An Outstanding Sequel

An expanded sequel to the sleeper indie hit, SteamWorld Dig 2 improves on every aspect of the original, from graphics and sound, to controls and the user interface. Picking up after the events of the first game, you play as Dot who is searching for the protagonist of the first game, Rusty, who has disappeared. The controls are simple and tight, and your options for moving and digging expand as you venture further into the mines. As you dig deeper, you'll uncover minerals which can be used to purchase upgrades that allow you to go further, and capsules that unlock new abilities to make the journey a bit easier. The map has also been streamlined, making you less likely to get lost, and quick travel options unlock as you go along which means you spend less time re-treading familiar ground.
The average player should expect about 10-12 hours of gameplay from this title, though you could tack on an extra two or three if you decide to take on the post-game content, which is much tougher than the main game. Overall, it's a fun game that comes highly recommended to be in your game library.

I heard good things about this game with many people comparing it to Metroid games. It is similar in terms of exploration and back tracking, but done in a very lose and fun way that you are bound to find more gems to dig up along the way. The atmosphere is rich and the action/puzzle/platforming gameplay is extraordinary. It is a bit short, but the price tag helps balance that out. Only weak part is the story, but its still interesting enough that you wont forget what your doing.

One of my favorite games for the Switch. Fun characters, solid controls and a great environment to explore. Not too long - took me about 15 hours to complete - but enjoyable the whole time. And you can't beat the price.

Ever since we purchased the Nintendo Switch we have tried to add as many games that we can afford to our collection. This is yet another great game that I’m glad was reasonably priced and able to find its way to our home! We have only played it a few times but so far it looks very interesting! Can’t wait to actually have some real time to get further involved with it!

Steamworld dig 2 is a very enjoyable game that played really smoothly on the Switch. I really like that the game play evolved constantly but it was never complicated. Even though I visited older locations I never got bored with it. The only downside is the story, but if you're all right just clean, fun gameplay, then I highly recommend Steamworld Dig 2.

A very fun metroidvania game. You explore a vast underground mine, digging your own tunnels and paths as you explore and chart out the mine. The deeper you go the more dangerous the threats you will face. Improves on the first Steamworld Dig, which was already a great game.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is another confident effort from Image & Form, and a worthy successor to a game that's a treasured part of many eShop collections. Stylish and good-looking, it also has the series' trademark humor and, yes, a pretty good soundtrack. It refines and expands upon the qualities of the original and hits some delicious high points, albeit some of the smartest segments and ideas appear only briefly. It sets the scene for more content and games, too, which is pleasing to see.
For fans of SteamWorld Dig we suspect the recommendation isn't needed as they'll buy this anyway. For those that skipped the first game, however, Dig 2 is a must-have - its charming aesthetic and cast set the scene for a tightly designed and clever exploration game. Now the wait begins for SteamWorld Dig 3.

While not radically different from the first game, this is a refinement & improvement on it in every single way, offering an even more attractive aesthetic in the process. Polished & fun, Steamworld Dig 2 is sure to please.

Fantastic game and worth the cheap price, hell well worth the play thru. Onlynissue is its not longer, no gamemodes and stuff to do and lastly the fact it was not out on the ps vita. I originally played the others on vita and that OLED man ong it was sweet. Too bad vita didnt get a port.

If you like the exploration aspects of metroidvanias, but don’t want a lot of tough combat you’ll probably enjoy Steamworld Dig 2. It’s a short but well crafted experience.

I’m a fan of the series so I really enjoyed this game. The digging mechanics are really fun with some challenging platforming as well. Exploration is also very well done. The story is a continuation of the first game so I recommend playing that first.

I already bought SteamWorld Dig 2 digitally on the 3DS but decided to double-dip for the Switch version. The game is perfect for short bursts of play, making it ideal for the Switch, but it is addicting and hard to put down. Just one more trip into the mine! This sequel loses the random generated aspects of the original SteamWorld Dig, but makes up for it with lovingly crafted areas, a variety of power-up configurations, and HD graphics that look great in docked and portable mode. The connection to SteamWorld Heist was the icing on the cake.
