SteelSeries Makes the Perfect Desk Pad

I needed a new desk mat, as my last one had started to fray and catch my mouse. It seemed like perfect timing, as I had just heard SteelSeries was going to be releasing an update to their Legendary Gaming Mouse Pads. So, I picked up the Qck Performance Gaming Mouse Pad XL Balance, as I wanted something between speed & control for more than just gaming. Pros: - Quality material and texture. - XL is Large – 35+in by 15+in. - Comfy on the hands. Cons: - Sizing might be off by a few inches. Size: Even in the box, you can tell the SteelSeries QcK Performance Gaming Mouse Pad XL is more than a mouse pad, it covers your desk space for mouse and keyboard and then some. It’s better described as a Desk Pad. There are 2 sizes to choose from: Large at 19.3 by 16.5 in and XL at 35.4 by 15.75 in. I chose the XL, though mine measured in at 36.5in by 16in. I’m not complaining about a little more Desk Pad. The edges of the pad will curl a bit initially as the packaging has the pad rolled up, but the edges will straighten out in a day or two of use. I cannot even tell the edges were curled after 4 days of use. Feel & Quality: Out of the box you will quickly notice the quality of the QcK Performance Gaming Pad, the materials used on both the top and bottom are high quality. The Top is soft, smooth and consistent across the whole pad, even the stitched edges are soft and only slightly raised to the point you won’t get any discomfort resting your arm on the edge. The bottom is extra grippy keeping the pad in place on any surface. At a thickness of only 0.14in you wouldn’t think there would be a huge impact on comfortability, but the density of the material SteelSeries uses gives the Pad a solid squish that won’t impact the movements of your mouse but also provides enough give that your palms will thank you. I can tell this Pad is a God send for anyone who games or works at a computer for hours on end, just a little give under the mouse and keyboard is the difference between painful hands. I found the texture of the Balance surface was the perfect for my style of use, smooth but enough grip that my mouse and hand don’t slide out of control. I’m able to move my mouse exactly how I want. I usually use my mouse on the higher end of DPI settings around 15K DPI, some will think I’m crazy, but with the amount of time I spend with Mouse in hand I need to limit my wrist movements to avoid injury. The QcK Performance Balance version hit that sweet spot perfectly. Cleaning: For cleaning, you will need to keep it simple with either a lint roller or cloth and water, no cleaning solution or soap on this Gaming Pad. Unfortunately, the QcK Performance Gaming Pad is not machine washable, as that would make things much easier. Spot cleaning only. Luckily, liquid spills don’t soak in quite as quickly, most can be soaked up with a clean cloth. Conclusion: SteelSeries doesn’t disappoint, making another Legendary Gaming Pad with the QcK Performance Gaming Pad, which provides a large gaming surface for both the mouse and keyboard. With different surface options for Speed, Balance, and Control, all gamers can find a pad that fits their gaming style. By far, this is my favorite gaming pad and will be added to my list of recommendations.

A Precision Upgrade For My Setup

I’ve been playing PUBG and Marvel Rivals with the SteelSeries QCK Performance "Control" mousepad, and I’m thoroughly impressed. Enough so, that I won’t be going back to the standard gaming mousepads. It has now become a key part of my gaming setup. I enjoy the high-stakes intensity of battle royales and the fast-paced action of hero shooters, and this pad has noticeably improved my performance. The surface is excellent feeling slightly textured and grippy, a clear step up from the slick pads I have now moved on from. It offers just enough resistance to ensure precise control without feeling rough. In PUBG, it steadies my aim, keeping my cursor locked on during firefights or long-range snipes. For Marvel Rivals’ rapid team battles, it allows quick, accurate flicks to targets, making critical shots feel smooth and reliable in both games. I am partial to the XL size (900 x 400 mm), which suits my low-sensitivity setup perfectly. It provides ample space for broad arm movements in PUBG’s tense final circles or Marvel Rivals’ hectic fights, with room left for my coffee or notepad. The 3.5 mm thick base is comfortable, supporting my wrist through extended sessions. The neoprene bottom grips my desk firmly, staying put no matter how intense the action gets. The low-profile stitched edge adds durability, designed to resist fraying for long-term use. But, let’s be honest, it’s not perfect. The textured surface seems like it could attract dust and lint over time. I haven’t noticed much buildup yet, but I suspect it might require regular cleaning with a lint roller or damp cloth to stay pristine, especially if your desk attracts dust. It’s not a concern now, but I’m assuming it could become tedious if maintenance isn’t kept up. Also, if you prefer ultra-slick, speed-focused mousepads for fast-paced chaos, this one might feel too controlled. It’s all about precision, which I’m really appreciating, but if you prioritize glide, you might look elsewhere for example you might consider their XL “speed” or “balance” mousepad. Plus, the grippy texture can take some getting used to. Coming from smoother pads, my aim felt sluggish at first, like moving through thick syrup, until I adjusted. If dust does accumulate, it could make the surface feel uneven, which would be frustrating in critical moments when you need smooth cursor movement. I believe this is quality gear that’s sharpened my aim in PUBG and Marvel Rivals. Shots feel more controlled, like the pad’s aligned with my movements. SteelSeries designed it for precision-focused gamers, and it delivers, elevating my gameplay. If you play games where accuracy is crucial and want a reliable, durable pad, this is a solid pick. Just be prepared to clean it occasionally to keep it in top shape.

