When The Force Awakens came to theaters I can't recall a time when I or many others were so hyped to see a new Star Wars release (since maybe the original trilogy). To large scale I think this movie met expectations and was a great film introducing new characters and story. This 2K release looks great with HDR and sounds great with Atmos. The included MoviesAnywhere code also gives you access to the Dolby Vision version of the movie if you have the right hardware.

Nice upgrade over the regular bluray. Picture quality is vibrant and detailed. No hint of grain but there are some soft cgi moments. Sound quality is decent. Kind of muted like all Disney films.

JJ Abrams directed directed this Star Wars movie. It is the first in the most recent movie trilogy, and this one is my favorite of the new trilogy. This film looks and sounds great on the 4k format. If you are going to buy this movie you are getting the best when you get the 4k version. The picture quality and sound are top notch when compared to the regular bluray version. So if you have the extra money get the 4k version.

I will say right from the off that the picture and sound of the force awakens is demo worthy stuff whatever you may think of the sequel trilogy there is no denying the quality of the picture and sound I personally liked these movies and although not on the same level as the ones I grew up with they are very entertaining and enjoyable as with all these 4k releases they've done a great job had to get the 4k to complete my sequel trilogy.

The great beginning to a new chapter in the Star Wars saga. The compelling story of good vs evil has always been the signature of these movies and “The Force Awakens” continues this tradition with the introduction of Rey (Daisy Ridley) vs Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Nice tie in to the previous movies with return of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo. Worth it to upgrade to the 4K version, fantastic audio and video.

~ Limited Steelbook Edition is "Phantastic"!! ~

Okay, having watched Episode VII in the theater back in December like everyone else for the most part, I really enjoyed the movie. I have been a long time fan ever since the beginning on May 25, 1977. Today, I bought the Limited Steelbook Edition from another retailer. I found the packaging very well done and much like the recent steelbook editions for I - VI.
You get all the formats in one package, 1 DVD edition of the movie located on left side when you open it, 2 Blu-rays on right side. One is the film, the other is the Special Features or Bonus Features, then the digital download copy insert.
The Blu-ray looks fantastic on the Ultra 4K 65"! The sound is awesome at English 7.1 DTS HD, plus other languages at 5.1 DTS HD.
**The following may contain "spoilers" if you have not seen it by now **
It is basically 30 years after the Battle of Endor and remnants of the Old Empire have regrouped and formed "The First Order".
Luke is in hiding and the "Resistance" is led by General Leia among others. A new "enemy" has emerged as well for the "Dark Side", Kylo Ren, but he is no Sith, not yet anyway. Old favorites are back from the original series as well as the droids from all 6 prior movies. A new droid makes it's appearance, BB-8 and is really a good character. "Rey", a scavenger, may just yet find that she has "Force" abilities she may or may not be completely aware of until the very end.
There are familiar situations, etc. that "take you back" to the past, for certain. That didn't bother me, really.
Hey, as long as I didn't see JarJar Binks in this one, I am a much happier SW fan. lol
If you really want a nice package for your Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Movie, you really should get the Steelbook Edition and to compliment your other 6, if you have them.
I have attached the photos to my review below!
The back cover to the steelbook is a picture of Captain Phasma. Kylo Ren and his red lightsaber are on the front...
Inside is a battle scene of the Millenium Falcon flying and getting shot at from a pair of Tie Fighters.
** NOTE ** ALL Special Features in this set are on the BLU-RAY second disc, "Bonus Features".
** There are NO Special Features on the DVD edition, just the movie itself with a decent menu.
** Special Features are described in the "Details section" for this movie here on Amazon. Loved them all.

I swore off Star Wars after episodes 1-3. Figured that there was never going to be any that could hold up to the originals. But this is way more in line with the feel of the originals.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is ll the rage now, but Star Was is still the original movie franchise. After the disappointing prequels, The Force Awakens brought back Star Wars in the best way.

The package includes both the standard Blu-ray and the UHD Blu-ray. I've only watched the UHD version. If you like the Star Wars series of movies and want to own the best version of them that is currently available then I'd recommend that you purchase this version. I don't believe you'll be disappointed with the video or audio quality. I thought it looked and sounded excellent on my home theater system.

Worthy installment in one of the best movie franchises of all time. Now where is the 4K release? Probably just in time for the next release and conveniently just before Christmas 2019.

The HDR color spectrum compliments the movie well. The opening sequence when Ren and some stormtroopers arrive on the planet and confront and capture Poe Dameron is certainly darker on the UHD, but to the image's benefit. It's more intense, the villain's black mask and surrounding fabrics find a new gear for depth, fiery backgrounds and bright red laser blasts present with more intensity and punch, and white stormtrooper uniforms are deeper and more reflective of the lighting and environment. Poe's X-wing blows up in spectacular fashion, a light show that is many times more intense and visually satisfying compared to the Blu-ray. When Rey first meets BB-8 in chapter 10, the scene has a much more pronounced dusk feel to it. Deeper and warmer tones define the scene, and the added depth to the droid's orange accents serve as one of the picture's highlights, not just in this scene but throughout the film. Takodana greenery also enjoys impoved color depth, variation, stability, and accuracy. Lightsaber intensity only rises in brilliance and color saturation, ditto laser blasts. Black level depth is superior in space and in various low light shots; the beginning of chapter 11 -- a star destroyer exterior followed by a low light interrogation interior -- is a good example. Skin tones never miss a beat. This is a very good improvement to an already first-rate Bu-ray; fans are going to be beyond pleased.

fanboys are fickle

In Star Wars IV, Darth Vader was a bada$$. Then in V working to VI, they show a human side, ultimately redeeming his former evil deeds by saving his son, and all that was seen as ingenious. Star Wars 1-3 shows his pre-Darth Vader life and his turn to the dark side. Fan boys were complaining that Anakin started as a whiny kid, but didn't we all start as whiny kids? They also complained that a selfish love motivated him to do wrong, and he killed the one person he loves, because he was consumed with power and hate, and the fanboys said what a wimp. Now they complain that the key villain in VII, Kylo Ren is a complex torn villain instead of the "mustache twirling" villain Dart Vader in IV. A different set of fans would complain that the villain WAS a mustache twirler. You can't satisfy everyone. Number 4, which came out first was a simple good, sometimes funny, usually action packed picture that started as a tech demo for the space battles and special effects. 5 and 6 were the way Lucas wanted it, and so ws 1-3. It's meant to show the nature of something innocent when mishandled could turn disaterous, like Anakin's love of Padme. It also shows that it is possible for people with evil reputations to go back to good at the time when it does the most good. (Vader saving Luke from the Emperor.) Since every movie other than the first one made had themes of the nature of good and evil, and complex choices people make, number VII is par for the course. Anything this anticipated would be a target for pre-release criticism.
A note about the 3D. Usually when a movie is made in 3D, there is one key scene that you think would look cool in 3D, even if you watch it in 2D. There are no obvious 3D scenes, but the 3D looks cool enough to notice in 3D all throughout the film, but a 2D watcher couldn't pick out the scene that was thought of to justify 3D.
