This is a hugely popular series. They did a great job remastering everything. I don't have a home theater set up so I can't say anything about the sound quality/improvements over the previously released versions. I did own the previous boxed set though and compared the video improvements. Trust me, it's worth picking up especially at this price. There isn't a misty look anymore, the animation is very clear. The colors are dark and vibrant, very noticeable if you've seen the previous versions. The packaging is great, embossed cardboard shell looks and feels sleek and houses the DVDs nicely. As far as the storyline goes, it is awesome. There is a ton of symbolism both blatantly obvious as well as very subliminal. I'm not a huge fan of mecha anime but I love this series because it balances enough of the mechs while also concentrating a lot on the psychological intricacies of the children as they are experiencing everything (which in my opinion is where this series shines). There are a lot of directors cut scenes that have been added to this version as well which flourish the series' progression. The only thing negative I have to say about this boxed set is that it's not complete, granted this is how the original series/boxed set had been presented....but by the look and feel of this product (and the fact that everything has been remastered) it should also offer the final DVDs to deliver a complete experience for the fans who no doubt will buy this again. There are two other titles "Death and Rebirth" and "The End of Evangelion" which show you what is going on outside of the heads of the children and reveals a more true ending. This is a pretty big negative to me and is why I give this product a 4 star review, the story itself surpasses 5 stars in my opinion but the lack of completion for a remastered item leaves two DVD cases to be left outside the box and still looks awkward next to my other boxed sets. But yes, I do recommend it, any anime fan should not go without.

Evangelion is constantly referred to as the best or one of the best anime's of all time, and tho it is great, it is certainly not the best anime of all time. The characters fit in perfectly with the story line, and the voice actors do a pretty good job in becoming their roles. The remastered audio and video sure make things a lot more visually pleasant. The main concept in this anime, as you can conclude from the title, is the end of the world. If you are a fan of the apocalyptic or just plain giant living organisms that resemble mecha duking it out in a futuristic tokyo; then this anime is definitely for you. If you are not the drama type, or not an enthusiast of complex storylines; then you will more than likely not enjoy this work of art. On a side note, this box set is not entirely complete; it contains the t.v aired 26 episodes, but it does not contain the final two episodes that truly explain (in third person) what occurs in the end of evangelion. :D

this is one awesome box set , not only are the episodes great but the box itself is hard and really cool looking unlike those folding display boxes that usually fall apart and require an arm length of 10 feet to get to the last disc take it from me, if theres any box set worth watching , its THIS one , i would choose this anime series over eating and breathing words like best anime may raise your expectations, but you will not be disappointed .just keep in mind this is not your ordinary show like NARUTO and BLEACH . Neon Genesis Evangelion will change the way you look at life

This is one of the best anime's i've watched! Awesome story, cool characters (my fave is rei!), and beautiful animation! I would recomend this anime to whoever loves the tech type anime's (and nudity lol)

There isn't much to say about Evangelion except that it is easily one of the best anime series ever. The great thing about this box set is the enhanced animation. Try watching the old edition and then the same scene from the Platinum edition and you will be amazed.

This is a very good series but i don't consider this to be the best anime every created like what most people say. The characters are very unique and their character developments are great.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the best anime's in the world! In my opinion, it is the second best anime, right next to Cowboy Bebop. Every single episode will have you guessing what's going to happen next and won't be able to stop watching!

The the reason why I say this is good not great is this: I've seen better. I could name off a list of titles that can easily beat it. One of them is Gundam Wing but the one thing I do like about this the characters and the Mecha.
