Loved the series and am enjoying watching again with my son. Far better quality than I thought possible for a DVD. They did a lot of rework to make it happen and they did a great job. Love the packaging that it does not take up a lot of space, use much in the way of resources and is easy to work with. Initially I had regrets for not choosing the Blue-ray, but am more than pleased with the DVDs.

Been wanting to get this series for years, but was always too pricey. I finally found it for a reasonable price. I've been enjoying my favorite episodes and foresee a much more enjoyable rerun season.

I might hate the packaging, but the DVDs provide an excellent picture and great sound. A good bargain financially.
As for the series itself, I had already watched it on TV when it was running. It is superior to the original Star Trek and represents what Gene Roddenberry truly wanted: less "cowboy" attitude, deeper thinking on all levels. It offers the viewers many opportunities to reflect on what it is to be human and how we can improve our condition. The main characters are certainly deeply moral but they have they weaknesses and their uncertainties, their humorous sides. We are also presented with a variety of beliefs, spiritual, social, political. The scenes are filmed at a pace which gives you a chance to "get to know the characters", to see their emotions, to watch their body language. That pace also gives you time to think for yourself, you do not feel mentally attacked by flashes of colors and brutal images, it's too often how more recent films/series can be described: an assault on your physical brain as well as an imposition on your consciousness. Kudos to STNG!!!!!! The second time around, and without the commercials, It is delightful and very aesthetic.

My Favortie Trek

This, in my opinion, is the best Star Trek series. Tne Next Generation follows the new crew of the starship Enterprise as they explore the Galaxy.
This series introduces many new alien races to the Star Trek canon, such as the Borg and the Q Continuum, as well as exploring the history and culture of the Klingon Empire.
The cast turns in some great performances. Patrick Stewart, one of the best actors of our time, does an outstanding job as Captain Picard, Michael Dorn is equally outstanding as Lt. Worf and Brent Spiner's performance as Lt. Commander Data gives some keen insights into the human condition.
the series is brilliantly written and features some of the best episodes in the enitre Star Trek franchise, particularly "The Best of Both Worlds". Next Generation does make poltical comments but, for the most part, does so without being heavy handed. Mostly, the series is about exploration of the Galaxy and the adventures of the crew as they face the unknown.
The visual effects may look dated today, but they were top of the line for TV in it's time.
If you are interested in this series, this collection gives you the entire series in one set.
Highly recommended.

THE BEST SCI-FI ACTION SERIES EVER

Gene Roddenberry is the genius who started the original Star Trek series. Through his guidance and inspiration the Star Trek saga lives on through the newer talented actors, writers, and directors of "The Next Generation". I was very disappointed when "Next Generation"; "Deep Space Nine"; and "Voyager" ended because I still have a desire to see more adventures in the future. The Star Trek series "Enterprise" did not satisfy my thirst for more Star Trek because of its prequel format. Future sagas are more relevant to the series because they provide better continuity to the stories and to the characters involved in them. This is like reading a really good book with a cliffhanger ending. As I view each episode of "The Next Generation" I usually discover something that I had missed when I watch them again. Perhaps there are more talented actors, writers, directors, and producers out there who might be willing to resume these sagas through an new television series which begins again where the latest saga or motion picture ended.

This new collectors set in honor of the 20th Anniversary is a testament to the work that the team does at Paramount. The extras and bonus features, especially the hour of never before seen footage, brings about this landmark series to a full circle.
