I love this movies so much. It is very divisive but I think it is a phenomenal movie with great action, story, characters, and lore. the 4K Blu-ray is amazing, the Dolby Vision picture looks so good and the Atmos track is even better. Watch the making of doc on the special features, its a fascinating look at the making of the movie.

A worthy advancement of the Star Wars story

When I first saw Episode 8 in the theatre, I was disappointed. I didn't expect some of the story arcs introduced in Episode 7 to end so quickly. However, after picking up the DVD and watching it, I seemed to "get it" much better on the second viewing. This is a worthy advancement of the Star Wars story, and I can't wait for Episode 9 later this year!

This movie is either a movie you love or a movie you hate. For me, I absolutely LOVE TLJ. To me, Last Jedi encapsulates everything that Star Wars is to me. The acting is without a doubt the best of the series, the movie visually looks fantastic, and the dialogue is also great. To me, the Last Jedi is the definitive Star Wars story.

Usual excellent special effects. Plenty of action. Answers lots of open plot questions from the previous movie. Introduces some "out there" Jedi abilities that aren't explained.
Overall enjoyable. This series is getting long in the tooth and I hope the final episode is a better effort than this one. That said, fans will still enjoy this one.

While there were definitely issues with the plot, I think this movie was better than most people thought, with themes and messages in the movie that I thought were great for the franchise. It's definitely divisive, but as a Star Wars fan I think this takes the franchise in a new direction so it doesn't follow the same path as the OT.

Your ego hates The Last Jedi

In the original Star Wars trilogy, the distinction between good and evil is stark and uncomplicated. Even in the Han-shoots-first version of Star Wars, it's abundantly clear Greedo was a threat. By the time we get to Return of the Jedi, whatever is supposed to entice Luke to join the Dark Side is a mystery to us, because Luke's status as unwavering hero has been mercilessly cemented.
The Last Jedi is more complicated than that. Its bad guy is ego, which exists in our heroes and villains alike. The Last Jedi then takes it a hundred steps further by tying the audience to the ego, forcing us to experience the characters' failures more acutely than we're probably used to. When we first meet our eponymous last Jedi, Luke Skywalker, he is arguably aligned with the film's detractors: casually tossing his lightsaber off the edge of a cliff, he believes that this garbage has gone on too long and should just die already. He refuses to have anything to do with Rey or any of this new stuff, though he is happy to see Chewie and R2. But he's also a disappointment, to both us and himself, for not living up to the legacy established by the end of Return of the Jedi. His self-loathing affords him the arrogance that he alone gets to decide whether the Jedi live or die, for there will there be no return of the glory days, if there were any glory days in the first place.
Kylo Ren is of particular interest because we feel the pain of his being right. He possesses the same self-importance found in Luke, but never got the same recognition. As in The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren is starved for approval -- which he has never received, either from Snoke (who is always quick to point out his shortcomings) or Luke (who tried to murder him in his sleep). The fact is, Ben Solo did deserve more than he ever got, which is not easy for us to accept in a villain.
This ego-audience melding is chiefly apparent in Poe Dameron. When we first meet him in The Force Awakens, he sasses the bad guy ("Who talks first? Do I talk first?") and eventually goes on to destroy their weapons with his devil-may-care hotshot ways. The Last Jedi begins no differently: sassing the bad guy ("I'm holding for General Hugs?") and defying orders to take 'em out. Except this time, though successful in his attack on the First Order, he gets a lot of people killed. Leia is quick to point out his lack of understanding of true leadership and demote him, and though we're rooting for Poe, we know Leia's right (Leia's always been right). Naturally, we want Poe to be in a position to redeem himself. So when Admiral Holdo shows up out of nowhere (and Poe describes her as "not what I expected"), of course Poe should question her orders! We know Poe is a good guy, and we don't know this Holdo at all! So instead of passing along Rose and Finn's discovery that the First Order has a hyperspace tracker, he keeps it a secret and sends Rose and Finn on a mission to find the "master codebreaker." This plan turns out badly. And it's the second viewing of The Last Jedi in which this becomes painfully clear. We're so tied to Poe that we forget Admiral Holdo has a reputation as an adept military strategist. We're very forgiving of Poe's acts of heroism -- even this last effort that got everyone killed. But just like Poe, our ego is in the way: from nearly every perspective outside of Poe's, Holdo is the war hero, and Poe is the one who got everyone killed yesterday. Holdo and the rest of the ship are sweating bullets to deal with a crisis they only have one shot at, and this belligerent, insubordinate narcissist storms onto the bridge to proclaim he doesn't approve of a plan he only partially understands.
Finally, there's Finn. Finn has a similar arc to Poe's: His own heroic intentions belie an understanding of the bigger picture, but Finn (and the audience) gets his most direct lesson from DJ. After failing to acquire the master codebreaker in the (sorta uninspired but I get it) casino and finding themselves trapped in a holding cell, Rose and Finn meet DJ, a low-rent codebreaker that we know they shouldn't really trust except what other choice do they have. DJ is the ambivalent moral compass of The Last Jedi: He literally tells Finn that there is no clear distinction between good guys and bad guys. Some bad guys are good. Some good guys are bad. He's describing Poe Dameron. He's describing Luke Skywalker. He's describing Kylo Ren. He's describing literally every person ever. And he is, of course, describing himself.
After selling them out to the First Order, DJ explains to Finn, "It's just business."
Finn says, "You're wrong."
But DJ knows the truth. He knows the truth about business, he knows about ego, he knows about morality and the uncertainty of certainty. With minimal hesitation, he gives Finn and Rose - and us - all the codebreaking we require.
DJ is the philosophy of The Last Jedi wrapped up into one single word.
He tells them: "Maybe."