    Hugh Speedy Mouse Mat

SteelSeries - QcK Performance Gaming Mouse Pad XL - Speed I have a hard time calling the SteelSeries Qck Gaming Mouse Pad a mouse pad; at 35.43 inches by 15.75 inches by 0.14 inches (900 x 400 mm x 3.5mm) in size, it is more of a gaming mat. Steel Series advertises this as “The first collection of premium mousepads designed to match your playstyle. Speed, Balance and Control. Friction or Glide? You decide,” which is a pretty catchy phrase, and I am reviewing the “Speed” version. The 0.14-inch-thick mat is comfy enough and has “low-profile” stitched edges, which just disappear and do their job of keeping the mat flat and preventing curling. The mat is a nice black that doesn’t reflect any errant light, which I like. It also has a non-slip neoprene rubber base, which keeps it stable and in place. When I first touched the fabric weave and texture, I thought, How will this allow my mouse to glide quickly? It seemed at first touch that the tiny bumps I felt would not allow for a good slide. I was sure wrong. This one boasts the lowest level of friction, and while I was skeptical, it does make a difference. This thing handles like a hard game pad, and my mouse glides effortlessly across the surface. And yet I felt I had good control. I run a gaming mouse with high sensitivity and have never found my mouse being jittery as I have on some other mouse pads. If you're a speedy, competitive player, this is going to be a massive win. Smaller movements mean less time spent actually making your plays, and increasing the tracking specs of your mouse's sensor can get those flicks and twists down to simple twitches. I used this pad with FPS games, an MMORPG, a management sim, and normal daily activities such as using various office apps, email, photo editing, and browsing the internet for information. My wife tried it, and she does a lot of video editing and audio optimizing on surgical videos. She sets her mouse to super-fast mode for everything, which is far higher than I use in nongaming mode. She was quite impressed. Now, since I am used to a fast and slippery mouse, my experience may be different from yours. The other two mats may suit your style better, but for me, I really liked this mouse ‘mat’. Choosing the right pad really depends on your preferences and your desk space.

The SteelSeries extra large mouse pad is exactly as advertised, in that it really is extra large. I wasn’t expecting it to be near as big as it is, but it’s actually a really good size to for what I needed. The quality is extremely nice, it’s very soft and flexible, but also has a nice texture when touching it. It does a good job of staying in place on my desk and isn’t too thick to sit under my monitor. As far as mouse control, it does a great job. My mouse slides across effortlessly, but the texture keeps the mouse firmly gripping to the pad. So the mouse has virtually no slide on the pad, making it really comfortable to use. It's also extremely comfortable on my wrists when used for long periods of time. I was worried that I may experience some rubbing on my wrists when using it, but the material is soft enough that it doesn't bother my skin at all. Overall, I really like this pad. I was kind of stunned when I saw how giant it was, but once I put it under my monitor and keyboard, it created a really nice space with plenty of room for my mouse.

