An Excellent Addition To The Star Trek Universe

First I will state that at the age of 55 I am probably more Star Trek than Star Wars in terms of my fandom. I do love both series but I am a huge fan of the characters in Star Trek. The reboot with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban is extremely well done in both production and story these last three films have done much to expand on the 50 year legacy of this franchise. The loss of Leonard Nimoy is played out with a true affection for the first group and it allows long time fans to say good-bye. As for the story at hand it is well told and played by all hands. Justin Lin did an wonderful job helming this edition and the cast as always were excellent in all respects. I loved it and can't wait for the next adventure of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise.

Classic Star Trek into many camera tricks

The story was great but my problem with the movie is the fact that they feel the need to add so many bells and whistles. They tend to take away from the story which really is a good one. I don't really mind the tricks but either I am getting old or they do way too much on all the special effects. I tend to get so involved in the stuff that I miss the story of what this movie is trying to convey. I'm from the TOS era and was amazed back then with the technology, that was so realistic, we are using some of it today. What they are showing in moves today, I can't even imagine us going into their technology, ever. Maybe that's what the older population thought back then, so what do I know? Anyway, Star Trek Beyond is a great story gone too much stuff for my taste. By the way, I am over 50. I may be that older population, today. P.S. I know computer generated visuals are the terminology in what we called it back then camera tricks but I do age myself.

I'm a true Trekkie. When the new Star Trek movie came out, I was skeptical. But I love how they made it possible to have a whole new story line. They don't have to stick with the original Star Trek Bible, since they changed the time line. Brilliant. Having said that, the first "new" Star Trek movie was fabulous, was a little disappointed in the second one, since they "borrowed" the story from the original second Star Trek movie. I still liked it, but wish it wasn't so close to the original story. This movie is fantastic. The special effects are spectacular, and there's just enough comedy to keep you entertained, but it doesn't detract from the story. I highly recommend this movie for any science fiction geek. Proud to say, I'm one.

The new Star Trek crew has jelled nicely in this movie after a feeling out period in the last 2 movies. I like that it was a new enemy and new situation more akin to something the crew would run into in the original series where they were largely in unknown space. I was very happy to see Bones and Spock get some quality screen time together complete with banter similar to the original TV show. All and all a great Star trek movie with the usual AAA special effects and action you would expect. Even people who know little to nothing about Star Trek will find a compelling sci fi action popcorn flick here. Lastly, the white skinned alien girl was a wonderful breakout character. I hope we see her again in future Trek movies.

"Beyond" Not Best but Very Good

"Star Trek Beyond" is the third film in the rebooted series starring Chris Pine as Capt. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, and while it suffers in comparison to the first two, it is nevertheless a very entertaining piece of escapism. Directed by Justin Lin (he cut his film making teeth in the "Fast and Furious" franchise), the story lacks the philosophical complexity regarding the nature of identity and evil of "Into Darkness," as well as a stellar star turn by Benedict Cumberpatch, but it does deliver enough visual eye candy and plot twists to keep you watching without complaint. The blu ray edition of the film that I purchased is a first rate transfer, naturally, with great sound some reasonably interesting Special Features. I picked it up as a Deal of the Day at a great price. If you are a Star Trek fan, old school or new, you will probably want to add this title to your collection.

Another Good Entry to the Franchise

The first film in the Star Trek reboot caused me to take notice of the franchise. I was never a Trekkie. I had seen the show on as a kid, and there were the many other TV shows that came after to expand on the universe, but I wasn't interested. For me, the Abrams film helped me understand the characters and it had plenty of action and special effects, elevating it from a low-budget sci-fi TV series to a full-blown blockbuster film. I was let down by Into Darkness, the followup film, so I was apprehensive about this film, but there were positive reviews overall. Seeing it, I thought it was a good film. The characters were interesting and they told a good story without too much grandiose storytelling or overuse of nostalgia. I will need to revisit it again to see if my opinion changes.

