    Don't buy this

I asked for a gorilla tripod for Christmas, but it was not available at best buy. So my kids got me this one. Looks the same but that is where the similarity ends. This would not support even a small digital camera, much less an SLR. The legs snapped apart when trying to support a camera by wrapping it around a pole or tree. I tried it as basic as I could but setting it on a table as a true tripod and it just squatted to the table. Stability was no where to be found (fundamental for taking photos). This is a knock off in the worst way. I returned it and Best buy treated me right by refunding my kids cost. I have subsequently purchased the Joby Gorilla (the real deal) and was completely satisfied with it. Bottom line this is junk.

    Not for SLRS!!

Regardless of what the package says, this tripod is not suitable for use with an SLR camera! I was playing around with it, moving the legs, and one of the legs just popped off (this is right out of the package). The rubber on the legs does not grip well at all, the legs do not hold the shapes you try to mold it into, and the top pivot cannot support the weight of a SLR camera without falling over. I have a Sony Alpha, and I would not trust this thing with my camera! It might be ok with a point and shoot, but definitely not with any type of camera that has any weight to it.

If you love your camera, don't buy this product. Get the Joby gorilapodSLR instead. A segment fell apart as soon as I took it out of the box. Luckily, I was able to put it back together, but then other joints started to come off as I posed it in different ways. It's not sturdy enough to hold a SLR camera in any decent position. The gray stripes on the joints have a terrible grip. It costs the same as the original Joby gorilapodSLR, which is in fact sturdy, grippy and reliable. I returned it at Best Buy then I bought the Joby one with the money I got back.

    Poor choice for SLR cameras

The product packaging depicted the tripod with a Nikon SLR, but with my Olympus (a little more than half the weight of the Nikon!), the joints slip. This would would great for even large point and shoot cameras, but even the smallest SLR's are too heavy.
