Awful movie in the Worst SW Trilogy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Steelbook front unfortunately repeats Kylo yet again. It was fine in the TFA Steel but the front of this one really should’ve been Rey imo. The movie is awful, a long, nonsensical mcguffin filled, plot hole ridden, nostalgia pandering slog. Par for the course for the unfortunate wasted potential of the Star Wars brand in this trilogy. The back still doesn’t have the poster like the 2015 steelbooks had. At least TLJ steelbook has both sides of the theatre posters. Wouldn’t recommend the movie itself but the steelbook could be worse, got it for the sake of completion. Much better than the blatantly first year photoshop student covers of the new 4K te-releases anyway.

Awful finale to the wonderful previous 2 trilogies
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Episodes 7, 8, and 9 should really be remade as soon as possible. WITH George Lucas’ script. These last 3 movies were a disaster and had no sense of the movies that came before. Rehashing, rebooting, and a miserable cast. They had the opportunity in 7 and 8 to have the wonderful, original Actors in them. But no. They failed horribly by trying to introduce u dealings who couldn’t carry a tune let alone 3 movies in a fantastic franchise. What J.J. Abrams did right for the Star Trek reboot, he got wrong with 7, 8, and 9 of Star Wars. A sad ending. Too bad.

Entertaining but flawed finale
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Movie: 3 stars - Abrams crafts a fun, fast paced star wars adventure, but fails to match the level of excitement or creativity of its predecessor. A fan of TLJ, I was excited to see the franchise heading in a (mostly) refreshing direction. However, the story beats that fueled TLJ, are quite stretched and reshaped to match the narrative direction of RoS, After the fan division created by TLJ, it’s clear this go around that producers opted for an arguably more predictable, safer storyline that seems preoccupied with hitting all the fan service check marks rather than telling an original story with a clear message. An example - an odd throwaway line at the beginning of the 3rd act referencing a specific recent light speed maneuver is a clear indicator of what the film sets out to achieve (you know it when you hear it). Even at 2 hours and 22 minutes, Abrams keeps the jam packed narrative moving at a brisk pace to keep the audience engaged, though sometimes moving so quickly from one plot point to the next that it doesn't always give time for hero plans or character revelations to stick the landing. There is A LOT of movie here, and it makes one wonder how much was left in the cutting room floor that would have given the story and performances more room to breath. A closer to 2:45 (or even 3 hrs - End game?) run time could have allowed the major revelations and character arcs to arrive in a bit more organic way. John Williams returns with his usual fantastic work. Rey’s theme fully expands as she discovers and navigates her path, finally reaching its full potential alongside its character whilst weaving perfectly with the classic franchise themes. A/V: 5 stars - the 7.1 DTS-HDMA (Blu-ray) and Dolby Atmos (4KUHD) are both engrossing demo-worthy tracks, with moments sure to justify your home theater and perhaps anger your neighbors (Rey and Kylo’s desert clash, the opening “light skipping” and final battle are all highlights). Make sure to set volume it a couple notches above reference for full effect.

You are correct.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a fan, then this is a necessity purchase. If you are not a fan, the same arguments that have lingered for the past 40 years persist. Plot is very good, sound is good (hoped there would be more dazzle from the ATMOS), cast is outstanding. They made a concerted effort to leave no stone unturned as far as casting, and phenomenal special effects (sadly again sound was NOT)!!! Especially rewarding is the bonus disc featuring a 2 hour retrospective of the entire project from the first moment until now!!!! I was aghast to learn of cameos by Carrie Fisher's real life daughter, John Williams (yes the composer was IN the film) and a drop in performance of JJ's friend Lin Manuel. Just a sideline and you might already know this, but this info rocked my world. The 4K box says you need a 4K DVD player and a 4K compatible TV to play the disc. I am a 'sound' guy, so I have NOT upgraded my TV to 4K (bBECAUSE I am into the 3D big time and you have to choose). However, I have a fantastic ATMOS system. Unfortunately they have packaged Blu-ray with only 7.1 sound and 4K with ATMOS. Since I have a 4K/3D DVD player I bought the 4K disc, which included the Blu-ray disc 'just in case'. I am very happy to report that either the TV or the DVD player successfully 'adjusted' the video signal and the 4K disc played on my system with ATMOS and a great picture with no hiccups.

Too many threads to tie up...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not the best Star Wars and not the worst. J.J. Abrams took on the Herculean task of concluding the "Skywalker" saga in one film. A few spoilers ahead, so if you haven't seen it, you should stop here. Ttying to tie together so many pieces and make the force unified at the end made the film seem like a bunch of disjointed vignettes connected only by the characters. We end up saying good-bye to some and hello to some we haven't seen in a long time, all while watching scenes that were throwbacks to previous episodes (really? a prisoner escape while someone else is trying to be stealthy on a ship/space station?). Having Rey be the granddaughter of Palpatine does explain her power with the force, and leads to a battle similar to the "Return of the Jedi." All in all, there are lots of unexplained holes in the plot and missing back stories for characters, such as Poe's former associate, Zorii. Watching with my children who haven't seen or don't remember the other movies was okay. The story stuck together enough that my 9-year-old was able to follow what was happening. The action kept the story moving, but seemed a bit contrived at times and the characters could be more caricatures, yes, we know who the good guys and bad guys are, so why must the good guys always be competing for suicide missions? Anyway, if you can take your mind off thought mode and only react as a 9-year-old, it is a great movie. As an adult it is okay, but will leave you wanting more or wanting a different story line. Average out the 5 stars and 3 stars and I give the overall effort 4-stars.