I try not to gush about any product, but this one deserves as much as a mousepad can warrant. I, like many people, have tried and dismissed a lot of mouse pads since mouse pads became a thing. I’ve tried hard surfaces and fabrics, some cheap, some rather costly, desk mats and mouse pads… IMHO, this one is the best, bar none. I am moving from a Roccat Sense CTRL pad, which has been my favorite so far, with a super-fast Cordura style fabric finish, it disappears when I’m playing, but it is super slick and offers no resistance. The Qck Speed pad is packaged with a large cardboard tube and a protective sheet, so the mousepad comes out of the box pristine with no lumps or bent corners, perfect. It does have a strong rubber/chemical smell for the first couple of days, but it has mostly faded in my short time so far. The surface is not as fast as my prior pad, but close. What makes this pad’s mousing surface so special is they’ve managed to keep it fast, while still having a little resistance to help you control your movements when the game starts moving. I enjoyed the Cordura style surface a lot, but it irritated my ring and pinky fingers which sit on the side of my G502X MFE with my lazy mousing technique. With PTFE mouse skates this guy scoots with ease across the surface, and I’ve noticed I don’t feel anything on my two outside fingers anymore. The Qck Speed pad offers much finer control than the shiny Roccat pad I was using. I didn’t know how ridiculously precise my mouse sensor was until I put it on this pad. I will not say my K/D has changed yet, but as I acclimatize to this new one, I’m looking forward to more head shots once my brain gets used to better surface. With all of the precision and speed I’m used to, with added comfort, control, and looks, this pad can’t be beat. 100% recommended!

    Large No Sliding Mousepad

This is a very good, and very large mousepad with plenty of space for a full-size keyboard and for the mouse with still plenty of room. Because it is so big, please check the specs and measure your desk area to make sure it will fit. It is also very ultra thin. There is a larger logo printed in gray on the corner. It is not too large, but it does stand out a lot. Having a large mousepad gives you plenty more space to move your mouse around, and that is true here. The quality feels very well made. It is stitched on the edges to prevent it from peeling. The backing is made of a rubber that doesn’t allow it to move at all, and it doesn’t move at all, at least not without picking up the whole thing. Prior to getting this, I had my keyboard with wrist rest and my mouse wrist rest directly on the desk. They kept sliding around and I couldn’t keep them in the same place. Now I have them on this new mouse pad and they don’t move at all. This alone makes the mouse pad worth it. This mouse pad is called balanced, between speed and accuracy. This is about right. It does take some amount of effort to move the mouse on it, and while it tracks in small increments, if you are using a big dpi, you might find that it skips a little, so it really is balanced. There are speed and accuracy versions available if you prefer that over this balanced version. The surface is a little rough so you will feel the surface when you slide your hand on it. This makes it a little itchy. This is a very high-quality mouse pad. My favorite part is the fact that it doesn’t slide around, and the keyboard and mouse wrist wrests don’t move at all when they are on it, unlike when they are directly on my desk. Before buying this, make sure it will fit on your desk. Also make sure you want a balanced mouse pad instead of a speed or accuracy mouse pad because that is definitely what you will get.

And now I can’t go back! This covers quite a bit of the surface of my desk, and it does genuinely seem to control my premium branded gaming mouse better than the generic discount store mousepad. Who woulda thought? It’s got a nice texture and is quite thick. It’s been used for several hours of Baldurs Gate III with no issues whatsoever. Because of its size, I’m not constantly picking up and repositioning my mouse. I’ve yet to “run out of pad”. Composition seems to be a very durable material, so it doesn’t look like it will come undone quickly like the afore-mentioned discount mouse pad. Because of its size, my keyboard is also on the mousepad and it provides enough traction that the keyboard doesn’t slip either. Overall I’m rather impressed by this product. I can definitely see how this could improve performance in competitive gaming. Pretty sure this would be a benefit for productivity as well. A true top quality product typical of Steel Series products. Comes packaged on a nice cardboard roll so it’s not going to have a kink in it. Definitely grab it!

    Great Multipurpose Mousepad

This is a fantastic mousepad that has more uses than just for computer gaming. I had a few ways in which I wanted to use this pad and it met all of my expectations. Construction of the mousepad is very nice with a neoprene under layer for non-slip use and quality stitched edges all the way around. The top surface is dense and doesn't snag or cause mouse sticking or skipping. I will say that out of the box, it had a pretty strong neoprene rubber smell but that went away after letting it sit out for about a day. Along with this, there was one edge that was all curled from packaging but it did eventually flatten out. This is a very large mousepad at almost 3 feet in length and almost 16 inches wide (35.43"Lx15.75"Wx0.14"H to be exact). It was almost too large for my work space but functioned just as expected. There is no lag in my mouse optics and offers a good glide. I'm not a professional gamer by any means, but for casual gaming, this control series of the pad is perfect. Where this size and surface type are also really great is TCG Gaming. I can now use this for more than just computer usage as it can easily fit all my cards while playing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great mousepad that has great construction and can offer itself to multiple uses.

