Star wars is back yet again, but this time it's in 4K. Glad it comes with blu ray.

Fantastic Collectable For Star Wars Fan!

When this Blu-ray steelbook was on sale for 9.99 on May 4th, you couldn't pass it up even if you own the original trilogy on Blu-ray already. the collectable steelbook is worth the price of admission for 9.99. However, be warned. The extras are scarce on these and no Digital Copies at all. This set is very bare bones. Only get this edition if you want the collectable packaging or if you must own everything Star Wars.

This whole steel book collection is amazing and so unique. It's well worth getting separate movies than the box set.

Best Buy sent a re-wrapped used copy. Case was broken, disc was scratched. I got the original trilogy and Rogue One as a gift fir a 12 year old. Didn’t discover that 3 of the 4 were re-wrapped used discs…all with broken cases. Outside of the return window, so that’s fun.

Buy this uhd version only if photorealism is your preference. I love more photorealism and less to zero film grain. I know, I know there is a divided camp between photorealism and admirers of film grain and I appreciate the film grain admirers desire to preserve the movies keeping to their original intent. I just like how these movies, new and old can look so real with tvs now days. This movie had the film grain scrubbed and the movie borders on photorealism and does not look as though it was filmed over 46 years ago. I continue to go back and re-watch scenes as they are so crisp and clear. Obi wan disabling the tractor beam scene and how clear the stormtroopers were in these scenes is almost like it was from on the set footage watching the actors in between takes and not a real movie. Like I said, for those like myself will adore it, film enthusiasts who are admirers of film grain and keeping the picture in its original setting will be disappointed so please keep this in mind.

This UHD of A New Hope is such a fantastic title to own for Star Wars fans and video/audiophiles alike. The score, the digital processing and even the overall picture quality is superb! Highly recommend as a collection piece for the original movies that have captured so many of our hearts for decades.

Best way to watch Starwars! Picture is better than the Disney+ version, and the sound stage fantastic! Definitely worth it. I know people keep saying physical media is dead, but this movie proves otherwise. The bitrate of this movie is twice that of the digital copy and three times the Disney+ stream. Watching on anything other than disc is like drinking a thick milkshake through a straw.

A New Hope was the first of the saga out of the gate. Many feel it's probably one of the best of all the films in the saga even to this date. The 4K transfer of this film is beyond stunning. I've got an LG-G2 77" OLED (that's been fully calibrated) and you can actually see details you never knew where there. An example is R2D2. The detail is so revealing in this 4K transfer version, that you can actually see fingerprints on the robots round black eye! I'm sure the director never dreamed that 4K would be coming along and reveal this level of detail, but it just adds new depth and dimension to this classic film. This is a MUST HAVE if you're a collector of this epic saga.

Of course SW is great, but how is the 4k video and audio quality? I was blown away by both. This is a demo movie to show the capabilities of a 4k TV. Picture was super clear and audio was outstanding. I noticed things I had never noticed before. For example, how worn Vaders mask is at the beginning and the difference colors of the rebel pilots helmets when they begin the DS attack run. I would definitely recommend this one for SW fans and also to see what 4k is all about.

This is an interesting blu ray release. This is yet another version of the landmark film. The previous DVD and Blu-ray versions were plagued by a lousy transfer. The color timing was way off in numerous shots, with some shots looking achromatic, while others overly garish. This seems largely fixed to my eyes. Laser blasts and light sabers are the correct colors, the Death Star explosion is now orange, rather than white. Lucas has also changed the Han and Greedo confrontation yet again. At this point, one wonders if he wanted to get in one last trolling of the fans. Anyhow, the 4k transfer is best SW has looked on the home video medium. Improved detail throughout, with a restrained use of HDR. As a fan who grew up with SW in the 70s and 80s, this was a good purchase. This is one of best films ever made, period. I do not mind the changes. If you are waiting for the original version, this is a pass.

The HDR colors darken the image a bit, adding depth and some interesting changes, albeit not overly drastic, to the proceedings. The iconic opening crawl sports a deeper tone, definitely not what fans are used to seeing through the years from VHS to Blu-ray, from Laserdisc to DVD. It's almost a very light orange rather than the more traditional solid, bright yellow. Another one of the more immediately obvious color transformations comes on the circular board on Yavin 4 where the Rebels watch the Death Star's progress as it approaches firing range. The red color on the board finds significantly deeper push. C-3PO's golden exterior is much less gaudy here, presenting with a deeper, more subdued, but more polished, appearance. Stormtrooper whites and the blockade runner interiors find some of the most prominent improvements for color stabilization and white pop. Generally, colors enjoy improved saturation and contrast, be that skin, laser blasts, lightsabers, Tatooine terrain, or the slick gray and black surfaces around the Death Star's interior. Vader black is perfect and space exteriors and low light interiors enjoy boosted depth as well. By-and-large, HDR improves where necessary without fundamentally altering the movie, though a few of the above-referenced elements do stand out a bit.

I have had the complete story for years now. It is a nice set so, I was skeptical in re-buying these once again, especially when these 4k players upscale nicely. But, since they had it for two dollars off and the reviews were pretty stellar on the transfer, it was just enough to push me over the edge. The verdict? (FYI, my equipment is a Sony A8 (OLED) and a Sony 4K player with a Polk Audio Magnifi Max soundbar and subwoofer) The picture in OLED is absolutely amazing. Dings and patina on R2D2 and C3PO like you've never seen. The disc really comes alive in the DeathStar scenes with all the black and white (perfect black on my A8) and the color tone feels so much more real. Is it enough to make me get all of the whole series in 4K? Maybe not. But, if will probably have me headed back out to pick up my favorites between 1 and 6. For fans of all of it, this is an absolute must buy. I truly felt like I was 11 years old in the theatres again. Hard to describe the feels this disc gives.