Great movie and awesome end to the series!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm an older guy who saw the original Star Wars release in the theaters as a young boy, now named episode IV. I also saw the next two movies back then and am a huge fan, being V an VI. I liked the reboot of episodes I, II and II, but they really weren't as good as the original three. Enter the Rey era and I'm totally blown away! I even like Kylo Ren and everyone else, and of course the action is awesome and special effects top notch. In short, I loved the movie and if you're a Star Wars fan, you probably will as well. Disc features: 4K versus digital download: 4K from a player is simply the most accurate representation of the film. Streaming companies throttle the bandwidth using compression that does affect the picture and sound. If you want the best, use a quality HDMI cable directly into your receiver or TV and you'll see and hear the difference. That said, digital download is a must have for my kids' devices and a matter of convenience. It's the way of the future for sure. Overall review: 5 stars with no regrets and I'll definitely being watching it many times!

Special effects can't overcome weak story
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 4K disc is well presented with great audio and visuals. A decent amount of supplemental material is also included. Unfortunately the fractured storytelling, silly plot devices, and a feeling that J.J. Abrams just tried to do too much with the final episode, makes it an overall disappointment. Still a must own for Star Wars fans.

Entertaining end to the Skywalker saga
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This edition includes both 4K and bluray discs, plus a paper insert printed with a digital copy redemption code. The code is redeemable from all major digital retailers and the Movies Anywhere service. However, the format varies depending on the retailer. Vudu, FandangoNow, and Movies Anywhere offer the movie in 4K, while it is only available in HD from iTunes and GooglePlay. The paper insert does not explicitly state an expiration date for redeeming the digital copy code. The packaging includes a cardboard sleeve over a standard, black 4K bluray case. Unlike other editions, which feature variations of the theatrical movie posters, the sleeve artwork depicts a rebel ship facing the Sith fleet. The film itself is an entertaining end to the Star Wars Skywalker Saga, however, it fails to live up to its potential. The visual effects and light saber battles are the highlight of the movie. Good feelings of nostalgia for the original films may help many forgive the movie's flaws--namely the clumsy dialogue and huge plot holes. While overall disappointing to this longtime Star Wars fan, I was still genuinely entertained enough to want to watch it again.

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Quality 4K.While it has some plot holes and some retconning it is better than the Last Jedi.Great action and effects too. This Should have been better since it is the last one.The last 3 movies just were not fluid. The producers should have had a clear plan to finish the final Trilogy.Disney dropped the ball on this for sure.

Star Wars!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its the conclusion to the sequels. Not my favorite star wars trilogy, felt disjointed and not cohesive of a plot from Episode 7 to 9. This brings a final close to the chapter of jedi and sith that we have known for 35 years.

A fantastic 4K for a fantastic film
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this 4K. Mine came with a slipcover which at first you might think isn’t the greatest but the actual 4K itself has a different cover from the slipcover. The actual cover on the 4K is the beautiful theatrical poster so you appreciate the actual slipcover art especially the back which has this amazing image of Kylo Ren if you look closely. The discs have artwork which is always a plus. The 4K transfer is great especially during the action. The actual quality of the movie is AMAZING! This is absolutely one of the best Star Wars films. I highly recommend this product.

Final Star Wars #9 was good, but could have been.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having seen all the Star Wars 1-9 movies when they were released, I was very excited about #9, but it was a disappointment. The trilogy that was 4-5-6 with #4 being A NEW HOPE, is in my top 10 movies of all time. Great storytelling, fabulous special effects for it's time, and a great cast of unknowns. By the time they had gotten to #9, story was old and special effects, despite how good they are, cannot make up for a so-so script. If you are a true fan of films, buy it. BTW, you cannot binge watch it in 24hours. FYI - JABBA THE HUTT- does not appear in original movie release on VHS. ENJOY.

4K Disc reference level material!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is true 4K BluRay disc reference level, and probably the best looking/sounding for the whole series. Seeing it for the third time, this movie is starting to grow on me. No Star Wars sequel will ever live up to our hopes and dreams, and this one had to accomplish a lot. From mid-way to the end it's strong in it's pacing, and the creative team has really found a great happy medium with the special effects between old school and new CGI, that works seamless together.

Excellent end to a saga!!!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Admittedly, you’re going to love or hate this movie depending on what kind of fan you are. If you’re not a fan of easy or unbelievable plot devices, this may not be for you. If you're someone who's relatively opinionated on how a story SHOULD move along, this may not be for you. Barring that, this should be an enjoyable film for most Star Wars fans. The amount of action and plot twists is enough to keep you on your seat to see how it all plays out. Recommended.