One might think it would be difficult to differentiate between mousepads, but in my experience, that only means you haven’t used a quality product tailored specifically for your usage. To begin with you need a mousepad that fits your gaming or work space, and the QcK Performance Series is available in a L (490 x 420 mm) size and XL (900 x 400 mm) sizes that are both 3.5 mm thick to fit your space, and in 3 different Performance levels including Balance, Control and Speed. I have the Speed version which provides a very smooth surface to enhance responsiveness. The pad is a nylon blend with a neoprene foam base that is very well made, to the point where you barely notice the stitching on the edges. The bottom stays in place in on my somewhat scarred wooden desk, yet the top is smooth and fast and you can’t feel any of the imperfections on my desk surface. The care instructions are simple but as with all products you need to be careful not to damage the pad. I’ve always just used a lint roller to clean my pads, but per the instructions you can also use a fiber cloth and water for any dirty areas. The reaction times on the Speed versions are great, without going overboard and having to overcorrect options.

I’ve been using the SteelSeries QcK XL mouse pad for a few weeks now, and it’s easily one of the best gaming investments I’ve made. The surface texture offers excellent control — perfect for precise aiming in FPS games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. The size is massive, which means I never run out of space for mouse movement, even at low DPI. It’s also thick and comfortable, so it doubles as a nice wrist rest during long gaming or work sessions. The build quality feels premium, and it doesn’t slide around thanks to the rubber base. It may be on the pricier side at $49.99, but if you’re serious about performance and comfort, it’s absolutely worth it. Highly recommend it to both competitive gamers and casual users!

The SteelSeries - QcK Performance Gaming Mouse Pad XL – Speed edition is a quality made and slick mouse pad. At 400x900x3.5mm or 15.75x35.43 x0.14inches it’s big enough to cover your playing area for large movements and fit your keyboard or other devices on. This version is meant for speed. The material is well stitched on the edges, and thick enough to smooth out any minor bumps on your playing surface. The color looks good and evenly applied with the SteelSeries emblem in the lower right corner. The material is soft and pliable. This speed version has a slick surface. My mouse moved easier over it than a cloth pad. Tracking was accurate and there were no issues with using the mouse. You have plenty of room to move the mouse and react to gaming situations. For normal use, a mouse easily slides to where you want it to go. The mouse pad comes rolled up around a large diameter cardboard roll. So, it doesn’t remain in a circular form and unrolls ready to go. There was a manufacturing/ plastic smell to it, but it basically went away after a day. The mouse pad covers a large surface area and is slick for fast movements if that is your preference. It should work well for any mouse and play style though.

This mousepad is leather on the bottom so it doesn't slip on the desk and maintains grip. This for me helps to provide stability on the desk. The edges are soft. Sometimes my wrist can get tired, so it is nice to have a good resting place, for lengthy gaming. Balance is preferred if you're a graphic artist that also plays shooter games that don't require you to be up in your face. I do both graphic designing and can go from casual gaming to fast paced gaming. No matter what type of gaming you prefer, this is a great accessory to add. Without putting pressure gives speed, while adding some gives you more precision and control. The XL is the right size for both your mouse and to place the keyboard on it. Pros: Love the nonslip bottom. Soft Edges and Surface for movement. Love the XL size for small or big desk. Cons: It You Have A Very Small Compact Desk, may not be for you. However, I have two different desk setups one pretty large and another a tiny bit smaller. Be sure to check out the measurements before purchasing. Yes, I would recommend this product to a family and or friend. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to review this product.

