I'm beginning to notice a pattern developing in regards to director J.J. Abrams adapting films for existing franchises. We see a lot of formulaic plot contrivances that will seem very familiar to those who have seen The Wrath of Khan. Story beats play out exactly as they did in the original, only with different characters, but specifically enough that the same lines are spoken. The performances are fun and energetic, though, so if you're new to the franchise, or are just watching for the action and spectacle, then this is a very good option for you. However, longtime fans will be disappointed. (You know it's bad when the director of the next installment says that he's going to politely ignore the events of this film)

There should be a "1" in "Star Trek 12"

Like a lot of people, I was excited to see the new Star Trek movie. But sadly, what JJ Abrams offered did not meet those expectations. The special effects looked nice, until you realized that you can barely tell what you were seeing half the time. The acting was okay, and at least fell in line with the acting from the previous movie. But the plot...well let's just say, if you've seen all the original movies, then you're going to be getting a whole lot of deja vu from watching this. Some scenes went for a more subtle approach, while others were blatant copies. I only purchased this because it was dirt cheap, but for any Star Trek fan looking for that movie fix, stick with the classics. You'll get the same thing for less money.

I bought this movie to play on my XBOX One S with my new Sony 4K HDR TV. The 4K copy in this package did not play at all. I had to contact Paramount to set up an exchange, granted it was free of charge, but it took about two-three weeks after buying the movie before I could watch it. The other two Star Trek 4K movies did not have this problem and worked flawlessly.

This movie is obviously a rehash of Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan. But this movie removes all the emotional aspects of what people call, the best Star Trek movie ever made. It is still a nice action flick, but you will not be at the edge of your seat nor will you be on an emotional rollercoaster.

The plot was stupid. The federation dreadnought looked ridiculous. Special effects were good. . . . . They should never have used khan as the villain. Not sure if this was worth $4.99

Pretty good movie, but the 4k version really didn't blow me away like the critics said it would, when viewed on my new LG OLED. Should have bought just the Blu-ray disc instead of the 4k and saved the money.

I shouldn't say terrible but truthfully after the first movie and how well made it was, to take your sequel and make it a remake of the classic star trek 2 in my opinion was a huge mistake

before watching this watch the original with Ricardo Montalbahn which is a quasi remake of Run Silent, Run Deep. This one is paltry in comparison.

The quality of the DVD and everything like that was fine. But the movie itself is horrible. JJ Abrams really destroyed the Star Trek reboot. What a wasted opportunity.

The second and by far weakest installment of the JJ Abrams Star Trek trilogy; there are some find moments, but on the whole this film is disappointing.

this is disappointing. it is a redo of the "Wrath of Khan". the writers are either lazy or they have no imagination.

I loved the previous movie from not being a Star Trek fan at all and was really looking forward to this but was a huge disappointment.

I kept hearing so many great reviews about this altverse Star Trek sequel. It was subpar at best. All that happened was a previous movie plot was borrowed to create this story. With some changes to make it seem like an entirely original idea. The movie had its moments, but I figured out who Harrison was before it was officially revealed in the movie. The love story between Uhura and Spock felt completely tacked on to try and satisfy some romantic demographic. Added nothing to the story and was a waste of time.

The story could have been much better. Poor casting of Khan. With all of the excellent actors from India we could have pick a more suitable actor and gave it true authenticity. Oh well, that's bias Hollywood for you. Visually it great, good special effects. But constantly a poor choice for casting for a crucial role gone political or racial.

For me, the movie would have been just as good without Khan. JJ Abrams and his writers had so much information to take the second movie anywhere he wanted it to go, but opted to cheat the fan base with a huge cop out with the introduction of Khan. I suggest you watch the original episode, Space Seed and then Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan before you see this movie. You'll understand what I'm getting at.