Return to 2009's Star Trek Form

Never been a fan of Star Trek and I'm still not. However, this rebooted franchise has made me enjoy these sci-fi films. I think Beyond went back to what worked in the 2009 film and had fun again. I loved the new character, Jayla. She felt fresh and fun and was a character I think the films needed to shake things up. Plus, she's another strong female character that can go toe to toe with anyone and the films needed that beside Uhura. Loved her relationship with Scotty. I hope to see more of her moving forward ( I know another film is in works). Idris Elba plays the villain, which he has played a lot of in 2016 and I enjoyed him. Overall, I enjoyed this film. It continues to expand upon the character development we've seen from the first film and I want to see more.

Wonderful addition to the Star Trek franchise

I love the first Trek, I like Into Darkness but I like this one a lot, probably more than 2 and not as much as 1. Terrific movie though. Director Justin Lin did a wonderful job here and he made what really felt like the first Star Trek film that felt like an episode of Star Trek. The audio and picture quality are absolutely top notch. While Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness were, in fact, remastered in native 4K for their UHD releases and shot on 35mm film, Star Trek Beyond was shot digitally in 3.4K digital on Arri Alexa. The film was ultimately mastered in 2K and the same goes for the vfx, 2K, and to my knowledge, they upscaled the 2K master for the UHD, so, IMO, this 1080 blu-ray release is the better choice over the 2160 UHD (Fake 4K) and cheaper.

I do not think that ST: Beyond gets enough credit. It played more like an episode of Star Trek, where the scale wasn't as large considering that they were stranded on another planet. Still, I like it better than Darkness and the fact that it played an good homage to Leonard Nimoy. It cause the current Spock to focus on his mortality and consider leaving the team. The same went for Kirk in terms of the long term mental wear it took on his body being gone so long. I don't recall the past TV episodes or movies going into this area, which is good and realistic. Overall, if I had to rank all 3 movies then it would be 1, 3, and 2. I wish the marketing for this movie was better. The original trailer did it no justice to how good it really was.

Great movie. I'm a star trek fan from the 1960's. It was great back then and getting better all the time with the making of all the movies these days. The blue Ray player and the HD smart TV along with the home theatre system allows you to enjoy the movies from home. The picture quality is awesome on Ultra HDTV. I have a Samsung 65 inch smart TV with the latest sound bar that come with 11 built-in speakers. Awesome sound quality along with an extraordinary pictures on the Samsung setup. If you're into watching movies from home on your home theater system this movie is worth watching.

I saw this movie w/ my sister while in Grapevine, TX, right before she left for Kuwait w/ the Army National Guard, so that made this movie a little more special. Admitting that, though, this was probably the best new STs of the three so far released. There's always one spot in these movies that I find hard to suspend my disbelief. For this one, it was the fight scene in the enemy camp w/ Captain Kirk on the bike. Before and after that, the movie is great. (Obviously, that's a personal opinion). The Blu-Ray version of this is movie looks amazing on my 32" SmarTV.

Of the three new continuity films, I think I enjoyed this one the most. The Blu-Ray was high quality, with no issues to get in the way of enjoying the movie. Being a classic Trek fan, the movies themselves are somewhat hit and miss for me, but I do like them. If you can accept the new actors and the new look and a few things like odd laws of physics, you will probably enjoy these movies as action flicks. As Star Trek, there were a lot of good moments in this one, but it is not a deep film by any means. Enjoy it as a popcorn scifi film, not to be taken too seriously.

Completing the trilogy Star Trek Beyond comes full circle. With a feeling of actually being on a different planet for an entire movie really gives you the since of what it would be like to be apart of the Enterprise. I loved this film and my wife and daughter did also. We couldn't wait for it to come out on Blu-ray and we got the moment it did. I enjoyed the first two films of tbis franchise and this third one is just as good. As each film got better with each different story line I enjoyed each a d everyone of these film. Beyond is a must have hands down.