The SteelSeries QCK performance balance gaming mouse pad is large and high-quality. Being one of the best mouse pads I have ever used, its large size (XL size 900x400mm) and clean glide are extremely useful for competitive games. Being the balance pad, its speed and control are both exceptional. Its 3.5 MM thick base is very comfortable and consistent, and regardless of the surface, its non-slip base allows for perfect stability. Its well-done, low-profile stitched edges offer durability for smooth, fray-free edges. The edges don't fray like most pads. The base is extra soft and non-slip, and the material delivers rock-solid stability. Allowing you to use this mouse pad for several years. Also, its XL size is big enough for you to have the space you need but not overly large to where it becomes an inconvenience. The surface is matte black and extremely easy to wipe clean. Overall, I am satisfied with this SteelSeries QCK gaming mouse pad. It provides high caliber, and it is a perfect blend of speed and control.

Top Tier - With Minor Caveats

SteelSeries QcK has consistently been one of the highest-rated and most highly praised mouse pad brands. QcK doesn't get enough attention because of some of the more boutique mouse pad brands that have hit the scene in recent years, so let's talk about what makes this pad great. The size is perfect. Anyone who does a reasonable amount of gaming and has a full sized keyboard (I use a unique 96% layout, personally) will have space for their mouse movements, and probably a bit of extra space to set down a wallet or set of keys. I have always preferred XL mouse pads because it's the sweet spot for lots of coverage and a sleek look, without taking over every single square inch of your desk. The material is... Hard to describe, but I'll do my best to explain. It's got a certain grit and drag to the naked hand. I think this would surprise your average mouse pad shopper - they would say "There's no way this is the 'speed' version", but it's because the material isn't made for your hands to glide across - it's made for the skates of your gaming mouse to glide across. It's an important difference and distinction, so hold tight while I explain why, and then you can demo the mouse pad at Best Buy. Your hands will feel a resistance and drag on this mouse pad, compared to a $15 mouse pad from an online retailer. SteelSeries has been clear about this - the mouse pad is made for performance, for the mouse, not necessarily the hand using the pad. So, in my competitive gaming sessions (I am not very good), I've had to adjust my flicks and the amount of force I apply to my mouse. It's a two-fold change - less drag on the mouse, and greater drag on my hand. I'm fine with the change, overall, it's just a feeling that I am still adjusting to. I am not unhappy with the feel of the mouse pad on my hands, it's just a change. The QcK Performance - Speed mouse pad completely delivers on its promise to give you speed without drag on your high quality gaming mouse. Ensure that your gaming mouse has a large amount of fresh, clean skate, and it will fly on this mouse pad. There is no lack of control on this mouse pad, just remember that the mouse pad itself is not helping you with fine movements by creating friction - without friction, your small movements will be larger and more dramatic than you may intend. This is where the balance between skate friction and hand friction on the mouse pad begin to shape your experience, and I think everyone will feel somewhat differently about whether having extra drag on your hand is a good or bad thing. My final word about this - or final caveat about this mouse pad - is that it takes a long time to fully unfold. If you have the time and ability, when you receive and unbox your mouse pad, put something heavy on top of it, or sandwich it between two heavy items, so that it lays completely flat. All mouse pads have a "resting" period where they begin to flatten, so even if it's taking a while, it's best to be patient. It does not affect the functionality of this mouse pad, but I do want everyone to be aware that it may take 5+ days to fully flatten otherwise. I recommend the mouse pad, and as with all items like this, there's a lot of personal preference involved. I encourage everyone to visit Best Buy and test out the QcK Performance - Speed to see if you enjoy the combined mouse/hand feel.

The Steelseries QCK speed mouse pad surface is smooth with little resistance so your mouse moves fast especially if you have a weighted gaming mouse. I was using a hard surface mouse pad and this QCK is nearly as fast. On a plus side for what I lose in speed I gain in control. The difference is the neoprene pad does give ever so slightly when pressed and I believe this gives me the feeling of being in better control than the hard surface pad. It’s not overly thick and it is quite dense which makes it durable however if you have your monitor stand or use a heavy keyboard they will leave indents on the mouse pad. The back of the mouse pad is grippy so the mouse pad won’t move when gaming. Overall this is much nicer than the generic neoprene mouse pads out there and it definitely is a step up when it comes to quality construction. Like most neoprene surfaces, it picks up dust and after a week end of gaming it is showing some lighter areas where the fore arms rested on the surface. If you are into RGB there are no options with this style mouse pad. Before picking this up make sure you have the space for it because its XL as in nearly 3 ft long and 16 in deep.
