Got more than I expected this time. Got a limited edition giftset. Not only did I get Star Trek Into Darkness movie in Steel Book packaging But I got a Villain ship toboot. I can keep this unopened and give to one of my grandkids but it could be worth something some day. I will have to get another copy of the movie to go with my collection of Star Trek movies, original and new series. Outstanding deal.

I'm well aware that people were a little, upset, over how the villain was handled for this Star Trek. I'm not going to join in the debate though. What I didn't like about this Star Trek was that the trailers implied that there would be spectacular space battles to be waged. While it did happen, it did not occur the way I expected. Though the main plot involved the Enterprise tracking down a criminal named John Harrison, who launches a one-man war against Starfleet, the movie was very much about James Kirk, someone who became Captain of the Enterprise very quickly, but still has much to learn. The dynamic between him and Spock is very different than in the original timeline. Spock is an officer who believes that following regulations is too important, but Kirk will gladly toss the rulebook aside to do what's right. The action, cinematography, and score is all good, but I felt like it could've been different. They could've done more.

These guys have been favorites since Spock and Kirk first hit TV! The first movie was so wonderful I was afraid the 2nd might not be worthy BUT there was nothing to worry about. This movie is cleverly written and has so many little nods to the original series but you don't have to be an original fan to thoroughly enjoy it. Going back and changing history has opened up possibilities for many more sequels and I can't wait! What I loved most about the original series was the great chemistry among them - Spock, Kirk and Bones - and they continue to develop that so well. The effects are spectacular, the action fast-paced and continuous. Buckle up and enjoy!

J.J. Abrams delivered an explosive action thriller that takes 'Star Trek Into Darkness.' When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

I enjoyed the first Star Trek reboot by JJ Abrams a few years ago. I was eagerly anticipating the sequel but as most do with sequels, I had reservations that this one may not live up to the high bar previously set. Fortunately, I was wrong. This movie does the original series and movies a great homage while not being simply a remake. It is refreshing to see this franchise back on the big screen with a talented cast and crew of film makers that want quality as much as fans yet still want to make a fun and entertaining movie. It is such a great movie that my new teenager appreciates it for the sci-fi aspect, action, and story telling.

The DVD itself: Standard jewel case, wide screen format, options like subtitles are great for when I want to watch it while the girlfriend is sleeping. The Film: AWESOME... start to finish action and non stop entertainment. With all the character development out of the way from the first film, this one was able to focus on what the fans want from a good Star Trek film - One hundred and thirty one minutes of AWESOME! The introduction of Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) is incredibly well done and leaves you wanting even more KHAAAAN!!!!!

If you like Star Trek, then stop reading and go buy this bluray, as it is very much a fan service. The plot leaves almost no room for any character development, and there are too many nods to past Star Trek characters, ideas, etc. or were obviously the result of meetings devoted to reproducing moments that worked in Star Trek (bones giving Kirk medical exam, etc). I am not wild about the ending either. The 3D is very good, but very few scenes take advantage of it. You can tell easily when they intended to use 3D. Surround sound is very good, but lack of commentary is disappointing. The last one had a very insightful. It's a strong movie that is fun, has real emotion in it, and hits the Star Trek notes, so I do recommend it for Star Trek and scifi fans because there aren't many scifi movies this good with this good production values.

Star Trek the "not so" original series

This was a good summer movie but It was basically a retelling of a previous Star Trek film. "He's not Khan, he's not Khan, he's not Khan..." That's all fans were told over and over again for the year leading up to the release of this film. I for one, was really hoping that wasn't true. The Wrath of Khan was by far the best Star Trek movie and this felt like a weak retelling. It was great to see this story with the new special effects but it would have been cooler to have a new story to stand as the continuing legend of Star Trek. The fact that the special features varied based on which store you bought your copy from was also ridiculous. Who in their right mind would buy the movie 3 times just so they can get the full special features content? Should have had a different exclusive for each store rather than different features.

Solid sequel, but not quite as good as the first.

