PAUL DOESN'T SHOW SIGNS OF AGING OR RETURNING TO SET PATTERNS FROM HIS PAST - BUT HAS A FRESH TAKE ON HOW HE SEES THE WORLD AROUND HIM - TRUE TO HIS ROOTS.

This album is addictive. Simon's intricate, satirical, and acerbic lyrics demand repeated listenings while the adventurous arrangements featuring unusual instrumentation also reward headphone listening. "Wristband" begins with a humorous tale about accidentally being locked out of a club before performing but morphs into a larger exploration of racial and social unrest. The best songs come toward the end: "The Riverbank" details the loss of a son who served in the armed forces and the family and the town's reaction to the loss; "Cool Papa Bell" features some of the unexpected instrumentation and is perhaps the catchiest song, though it does contain explicit language; and "Proof of Love" is a subtle, beautiful musing that is reminiscent of The Rhythm of the Saints' best songs. While not up to that masterwork or Graceland, this album proudly stands among Simon's best work.

Another Creative Paul Simon Album

I have been a fan of Paul Simon since his beginning with Garfunkel. As a musician, one of my favorite things is how he likes to explore and use rhythm patterns, He moved rhythm explorations to a new level with Graceland, one of his best ever. Then I found Stranger to be another wonder example of his use of rhythm. Plus he always has great musicians to work with him, excellent. What a fun album!

I love it when an artist who has been around for as long as Paul Simon doesn't reinvent the wheel, but incorporates a new sound that makes you want to listen to every track. Paul Simon does this with this album. There are some definite nods to his most well-known album "Graceland", but when he starts singing about getting locked out of his own concert you have to admire his songcraft. A must-buy!

Paul Simon, Humorist

Okay, so Paul Simon's "Stranger to Stranger" isn't up there with his masterpieces (you should already know those). It's still a fun, challenging, and ridiculously catchy pop album full of experimentation and wit; the proof is audible in singles "Wristband" and "Cool Pappa Bell". Not an ideal introduction into his work though mandatory listening for any fan.

Stranger to Stranger is, in my opinion, is Paul Simon's best release since The Rhythm of the Saints! The deluxe version has 16 songs with no filler! The songs sound fresh and many have wonderfully complex rhythms. Wristband is a gas and I like the live bonus track version even better. If you like Paul Simon, you'll love this collection of songs!

Amazing that Simon is now in his 70s but still making incredible music. This ranks with Graceland and his last effort, So Beautiful or So What, as one of his best, an eclectic mix of unusual sounds, great stories and Simon's still soaring vocals. This may end up being my Album of the Year.

Can it be whispers of mortality I hear giving Paul Simon his best batch of songs, and the most gravitas he's brought to performance in a long time. Simon in superb form. The Deluxe with 5 extra tracks is worth the extra price of admission

In my opinion, this ranks with Simon's best solo material. As he so often does, he experiments with new rhythms and sonic soundscapes to fantastic effect. His lyrical wit is also in full force on this release. Highly recommended!

Well bottom , quick line is this: If you love Paul's production over the past 25 years, let alone his songwriting, then you'll get pleasure. May not be my favorite release by him, after 5 listens, but it's worthy no matter what.

Another great Paul Simon album. Given his continued productivity and creativity, I doubt that he will stick with his expressed intention to retire: "The future ain't what it used to be"

Bought this for my wife's birthday the evening I heard it at a friend's. Was easy -- bought it on line for pick-up the next morning on her birthday. Awesome Paul Simon! Love the cuts.

Paul Simon continues to improve his track record with another brilliant album. The sound may be a bit different but it's still unmistakably Paul Simon.

I read that this would be the last Paul Simon CD. I thought that it was OK but not worth the hype it got in all the reviews.
