I only caught this the second time I saw the series. Then the hint that a deslok clone is on the yamato. Even one of the space marines. Its another copy of the new battlestar galactica plot, clones everywhere. If you buy this one, you have to buy the original and watch it first. Its called the comet empire. Starblazers. This will make the experience even better. Its 5 stars because its as good as gijoe for example or robotech.

The reboot of Star Blazer series is great in HD etc. The old series 30 years ago are so old and hard to enjoy again even if a copy is obtained. I am happy with both Japanese and English languages choice. This is a must have for Star Blazer fans.

Although the original series is a classic, Space Battleship Yamato 2199 was an excellent remake to that series, and this set begins yet another well done take on the old classic. Well worth watching for fans, new and old alike.

Brings me back when I watched the original when I was a kid!!! Definitely recommended!!! Bring on Part 2!!!!

This movie is a great improvement over the original DVD. As a true fan I highly recommend it. Can't wait for the Comet Empire!

Good first part of the expansion of the Star Blazers series beyond 2199. Looking forward to the next set.

I loved the previous series so much, that I had to purchase the next one when it was released on Blu-ray!

If you're an old geezer like me, you might remember watching the original Star Blazers when it aired in the early 80's. This was the first Japanese Animated Series that I regularly watched every Sunday morning at 7:00 am. I was 7 or 8 years old & I asked my mom to buy me an alarm clock, just for me to set it so I'd never miss a single episode! This newer, updated rendition of the series is very well written & wonderfully animated. It is beautiful to look at & definitely binge watching material!

It wasn't as action packed as I thought it was. Had a weird ending.

This is a remake and update of the classic Star Blazers Comet Empire Series 2. The only positive is that the animation has been updated. The negatives are the many script changes and reduction on the action scenes. Unfortunately, part 1 of this 2022 series is very dull. The first 13 episodes only have a couple of space battles, which is a lot less than the original Comet Empire series. A big disappointment is that they took away the laser rifles and gave Earth Defense Force soldiers lousy automatic rifles. So much for futuristic science fiction. A huge change for the worst was taking out the original exciting 10th planet battle scene with soldiers fighting off dozens of robot tanks. It was changed to a couple of seconds of dull robot drones shooting up unarmed colonists with soldiers firing automatic rifles. Really bad change. Another problem is that the artists still have smoke coming from the missiles or when ships explode in space. There is no atmosphere is space, so the artists should have taken out the smoke trails. Ugh. The one thing they could have done correctly, they ignored. Don’t recommend buying part 1 of the 2022 series (I wasted my money on it). Hopefully the action scenes in part 2 will be better. The special features are not really that good either. Not worth the price of $40+