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan/have not seen the original Star Trek movies so if you're looking for an insider review, this is not it. Star Trek Into Darkness is a solid sci-movie with fantastic visual effects, interesting characters and a decent story line. It doesn't feel quite as fresh as the first movie in the reboot but that is a difficult task for any sequel. As earlier mentioned, I have not seen the earlier movies so that made following the logic of Khan's motives a little difficult. The movie started out by making him seem completely villainous, then humanized him to the point of the viewer really sympathizing with him and then turned him back into a monster again. These changes were a little jarring and weakened and otherwise compelling plot.

Please Best Buy next time be more responsible and look at your products before sending it out. If it’s damaged then it’s common sense to replace the ones that are damage and send out ones that are in good condition. Stop being irresponsible and lazy because if the tables was turned and someone send you something that was messed up then you would be angry. Be more responsible

OK ... I'm not a hard-core Trekky, but I'm certainly a big fan, and this entry in Star Trek franchise doesn't disappoint. I loved the cast of the original series and movies, as well as the 'Next Generation' cast. This new film is set in a time prior to the original series and Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are both outstanding as the young Kirk and young Spock. The story is well written and the plot keeps you engrossed from beginning to end. From a technical standpoint, the special effects are wonderful and the 3D is very well done. Worth having in your collection.

    Getting Better

Watching this on Blu-Ray 3D was awesome. The storyline was a little contrived, but seem to be getting better. Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy is actually much better. However I can't forgive the idiots who re-designed Kahn. Ricardo Montalban is spinning in his grave! Kahn was evil and ruthless but his character was cool, built, and had the look and attitude of a bad-As* with charisma. He got replaced with a pasty, skinny, anorexic, creepy slimer with nothing even close to what Ricardo Montalban put into that character. Alternate time line doesn't cover this blunder.

JJ Abrams takes the franchise reboot to the next level. Chris Pine continues to nail the role of Kirk. Zach Quinto as Spock is just great. Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison continues to be a tour de force and makes this role gold like everything else he is currently doing. All of the feel of the original series is here. The great sci fi exploration. The humor. The characters and events. This holds to the original series while bringing in excellent special effects. JJ Abrams has captured what was great about TOS and has brought it into the 21st Century!

Trekkies all know the original story of Kirk and Kahn from the original story and the movie. Into the Darkenss tries to use these classic story lines in the reboot and kinda miss the point. and flails aimlessly. Could have been a better story line if more thought had been put into what aspects from the original story had been used along with some out of the box thinking, i.e. advanced starship design. This very premise shouts out what other star trek characters do we know that has advanced weaponry?? Not a bad movie, just misses the point, my opinion.

If you have a 4K Tv it is definitely worth your while to get the 4K version if on sale. It is in 4K native resolution with few if any defects and the audio is great too with the Dolby Atmos 7.1 option. The only defects are minor just haloing in one or two crowd and action scenes but not enough to worry about really. Great color saturation and surround effects in all the action scenes make this one a must buy. This JJ Abrams directed movie is one of the best of the Star Trek franchise.

I selected the Best Buy Exclusive version due to it's special packaging, which matches the original packaging of the first film's Blu-Ray. The film itself was a very thrilling and welcome return to an alluringly sleek version of the future. It has an adventurous tone and a great use of it's characters, both returning and new. The Blu-Ray itself is of the great quality you expect from a modern Blu-Ray release, and director Abrams knows how to make a film dazzle with his colorful use of lens flare. Overall, it is very satisfying in this format.

I'll be the first to admit, I was never a star trek fan with William Shatner as captain kirk. Now all that has changed ever since the Rebirth of Star Trek & Star Trek into the Darkness hit the scene. It's really a must watch as the J.J Abrams once again takes you on a ride of thrills, visuals and story. The BestBuy Exclusive Blu=Ray Edition provided a great sale of $7.99 at the time but it's really worth full price. Add Dolby True HD sound along with Behind the Scene content on disc and BB 30 minutes cinemanow extra was exceptional. .

Star Trek has had to reinvent itself since the original television series. First, with a series of movies that strayed from feel and intention of the original. Followed by a successful stream of television series that strayed from the original formula, but hold as independent examples of the talents and passions of new generations targeting specific audiances. This follow up to the reboot movie Star Trek, continues to pay homage to the works of the original writers and actors while reaching out to a much broader audiance.