Not sure if Steel Box edition was necessary (Yes it was); saw the movie in theatre and wanted it because I am a Star Wars junkie! The 4K looked and sounded great, check out the Blu-ray version, and downloaded the digital copy into iTunes, no issues! The Steel Box Edition is loaded with extras; which I enjoy!

On it's own, a decent movie and worth watching. If you're a major SW buff & Lucas fan, there's plenty to pick apart. If that's the case, "this is not the movie you're looking for. Move along". I enjoyed it and adds to the expanded universe. I love the franchise, bought it and have re-watched it several times since.

May not have been what The Force Awakens was, but it sets up The Rise of Skywalker very well. I am sad they made Finn more of a comedic side person now, where as Force Awakens, he was a key character. I do hope they put him back to that status. Anyways, great movie, cant wait for the final.

Even though this is certainly not my favorite Star Wars movie, I still find it quite entertaining, especially from a visual standpoint. The art on the steelbook is also fantastic! I kind of wish I had gotten the 4k version though since the colors are lackluster in the standard blu-ray version of the film.

Many fans have convinced themselves that The Last Jedi is somehow the worst Star Wars movie ever made, even below The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I find that to be hilarious. Unlike those two episodes, this film is well-acted, exciting, surprising, and drop-dead gorgeous to look at, especially with the 4K release! This release includes an extensive feature-length documentary on how this episode was made. The sheer amount of effort and imagination put into designing so many practical in-camera sets, costumes, and stunts boggles the mind! Internet culture has ruined movie-going, with fanboys ready to rabidly nitpick everything to death instead of enjoying themselves. Some of the most beloved blockbusters of all time (Jurassic Park comes to mind) are filled with plot holes, weak characters, and continuity errors. Do we care? Of course not, because those movies are awesome and entertaining! I shudder to think what kind of reception classics like Jurassic Park and The Empire Strikes Back would receive if released today. (“The Force can move objects and let you be a ghost? That wasn’t in the original movie!” Lol) The point is, shut out all the noise, and watch The Last Jedi with an open mind, and enjoy one of the best movies of 2017.

Another flick I didn’t catch during its theatrical release, I was not disappointed. Running on my SONY 4K 900F65, UBP-X700, and SONY HSTS5000 sound system, I was totally immersed in this great continuing STAR WARS saga. I don’t know if I ever will go to the movies again. GREAT MOVIE!!!!

Feel however you will about the movie. Of course, you wouldn't buy it if you weren't a fan. With that out of the way, Disney always does well by the fans by including an array of features. The exclusive Steelbook also fits nicely into my collection despite no 3D special edition as with The Force Awakens.

This latest entry in the Star Wars saga passes the torch to new characters. The story is not quite as epic as previous Star Wars films. No exploding planets or Death Stars. Just a struggling resistance and a lot of personal conflicts. Still, the effects are great and....well...it's Star Wars!

This movie starts off like feeling like most Star Wars movies, which is a good thing. But then it takes off and gives you a film that you haven't seen in this saga before. Lots of surprises and complicated character motivations. I can't wait to see where Episode IX takes us!

I know this movie is divisive among Star Wars fans, but I absolutely love it. I love the depth and emotion of the character arcs, and I love how it propels the story of Star Wars forward instead of just relying on nostalgia. Looks absolutely beautiful on blu-ray too.

The movie is not one of my favorite Star Wars movies, but as a collector I am happy with the SteelCase series. The case is a novelty itself, but appreciate that it includes both 4K and standard blurays, as well as the digital copy. Plan on keeping this around for awhile.

I was so hyped about Star Wars again once The Force Awakens was released, but after a few events from this movie (namely one), I have lost the desire to watch much Star Wars. To be fair, there are some excellent scenes in this movie. I did like the Kylo/Rey dynamic which added a little intrigue into the force. I wish this movie could be considered episode 7, part 2 rather than episode 8. It didn’t really expand much on what episode 7 started but did an excellent job at ignoring and undoing elements in episode 7. I blame Disney for this as they didn’t have a clear idea of what they wanted this new trilogy to be. Overall it’s a movie I’d watch again if needing to watch from episode 1 to 9, but as a stand alone I’m not really drawn into watching it again. Such a missed opportunity
